What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 14, 2010

    1. I prefer the MSD and YoSD size for ease of transportation (I've had to move a couple times in recent years, so it sure was appreciated) and because they're a good size for using leftover of my human sized sewing. Downside being, for MSD it's hard to find patterns that aren't for minifée/slim dolls, and mine just won't fit in that category. Also, there's not so much choice for mature looking faces in that size.
I'd like a SD someday maybe, but I'm not sure I've yet seen a sculpt that really makes me fall for it, and I don't know how I'd make them fit in with the rest of my gang.

    2. I only own SDs because I prefer slightly more mature looking dolls over children sculpts in MSD or YoSD. The customization range is also wider in my opinion since you can make from a really young tween character to an very old character with the help of face-up and some styling. Since I am an aesthetics-oriented person, convenience (I.e.: heavy, difficult to carry around) does not matter much as long as I find my dolls beautiful.

    3. Any range from 40cm to 65cm. So 1/4 & 1/3.

I do consider smaller size but not going to buy a lot of those. Maybe only one

    4. So far it seems like I don't really have a preference...I just want to buy dolls that I like how they look, doesn't really matter the size xD

    5. I've started to learn fashion design and it's easier to sew for SD size, so looks like I'm moving from 1/4 to 1/3...

    6. I favor the larger sd size mostly do the the sculpts available.I prefer more mature faces and bodies.

    7. I have all different sizes but I find I really like the SD and larger. I own two Lusions (80cm each) and two Trinities (105cm each). And the detail in their sculpts is just so pretty. Like, on the Trinity, she has this little detail of the spine on the back of her neck, just three little bumps like you'd feel on a human. It's delicate and beautiful, not something you'd normally find on the smaller sculpts.

Sure, they're big and bulky and hard to dress, but I just love their presence. Plus, there is a readily-available selection of inexpensive baby/toddler clothes and shoes available that I can shop for at the nearest mall, rather than spending uber amounts of money for doll clothes and shoes and then even more money to have them shipped to me. Win-win all around!

    8. I do own various sized bjds from 16 to 105 cm but i prefer 60-70 cm dolls, mostly for their mature look and presence, plus it is easier to find clothes this size. I love big dolls like Dollmore Trinitys but i dont do much with them because they are hard to handle for me. Most of time they just sit around and look great :)

    9. I definitely prefer SD size dolls and I could probably go down to MSD for portability, but I'm worried that if I got a YoSD I'd just lose it.

    10. I really do love 50cm+ dolls and SD sized dolls in general but somehow I end up hoarding MSD scale. MSD size is easier to handle but I prefer SD sized 'cause all the detail that can go in their clothing etc.

    11. I don't particularly have a preference. I mostly have large dolls. Only 2 dolls that I own at the moment are smaller than 60cm. I'd prefer more small dolls, but I like my dolls to look more mature. Most smaller sculpts tend to look more child-like so I'm less interested.

    12. I prefer the smaller dolls! Like yo-Sd sized I GUESS but not really? I like mature bodies on dolls and I like them to be under 32cm. Right now I'm paying a layaway for MerrydollRound Dango and am also going to preorder Dust of Doll Cöti (two layaways, I know I'm bad) and I REALLY want a HeartStrung Ruse. So yeah that's around the size of doll I like. I don't have much space because I collect a lot of plushies and have a ton of books and a small room so small things are ideal for me plus small stuff is so freaking cute!!!

There's also the appeal of them being easier to take out in the world haha

And they usually(?) cost less than the bigger dolls.

    13. Smaller objects admittedly do have an extra cuteness factor. I've never handled anything other than my MSD, though, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about a super tiny doll or an SD.

    14. I prefer big dolls, size 1/3 or SD, I feel that they are more versatile and there is much more variety especially in male models :)

    15. I like MSD or smaller sizes. I started with blythes so they’re 12in. They’re what I’m used to. So when I got my first BJD I wanted them to be around the same size. I think SD sizes sort of intimidate me because they’re so big. I say go for an MSD if that’s what you feel like is better for you!

    16. SD! 60cm to 72cm i just love how big they are.

    17. I own all sizes, but I tend to like the large sized dolls.

A lot of it is because I like mature sculpts and those are most likely to be large. The clothes that is more mature also is more likely to be found for large sizes (I don't sew).

I like the presence of a large doll--it is a size you can't miss! (I sometimes feel I can lose the tinies... but that will never happen with the large dolls).

Fabrics and clothes look good on the larger ones--it's easier to find it in a thickness and pattern that looks right.

Downsides to the large dolls is that they can be heavy, take up space, are more expensive, etc. But I still like the sculpts that come in large the most... So even if I wanted to have smaller dolls, I can't, because the sculpts don't come in those sizes.

    18. I personally prefer sizes that aren't cumbersome or heavy to carry. MSD is as large as I will go, and I really adore light weight tinies that look like they could travel in my pockets. Traveling with smaller dolls is just easier for me.

    19. I like the SD's and the MSD's the Tinies are super cute too! I like the size of the SD's and the MSD's because ofhow realistic they can look. The Tinies are adorable!

    20. I think all sizes are great, but I especially love SDs because I love the fact that they’re so big xD plus I enjoy doing faceups on them and making outfits for them
