What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. I prefer the bigger dolls, 60cm+, since they dont really seem to make adult dolls in smaller sizes, mostly just kid and teen looking dolls. Not my personal aesthetic but everyone's different. I still love to see what people do with their smaller dolls, some of them are pretty cute!

    2. Aw, thank you! :3

    3. That is so true. I don't have a doll, but all for now, I plan on getting a little monica elena. At first, I really wanted to get a male, a male that looks like an adult, but msd size. But, they don't seem to really have any. :(

    4. I have three 70cm guys whom I just love to bits, and four YoSD girls that I'm also nuts about. I either have to have tall, elegant bishounen or little tiny sugar sprites! My collection runs to extremes, you could say.

    5. Yes! I have the same feeling, it's been a struggle. Sometimes I find the perfect head but it only fits smaller teen bodies, such sad moments.

    6. I couldn't agree more. I personally have no affinity for the infant style dolls. The bigger the better in my opinion. Although, when it comes to the fantasy dolls, I'm willing to take just about any size if the character meets my tastes.

    7. Same

    8. I'd have to say I prefer the bigger dolls, like SD sized. I like their weight and how sturdy they feel. But I also have two YoSD sized dolls that I like very much because they are easier to handle and I know they would be easier to carry around should I take them out.

    9. Being small weakling, I find SD and above sized dolls just too big, heavy and tiring to do much with. I also find they (and their boxes) take up a lot of room and the larger dolls really push up the costs . It's shame as most of the sculpts I like are always on the the SD+ sizes and I struggle to find ones I like in the MSD range. Though maybe it's a good thing so I don't end up with too many dolls! XD
I'm trying out an Iplehouse FID and I have to say i'm finding the 50cm size is a bit more manageable, I think that's the largest size I find comfortable. I'm another person would would like more mature MSD sized sculpts as a lots of my characters i'd like to shell are young adult and older :)

    10. I've found that MSD sized dolls are perfect for me! I've had an SD sized doll and I just found her to be a little too big and cumbersome...

    11. I mostly like SDs. I just like their sculpts and proportions. I don't find my boy too hard to handle, but he does take up a good bit of room. I did just order a tiny though. It will be nice to had a doll I can take almost anywhere.

    12. hehe i don't own any bjd's myself either yet.
but yeha i'm not sure. i think my max would be around 40~45cm for me. 60cm would be too big for me!;_; but who knows that could always change in the future lol
i like small dolls too though! not a bjd but i think 2 of my dolls would be maybe a 1/6 or 1/7? idk lol but i like those! (they're about the same height as a barbie doll i'd say?)

    13. For me the weight of the resin is important. I like the Dollstown 18 girl and their elf bodies. I plan to try their Girl 17 next. I have high hopes for the 17 because the 18 is really big and their 13 girl feels too small for me. I'm thinking the 17 may become my new favorite once I get my hands on one.

    14. 50cm would be my max size. I prefer MSD's, YoSD's and Tinies. Those are just the sizes I like since they fit my space situation for them. I love all the tiny props I can set up for my tinies, I love how my Yo-SD girls can fit playline doll clothes sometimes and props too. My MSD's get spoiled rotten with anything that was originally deemed too big for playline doll sizes. They're a lot of fun. Honestly when I got my boy for the first time I wasn't sure what to do with him as far as space went. He mostly sat on my book shelf when I wasn't playing with him... Though there was a few times where I fell asleep holding him by accident. The only thing I have a hard time with my MSD's is finding good wig sizes. Which stopped being a problem around the third one's arrival.

    15. I wouldn't say I have a favorite size, but I do have mostly MSDs right now. I have all sizes on my wishlist and I want to have all sizes eventually (except maybe teeny tinies), but right now MSDs just work best for me. They feel substantial enough at a decent price, so I feel like I'm getting a good deal for my money. (Like...MSDs are generally more affordable than SDs, but a lot of YoSDs seem a little overpriced to me for the size.) So right now I have three full MSDs (two that I actively do stuff with), an MSD head that shares with one if my other MSDs, and an SD head that will get a body eventually.

I should look at my wishlist and count how many SDs verses MSDs I have on there. (I really just need to organize my wishlist...)

    16. My BJD world is SD-sized, and the vast majority of my dolls are teens and adults between 58cm and 70cm. I prefer it because the dolls have a wonderful presence, and they're large enough to have the detail I want.

When I first started buying BJDs in 2005, I considered MSD-size, but most dolls around that size at that time were child dolls. There wasn't the selection of "mature minis" like there is today. I much preferred the sculpts in the 60cm range.

SD size and taller ARE really big! I feel like I have too many, and they take up a lot of space, but I'm too attached to most of them to sell them now.

    17. Yosd! Currently all my girls are 1/6 cos i find it easier to bring around and hide, lol. 1 size oso mean my girls all sharing same clothes, hair and shoes

    18. For me, the ideal is Yo-SD and less though I have two and a half MSDs (one of them being 52cm-tall) but I don't play with them as much as I do with the smaller ones.
They are perfect for travelling and taking them to many places is really important for me, and they can be easily stored (my house is not really big).
And of course they are really cute!

    19. I prefer big dolls in general, but the mid-sized (60-65cm) 1/3-scale sculpts are my favorites. They're easier to sew for than small dolls, they scale well to the outdoor settings I prefer for photography and they're big enough to have a definite physical "presence" without being as heavy and hard to handle as the 70cm+ *Really* Big Dolls.

That said, I have everything from a 6cm Dream High micro to a 75cm SpiritDoll Herculean guy and a 110cm DZ Sawarieda over here, and it's been great fun actually having dolls in a variety of different sizes to tinker with... Sometimes you just want to stash a Tiny in your bag for a quick trip to the park, or to pop a Micro in your pocket as a travelling companion. You can't do that with one of the big guys.

    20. My favourites are YoSDs! I have the most of them, with two owned and another two planned. I was lucky enough that my best friend started collecting before I did so I could handle all of his sizes first, to decide what I liked most. I also have a MSD, and a 10cm anthro, though. And I'm planning on getting a 60cm SD, simply because he's what I want. After handling my bff's 70cm boy, I don't think I'd be able to handle that much resin, but 60 is good.

Sewing for YoSDs is a pain in the hand joints, but my boys usually only get one outfit so it's not... that much of a hassle. -thinks about the planned Imperial Ming YoSD's outfit and shivers-
