What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. I like anything from 65-70cm, as I will be photographing they just seem easier to handle etc

    2. I leave hobby years ago, now I return. First I love SD sizes but now I prefer Unoa and Yo-SD sizes!

    3. SDs, definitely. Both because their sculpts appeal to my sense of aesthetics and because I'm reasonably certain that I'd feel like a fumbling giant when attempting to dress or work for or with the smaller dolls.

    4. Right now, I'm thinking I enjoy YOSD & tinys best for myself.
Love easy to carry dolls, and it's fun having something so little to dote on. Don't think I'd ever go bigger than a MSD, my Souldoll Vito is already too big!! Thinking now, it's probably the idea of being able to have them in my bags and pockets that I'm attracted to most. :)

    5. SD--65cm+! I love the size, and they feel right to pick up and move around. I'm not too terribly fond of the smaller dolls because of this.

    6. MSDs are the most convenient to carry and change clothes for me, but the 70cm ones are still my favorite ones.

    7. Evening Angels,

I have been in this hobby for many years. I admire all the dolls, creations and posts. December of last year I took my cash and threw it at two dolls.

One being April Story junior boy, to see if his size would scare me. It did the opposite. He arrived and began my first ever ball jointed doll. I have fallen in love with him, so much!

Have people got April Story dolls? do you find it easier to work with the larger dolls?

    8. When I first saw bjd many years ago, I thought, wow they are so cool, but so expensive! I better not get interested in those!

But sure enough a few years later I became more aware of what bjd were, and looked into many companies to choose my first. I was bit intimidated, and decided to get 45 cm doll. I felt a big doll would be too much (and of course more expensive.)

After owning two 45 cm dolls for a couple years, I decided I wanted a 60cm doll. I was partially spurred by the fact that it seemed all the cool clothes were only for 60+. At the time it was true, because slim MSD dolls were not popular nor offered by many companies.

When I finally got a 1/3 doll I was like, omg he is so awesome! lol my 1/4 scale dolls look so tiny now! Now I love 60cm. I don't have April Story, but I didn't think I would enjoy handling a large doll until I actually held one in real life (mine.)

I don't know if it is easier having 1/3 or 1/4, they have advantages to each size. For me it is mostly an issue of finding props and furniture. Chairs and beds for 18 inch baby dolls fit 1/4, but the props and food fit 1/3 lol.

    9. When I first got interested in the hobby, I only wanted MSDs... I never wanted anything above that, it seemed too big to me.
That changed this year when I bought a 66-68cm Doll Chateau Stacy. She's my absolute favourite doll at the moment. :D
Now I'm even considering an 80cm or 90cm doll!

    10. I started out with the 1/6 Obitsus before moving to 1/3 BJDs. What attracted me most about some of them is their close-to-anatomically correct proportions and semi-realistic faces (talking about companies like Iplehouse, Impldoll, and Granado here). I also thought it would be nice for the doll to double as an artist's model, so I was able to narrow down my options quickly. I told myself I'd only content myself with one, but within two years I already have two. XD

    11. My first doll was a 58cm girl and I fell in love, a few dolls later I got a 45cm and although I love him there's just something about the bigger dolls that catch my attention. It's also easier making clothes and making them look more realistic for bigger dolls. Just recently I ordered a 73cm boy and I can't wait for him to come home!

    12. Yes! Almost all my love are large dolls, simply can't resist :XD:

    13. I prefer SDs and MSDs. I think the 70cm for me is too big and heavy, but I'm not totally against buying one. SD and MSD are just right for me, and I'm scared of getting tinies because they might get lost. I tend to lose small things easily so don't entrust your minifees and etc. to me.
Well my doll is 65cm in total. He's too big to miss and to be left somewhere and get lost. So yes, bigger dolls is better for me.:)

    14. I love the YOSDs and also really like MSDs. I really enjoy making clothes for the dolls and it is very satisfying coming up with such tiny designs! I adore the cuteness factor of the tinies and it is also easier to create rooms for them when you have limited space!

    15. SD hands down. I own one MSD but I would never get another. The SD size is so big and showy, I love the look.

    16. I like MSD dolls the best because they are easier to bring to meet-ups and stuff and they take up less room. Also my first one was an MSD so it's what I got used to making things for. I would never get anything larger then an SD personally as I just can't handle that much doll xD

    17. I really like MSDs, they are just the right size, to me. They are easy to carry, don't take up much space, and even though they are small compared to other doll sizes, they can still have a nice amount of detail.

    18. 60-62cm range. Over that starts getting too big for convenience. Sculpts and clothing in this range tend to be closest to what I'm looking for, though there seems to have been a huge shift away from the size in the eight years or so I was away from the hobby and most companies seem to be doing 65-70cm. Sigh.

MSD is more convenient to carry/dress/etc, but I'm into mature sculpts and male dolls, and most MSD clothing is for girls or little boys.

    19. From the beginning, I´ve been interested in 70 cm dolls. I like mature and semi-realistic scults. And i love how they look in the pictures.
Personally, i don´t like smaller ones, i see them too childish.

    20. Initially I really loved SD dolls because of their mature sculpts, but after finally buying one I realized they were way too big for me. Now I've found my home with MSDs and I'll probably never buy another SD again, even though there are some that are SERIOUSLY beautiful. The size is definitely too much for me, though.
