What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. I like MSD. The SD just seem to large for me. I do want a couple of tinies too though.

    2. I like adult dolls - ones that do NOT look like teenagers. I have a few teens & some kids & babies in my character list of course, but most of the dolls I plan on getting are shelling grown-up characters. And 70 cm dolls are the only ones I can find that actually have men that look like they might be in their 30s! So that makes it a no-brainer for me. 70cm men (w/a few 65 cm ones), 60+ cm women, regular SD teens, MSD kids & preteens, tiny kids & babies!
It IS wonderful to sew for EIDs, I must say :d

    3. Ive always felt that dolls that are a bit scary, well until I found bjds. Some of them do look a bit creepy I must admit but not in the same scary way as other dolls do n_n

...but, big dolls are a no no for me and MSDs are also a bit big for me. I have one around 40cm doll but unlike my other two tinies I mainly see her as a decoration/ornament sort of. Just sitting on my shelf looking pretty, she's good at it though ;D

My real love is for the tinies, especially the 15-16cm size as they sort of reminds me of persocoms from Chobits. I also like them becouse theyre hand-size-friendly so to say.

I think my love for small things that are still just like the bigger versions comes from my love for compact living. Ive always been fascinated by getting as much as possible to fit in the smalles places, yet not being crowded, just clever solutions -shrugh- :3

    4. MSD. So long as you don't hold them up to bigger dolls they can still look very adult. They can also look like teens too. I think they are pretty versatile. They are big enough to do stuff with, but small enough to not take up too much space and are easier to transport/make carrying cases. Also, they are not as expensive as the bigger dolls. Their accessories seem less expensive too.

    5. I have a fondness for YO-SD sized dolls simply because they're easily to handle/take with you should you want to. I do plan on getting my first 70CM soon though so perhaps my opinion will change, who knows!

    6. I only love MSD and Tiny. MSD and Tiny doll is easy to make them look cute and cool~ :D

    7. I really love the 60-70cm range. I think 65cm is absolutely perfect. I feel that the size does distance them from other kinds of dolls at that point. I love how when they're on display, they really make a statement. Like I many others have stated, it's possible to add more subtle detail to their clothing and such. As a seamstress, that's particularly important to me. Personally, I like that they're bulky and pricey- keeps me from bringing home too many!

    8. I really like all the different doll sizes, but because I have a 62cm doll right now I think I'm going to stick with 60 to 70cm dolls so the difference won't go to a 'OMG A DWARF' level. I do love the idea of having a doll I can carry in my palm tho, so I might just splurge and get myself one someday ;)

    9. I love 70cm dolls, just because they're almost huggable. :D
They feel nice in my hands.

    10. My favorite size would be 60cm or 70cm, I like the bigger dolls!

    11. MSD's for sure. They fit my budget and they can be both cute and mature looking, also they take less space. :)

    12. So I sold the 70 DOT Luke...so under 70cm is my favorite size. That, and for some reason, I love purchasing Pukifee size clothes!

    13. I'd have to say that I have two favorite sizes- SD and MSD. Right now I only have MSDs, but I'm saving for an SD and have been to a few doll meets where I've seen them and how large they really are. For MSDs, I love the wide variety of accessories I can find for them at decent prices, and they're very portable for cons and meets. For SDs, I really like the height and heft of a larger doll because it seems like "more for the money," so to speak.

    14. I've easily become a 60cm fan, I'm not really sure how or when it happened but I want something that I feel is more substantial. I never really got much to be proud of or happy for, so maybe I want bigger because I feel I deserve one of the higher levels. Or maybe I've just seen too many good looking 60cm dolls and I keep wondering why the 44cm ones look a little like kids. Not that I don't like them, a lot of them don't and for the ones that do I'm sure it's intentional. But I'm an adult, and I want adult looking things, though I find it silly that my favorite doll is an MSD.

    15. I gotta say that I love a 65 - 70cm doll best. I love the weight of one in my arms! I love the way they photograph. I also like the fact that you don't have to go blind to button an outfit the way you do for a YOSD. :P

    16. Either yosd or msd. Msd's are nice because don't take up much space. Yosds are just so cute and easy to carry.

    17. For my OC's there is only one way to go: SD13. However, I like different sizes for different reasons. I was planning to only buy SD for a while, but now my two incoming dolls are both MSD :doh

For me, SD13 are adults, MSD are teens and YoSD are children and I love those sizes equally when I don't take OC's into consideration. Smaller dolls can of course be babies, but with the ones I've owned it somehow didn't work out. The smallest ones just feel less realistic and it's more difficult to find detailed clothing and shoes and stuff. Bigger than 62-ish cm will just look weird with my current guys, though I have been eyeing a few.

    18. Adult SD 1/3 is just the right size for me..easy to make clothes for them.. :D although they are more expensive I think it is worth it.. :)

    19. MSD are my favorite because I think can be mature or younger but I love SD and tiny too  I love them all.

    20. I'm comfortable with sizes ranging approximately from 25cm-50cm. If I could, I wish there would be a lot of dolls around the 35cm or 50-55cm range! But I think I prefer my dolls a bit on the bigger/MSD end of the scale than tiny. Somehow, despite that, my doll plans are over half-comprised of tinies OTZ .

Dolls that get to the size of pukis or the like are too small for me-they don't seem much fun because the clothes and shoes available, and how easily loseable they could be, and I just wouldn't feel like I'm getting my money's worth? Well, especially since I want to keep my collection small, I want the dolls I do have to be a bit more substantial.

But on the other hand, the idea of getting such a big doll is intimidating--I wouldn't want to carry one around, bring it with me, play with it--and it wouldn't be easy to 'shelf' or store/sit it anywhere. That includes their stuff, which would be equally bigger! And not to mention how much more expensive they are overall.

It seems that minis might be a bit better for poseability than large dolls too, because they're less heavy and clunky. I feel like they're 'just right', and they could maybe go a bit bigger, but 60cm is 'just about too big'. Though, since I'm a fan of planning around 'sets', I also wouldn't mind mature dolls around 33cm! That's one of the biggest issues--that despite loving the size, most mini dolls and smaller are meant to be younger, often more anime-style, and usually have bobble-headedness.
