What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. MSD, They are the perfect size to carry around, and travel with

    2. I seem to have all sizes at the moment. I have trouble settling on just one size.

    3. I am very fond of SD dolls because I prefer to play with the โ€œgrown-upsโ€. At the same time they are not as big as 70+ so Iโ€™m able to carry them with me.

    4. I prefer SD size.

For me they're the best size to play with, and easiest to dress. It's awkward to get furniture the right size for them however because most of my SD gang are children, rather than adults and the furniture in that scale assumes they're adults so isn't big enough to look right with my child dolls.

    5. I tend to love the bigger guys. I like more adult sculpts and you can see fine details more easily on bigger dolls too. I feel they have a stronger presence in a room as they are large and can't go unnoticed. They are also great to hug and hold. I would say 65 to 70cm are my fave but I do have some dolls both larger and smaller.

    6. I've always been an SD sized kind of girl. I just love how unusual they are; you see MSD sized and below dolls everywhere, but very few have the size of an SD. However, I do have plans to add other sides to my doll family.

    7. My favourite size is anything 50cm and up. I love large dolls, and I prefer them to be in the 60-75cm range. I like the realism that's possible with larger sculpts and I like the weight and physical presence of them. I also love the detail that can be put into the larger dolls' clothes, especially the realistic menswear from shops like Freedom Teller.

I do have a few smaller dolls, but I find the smaller the doll is, generally the less I like it (with a few exceptions). I've had tiny dolls, but I now know from experience that I'll never get a doll smaller than 1/6 size ever again.

    8. When I got into this hobby, I was all about the SD 70+ cm scale because I like big dolls.

There is something appealing about handling dolls that are more human-like in size and features. I also love the level of detail that clothing for larger dolls is able to afford.

Five years into the hobby and I still like large ball jointed dolls. Now, I have smaller sized dolls in my collection and I can better appreciate all the different sizes. :)

    9. I love SD dolls, mostly for the level of detail and the range of sculpts available. When I joined the hobby, all of the MSDs looked like children for the most part, and my characters have always been adults. That was a huge factor, although now companies are releasing mini versions of their big dolls.

I do like the mini sizes, though! They seem so poseable and portable. I want a few of them in the future.

    10. I prefer 60cm+ dolls, with 70cm being my favourite size. They are fairly easy to paint and to sew for and as others have mentioned, I like their presence in a room. They have a nice weight to them and feel good on my lap or in my arms while still being fairly portable (I can fit one in a backpack, for example.)

I do own an MSD, but I have never done much of anything with him despite pining after his sculpt for over a year before I was able to buy him. I had bought him thinking it would be nice to have a very portable small doll, but he just doesn't have the same wow factor. I will likely never buy another.

I also own an 80cm guy and I never thought it was possible for a doll to be too big for me, but I am unsure if I would get another like him either. I feel like a toddler lugging him around, and he's quite heavy to try to pose. I appreciate the novelty of the size and the fact that anyone who walks into my home immediately snaps to look at him first, but 75cm might turn out to be my new upper limit.

    11. for me it actually depends on the character. But if it's in terms of carrying them around and bringing them to Meet-ups i'd say MSDs/YOSD are easy to bring and SDs can be really heavy.. :) I do prefer 60-70cm dolls since my characters are mostly adults, i do plan to have YOSD version of them which is really exciting. it's like the mini version of my big dolls :)

    12. I really like 20-30 cm dolls although they can't be too baby face looking. I like how I can carry multiple around with me and don't take up a lot of room (still attending college and I like having them with me in my tiny dorm). I do have a head meant for a 45-50 cm body, but don't have a body yet for it so I can't really judge how much I like that size yet.

    13. I love the larger dolls, and own two SD sized dolls. But ultimately my favorite size tends to be MSD. They are more portable, and I am comfortable with that size when it comes to sewing and knitting. I also have an easier time finding a safe place to display them, while the large dolls stay mostly in a secure box.
I have a tiny Fairyland Puki Puki Flora, and I love her to bits, but I'm not interested in having more her size. Finding clothes and especially shoes to fit her tiny feet is hard to do, especially if you want something other than a slip on style. And finding wigs in her size that look good is a challenge, too.

    14. My first boy was msd but my second doll was sd. I have a few bjds now and honestly :3 I like all sizes. I don't have a yosd yet but I hope to get one one day. There all adorable.

    15. I have one SD and while I love her to pieces I prefer msd since they're easier to handle and take up as much space. Plus, they're usually a bit less expensive depending on where you're buying from. I have one small Yo-SD and she's pretty cute but I prefer mature tinies like Saintbloom.

    16. I have a lot of msds around 16 or so because I liked them. My favorite company decided to retire all of their dolls and make all new ones, which I'm not very pleased with. since then,I have decided to downsize my collection by selling off all of my msds in the near future and converting to sd size only. I plan on having 4-6 dolls and not exceeding beyond that number, that way I won't be overwhelmed and can focus my attention better on fewer dolls. As much as I like them, there is a such thing as having too much of a good thing.

    17. When I first started in the hobby, I bought both a 58cm doll and a minifee, thinking I would like the taller one more, however the minifee size has definitely become my favorite :)

    18. In general? I like 'em big :XD: If I could actually figure out how to use one of the 90 cm AoD boys for one of my characters, I would. My favorite doll in my house is 74 cm.
In my actual collection? I like monster/animal/fantasy dolls, and so many of the ones I like skew towards 1/6 scale. That's how my dolls are smaller than I would like. It was so frustrating seeing Aimerai's 1/4 anthro cat for the first time yesterday, I was just like, are you kidding me? I would have loved for her to have been my first doll. Oh well, too late for that!

    19. I prefer dolls that are between 15 and 35cm, they just have a real cute factor for me. I also find it much easier to buy and make furniture for these sizes and I can use fabric offcuts to make clothes. In the future I would not rule out owning larger dolls though.

    20. I love big dolls, so 60-80 cm for me. ^___^
I just love the weight of them, and slipping my finger into their hands. Hehe. And there is just something so satisfying to me about looking at a doll, all dressed and styled, and set up in a diorama of that scale. It's just really impressive and tickles my fancy.
