What is your favorite doll size and why - Part 2

Mar 1, 2019

    1. I thought about it for a while and I really can't decide! There are such specific reasons I love each type.

The 1/3-80cm are weighty which has a really nice feeling. They don't feel fragile so I'm more confident 'manhandling' them. It's also my preferred size to sew for. I have ulnar nerve compression that makes my hand shake and it's less fiddly to work on larger size pieces. Plus because of the scale they can accommodate better quality embellishments.

1/4 has such a charm to them. I love that the majority of them a more childlike. Personally I'm not into the ecchi looking dolls of any size but especially the 45cm ones. There's just something endearing about the majority of 1/4 size dolls. I can see why the DearSD are popular. They're also significantly easier to cart around for photos/meets.

1/6 okay so I said I don't have favorites but these might actually be my favorite. I like to keep them at my desk when working and move them around the house. Plus, it's easy to find really cheap clothing for them that I can deconstruct to draft patterns to make better things in my style.

    2. honestly 1/4, especially minifees are easy to find or make clothes for. plenty of patterns. its not so tiny to be annoying like 1/6 and it isnt so big to have stability issues like 1/3rds taking stage dives off stands.

    3. My favorite doll size is either 1/3 or 1/4. I usually gravitate towards the 1/3 dolls in terms of design, so most of the dolls I’ve purchased have been 1/3 size. I like how 1/4 dolls aren’t too small but don’t take up as much space as the 1/3 or bigger dolls. Finding a place to display them is easier and they’re easier to balance.

    4. I have dolls from 14 cm to 68 cm.. But i can se that I gravitate most toward to my 1/4 dolls. they are not too small and not too big to pose, dress and sew for. But are easer to store or display and are not as heavy as my two big boys. i have more dolls in the smaller size, but I handle my 1/4 doll the most.

    5. I’m a tiny doll girl through and through, my favorite thing is posing them with dollhouse miniatures I’ve collected over the years. Although like others have said, it can be hard to find wigs and clothing for the little guys, there are very few wig makers that make custom ones that small.

    6. i love 1/4 the most, just everything about them lol. i love the way clothes look in that scale, i love that sculpts are more adult than 1/6 while not fully Mature like in 1/3 scale, and i adore the range of sculpt diversity! i really only collect 1/4 anymore, not opposed to a few 1/6 dolls here or there but the weight of a 1/4 and the fact that most of them can still be held in one of my hands (scrunched up of course) just puts me in doll heaven

    7. Personally the 1/6 scale mature have my heart. They are portable and well articulated with a plethora of clothing options given their size. They are also more affordable and won’t break the bank offering great versatility.

    8. 1/3 because I can't stop hugging my dolls!!! I could hug 1/4 too I guess but it's just not the same.

    9. I really like my 1/3 dolls. Not sure why they’re my favorite. I’ve been trying g to get into 1/4 too. I have dolls of all sizes but my heart is with 1/3.

    10. :D That's such a great picture!! I love your 1:1 scale doll. Your whole crew is very cool!!

My biggest boy is a Resinsoul Yi, who is a relatively slim 72 cm. My smallest dolls are two Dreamhigh Studio Pocca babies, who are 5 cm each.

I've always wanted a micro BJD and a 90 cm boy - not sure I still want the big boy, though, I wouldn't know where to put him...

    14. After two girls in that range I think I've settled into the larger end of 1/3, so 63-70cm. I love the weight and presence and despite my doubts I've found that they can pose on just tension. I still think the sweet spot and ideal doll size is SD, though.
