What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. I love all sizes, for the most part - but my adults are SDs - with the 70cm being the equivalent of 6' tall. So I'm not interested at all in mature minis because they simply don't fit into the scale. I don't separate into various 'worlds' the way some do.

    2. I think I like SDs and MSDs more...I never had an SD, but I think they look so gorgeous and reallistic. I hope to get one in the future.

    3. MSDs, because they are cheaper. :roll:They also take less space and are easier to handle. But if I were rich, I would collect SD-size, because there's more versatility in their face and body sculpts. I don't like child dolls and mature minis are still quite rare. I can count the companies with my fingers and have several left over... It's also easier to sew for SDs, when everything is not quuuuuuite so tiny. And there's more shoes for them too.

    4. I prefer 40 to 65 cm dolls. Any bigger and they are to difficult to handle and tote around in my opinion. Also any smaller and I find the faces start getting a bit creepy. Also I dont want to break the bank on a doll, so bigger is impractical. And smaller, well, If im going to pay crazy money for a hobby, I want something decent sized that I can properly show off and pose and dress and things. This is just my opinions though. :)

    5. My favorite size tends to be right around 55 to 60 cm. If larger than that, they tend to be too heavy and awkward for me to handle with full comfort and enjoyment. If smaller, they tend to not have the sort of presence, maturity, and look that I prefer so as to have the dolls suit my characters. I truly like how this size looks and feels in the "real world" and how clothes/props/etc. go with them too (able to have pleasing detail and nice fit without needing too much finesse).

I do enjoy other sizes (especially 40 cm--so much fun to play with, pose, and tote around!), but will avoid owning anything below 25 cm and above 65 cm. Thus, my group is probably going to end up with one 40 cm and a few 60 cm approximately. :kitty2 It took me a while to learn this (and some other useful preferences... :XD:) and I'm just now trying to put it fully to use. Personal preference can be such a tricky and intriguing thing.

    6. I personally prefer the SD size, from 56-70cm+. Most of mine are somewhere in the 60-70cm range, with one MSD in the crew. My MSD was my first, and, although they're a more manageable size to carry around, I'm not as big of a fan of their aesthetic. Also...I have to admit I like the extra heft in the larger bjds.

Like some others have said, it's easier for me to work on SDs, especially their faceups. Smaller heads means smaller details, and since I mostly do my own faceups, the SD heads give me a larger canvas to work on. Plus, I plan to eventually learn how to sew, and larger dolls are easier for me to make patterns and sew specifically for.

Also...I don't mind the extra heft. It gives me a workout whenever I have to carry them around :XD:

    7. Larger YO-SD's (26-31cm ish dolls) because at that size they're easy to sew for (not tiny) but it's still cheap because they're not enourmous. They're also easy to store yet hard to lose

    8. When I bought my first doll I'd thought I'd end up with mostly MSD (40cm) sized dolls, but it seems like I've ended up gravitating toward mostly SD (60cm and larger) sized dolls.
My current doll collecting plan will end up with me having one 15-17 cm doll, four 60cm+ dolls and one 40cm doll (or maybe two if I decide I just have to get that one I had a vague idea of getting).

As for why... I pretty much buy dolls based on if I like the sculpt and if I have some idea for their look/character. And so far I've found more large dolls I like than I have smaller ones.

    9. Personally I prefer smaller dolls (Msd and smaller!)
I really do like some Sd sculpts but at least in my current situation, I wouldn' t have any place for them.
Also, since I already do own 2 mature Msds I feel like a doll with a similiar bodytype but 20cm bigger wouldn' t fit in my collection Funnily enough, I wouldn' t mind having a mature Yosd...
Maybe once I have more space I' ll just buy a nice Sd sculpt and see how I like it :huh?:

    10. I've recently jumped on the SD bandwagon. I just feel like they have more of a presence.

    11. When I started the hobby it was msd because they were a nice in between size and easy to shop for. Then I went crazy and sold them all off for yosd. I discovered that yosd is cute, and I like them, but the clothing choices just aren't diverse enough, so I'm back to msd and loving it!

    12. Msd and smaller is the perfect size for me  sd is just too big and because my room is small I wouldn't have room :pout:

    13. I enjoy SDs the most. I like the aesthetic of mature sculpts best and the SD size has so much to offer when it comes to that. I also like how large SDs are, they definitely do have a presence as others have mentioned.

    14. I like bigger dolls, even though they are so expensive and heavy :''')
I'm not one who own a lot of money too *lol*

the reason is because bigger dolls tends to have detailed sculpt and I love teenager/adult face ^_^

    15. I like YoSD's and SD's! I dont know, MSD just isnt special for me. SD's are cool, elegant and adult-like. YoSD's are cute and easy to travel with. MSD's could be anything but I dont know, I just dont like that scale too much. I do consider getting an MSD, but only because I really want a Lillycat once and most of them are MSD. I dont own a YoSD rn but I will get one as my next doll!

    16. I personally Love the SD size, but I do also have tinies as well. The big 60-70cm dolls are just so cuddly! Plus, I'm notoriously a klutz, so I use to panic when the wind would knock over my MSD sized dolls. I felt like they were going to just explode into pieces.
I'm a little nervous with my tinies, but they're closer to the ground anyway...so somehow I don't feel like they'd just shatter.

    17. I prefer MSD sized ball jointed dolls. not too big or not too small and they're easier to carry around. I am a smol girl and carrying SD dolls aren't just for me plus I am lazy af x'D

    18. I love 70cm males, but found 1/4 size is the easiest to change clothes and bring everywhere. I always feel so tired after changing clothes for big sizes...

    19. I prefer my ladies in the 57-65cm range for an ideal balance between scale and detail. Though I've owned a few, smaller dolls lack weight; presence. They just don't feel like companions to me. :(

    20. I'm kinda agree with you, although I buy MSD dolls to become their "children" or something lol XDDD
