What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. SD size, because I prefer dolls that look like adults, and the smaller sizes are usually younger looking.

    2. My favorite size has quickly become SD 60-70cm. I just think they're big and cuddly, not to mention easiest for a beginner sewer (I can't even call myself a seamstress yet, I'm that much of a noob) to learn to sew for. Just making my Feeple60 clothes was difficult, I can't even imagine the tinies. I wouldn't want to handle anything bigger than 70cm, because I feel (personally) that it's too big a doll when it's bigger than a tiny human being.

    3. I'm a MSD fan. Anything bigger is just too big!! And anything too small is just too small for me!!!
      MSD suits me perfectly!

    4. I've only had SD and LTF. However my SD boy who is 65cm I've come to find is too big for me.
I love my LTF's they're so tiny and have so many possibilities.
However once I get an MSD I think that would be my fave size.
I have an SD girl who is about 54cm and I love her size. MSD's are close enough and I think I'd really like their size the most. C:

    5. I like small ones, like tiny Limhwa To You. MSD is possible, but I want them to be adult looking. And even less then |To You, like Puky a nd Brownie dolls. They are the cutest and SD is huge and requires so much space in the room. I just like everything small.

    6. I used to buy the really big dolls, the 70+cm ones, for their mature sculpts. But good grief, they're a handful and very difficult to pose. I have a couple 60-65cms and they are just wonderful. They feel so tiny compared to my giant dolls, and they're easier to buy clothes for and to pose, while still having a mature look to their bodies.

    7. My favourite size so far is MSD, I think it's a good size. Not too big, and not too small, or "lagom" as we say here in Sweden  I don't think I want an SD-sized, but you never know what the future will bring. They do feel a bit too big for me tho. But I'm thinking about getting some smaller sizes too, like yo-sd and similar, as a little sister for my current one (Resinsoul Mei). If I like that size, I'll probably get some more - I want a little doll family! :)

    8. I had a phase of preferring tinies as they're so CUTE - but the novelty wore off - every time I walked in the room my eyes automatically were drawn to my single SD size girl (in my avatar) I tried MSD size but they barely seemed any bigger than YOSD, and still very young looking - So my favourite is SD size as there's no mistaking them for toys, and they just naturally attract my eye - they are unmissable and I never get tired of looking at them - they seem more companionable too, due their size - more like pets, they demand more attention than the smaller dolls I have. I admit they are a pain to cart around and pose though, compared to the tinies!

    9. A mix between SD and MSD.
SDs because they are adults (or young adults), but still have a youthful appearance and seem to be around the age of a lot of my characters which I base the dolls off of. I also find that they're that perfect in between of not too big, not too small.
MSDs because their size is just... I guess adorable is the word? When the first MSD came into my household, I had NO idea she would be as tiny as she was, especially since all I had to compare her to were SDs. And I like that they still have the lean, more adult bodies compared to smaller sizes that seem to be more on the chibi side.

    10. YoSD! Perfect for a pocket size companion sort of thing. If I wanted a 18" girl I would buy an AG doll or something. qq: I just think it is so cool that such a tiny doll can have such amazing posing, such a intricate faceup.

    11. I prefer the MSD size. They are not too small but at the same time not so big that they are too hard to handle.

    12. My favourite size is SD/1/3, which is the only size of dolls I have now ^^. I think they are just big enough to have a presence, yet is not too big so they can still go places :). There's also a ton of clothing choices for this size which is definitely a plus. However, recently I've been really wanting a tiny! They are so cute and you can take them anywhere in your pocket or something :fangirl:

    13. For me it's the bigger the better or the smaller the better. So I'm in love with the Lusion and Trinity Dolls and I like the really tiny ones (pukis I think?). I kinda feel like any size in between doesn't really give the BJD's that extra special quality.

    14. My favorite size has jumped around a bit through the years. I am fond of the 60cm Delf size. The nYID size is just too big. And I still adore the Pipos PI size, which is a YoSD size. I have a Jr. PI which is PKF size, and they are almost the cutest ones ever. They are just trickier to sew for, so I can't say they are my overall favorite size. So I would say the 60cm and YoSD sizes are equally my favorites.

    15. When I first started the hobby back in high school, I would've sworn it was MSD and anything bigger was just too big. Even though I went to meets and got along fine with the bigger dolls.

It literally changed over-night for god-knows what reasons. I was seriously just sitting there with an MSD in my cart, ready to check out and pay, when I suddenly had a panicky feeling all "no, no, she's going to be too small!" and the next day I purchased another doll (nYID) that had just come out that night instead. o.O"

I ended up selling the big girl (I loved her, but something just wasn't clicking and she sat face-up-less for over a year), but I am still undeniably hooked on the SD's, still plotting to get one when I find the perfect one. :D

I did draw an upper limit to the SD-size though, for a number of reasons... The first is that I tried to play with my friend's Soom Idealian and I just couldn't handle him. I needed both of my scrawny T-rex arms just to hold the boy up - forget trying to pose him. I needed a third arm. Of course, that's going to be fixed when I start working out again. But the other problem is I like tall, mature, imposing ladies and there really aren't any past 65-68 cm. So I can't even get boys over 65 cm anyways, because I need them the same height or shorter than some of my future ladies, who need to look big and tough next to the gents (not all of them, of course. I like variation. But some are definitely from the you-don't-want-mess-with-me-son category and I want to see that respected).

And I have a super weak spot for tinies because I like everything cute, but... they're not really my favourite size. I like them 'cause they're cute and tiny, but it's the SD's that really make my little heart go pitter-patter.

    16. My favorite is between MSD and SD depend on the condition. Although Yo-SD is perfect for travel, I find it too small for my liking and I have hard time to make child personality.
Although I'm shocked with how big SD when first time I received it, I find it as quite perfect size for me. I consider to buy MSD for travel wise but I'm going to enjoy my SD girl first :)

    17. MSD. I have been an MSD collector from the start... Until a few days ago and then I bought my first SD. However I still have eight MSDs to one SD. I love the versatility of MSDs. Mine all happen to be rather teenage, early twenties looking, versus the young children looking MSDs many have mentioned. I think if painted and styled just so MSDs can look just as mature as SDs. They are just smaller, and in my opinion easier to carry around.

    18. I mostly have tinies, easy to carry and cute, and they do not have to be children...in fact, none of mine are. They are not child proportioned, or child shaped, so are not children to me.
Despite that, my favourite size though is the mini size. Mature dolls, so they do not get mistaken for being children but are actually possible for me to carry ^^; I do adore 60cm sculpts, but I do know my limits - I cannot CARRY the things! I do not get any immature bodied minis, some have been hybridised because of this.

    19. I like the tinies because they are easier to mange for me. Also my dolls are all children so the proportions are more suitable. From the pictures I've seen the bigger dolls don't seem to pose as naturally as the tinies, but maybe that's just me. I love many of the bigger sculpts and I would like to owe one but I'm afraid to buy them, in case the size doesn't work for me. It's not like I can just throw a 90cm doll in a drawer to get it out of the way :D

    20. I'm totally in love with 65cm-70cm dolls. I can appreciate smaller dolls (I own Rosettes, who are roughly MSD-sized, and some Teenie Gems who are tiny-sized), but my true love will always be Super Gems. For me, there's just something special about dolls so large - every other doll I ever encountered was so much smaller. The larger size really sets BJDs apart from other dolls, in my opinion.
