What is your style like when it comes to dolls?

Jan 6, 2017

    1. I think I prefer teen looking dolls mostly, MSD size, and usually the big eyes-small nose combo, even though I like looking at more mature dolls, too. I like chubbier bodies as well as thin ones, and I love wide hips -even though neither of my dolls have them. Regarding the clothing style, I love more particular styles, gothic or lolita. I end up dressing my dolls in more casual clothes. :"

    2. All my dolls are boys and all 65-72cm, so pretty big. Generally, I like realism, and they're all adults. I have nothing against getting a child doll, and I'd like to for a couple of my novel characters who were 4 & 6 when the books started. The size of my BJDs mainly comes from the first one I bought. I really wanted that one, and he was 1/3, and the others just kinda fell into line!

I like bodies to be not too thin. The ones with ribs showing and stuff then to freak me out quite a bit. They look unwell, and I don't like that. I tend to pick faces that I find attractive, which I guess is why I find girls less interesting as dolls. Also, I prefer men's clothes in real life so I like designing the, and picking them out more.

    3. I guess for me I really like dolls with well-defined features, more mature looking sculpts. I also find myself drawn to dolls with plump lower lip lol.
As for dressing style, I prefer dressing my dolls in formal suits most of the time. Recently I am looking into fantasy/special creature dolls, maybe they will be my next collection theme

    4. I like realistic looking dolls...but the darker I can make their clothing and personalities, the better.
I like my boys pretty, androgynous almost...and I like my girls to be mysterious.

    5. Mature dolls for sure. I bought a mini fee once and it didn't last long. Sculpts- ALL DEM. No really, It depends on the dolls personality. Which sort of happens on it's own for me. As for clothing style? I don't have just one. Some are punk, others are elegant. In a way, they are all 'neat'. I like everything to fit nice and match.

    6. Twenty plus dolls in and I'm still trying to figure what all these girls are telling me about thier styles and tastes. My dolls are all far more colorful than I would ever be irl. I have a gamut of sizes too, so from really tiny peeps to my sd girls, everyone tries to be different. Most of my dolls all have modern clothes that have a simple touch to them because, advanced wardrobe was the step after all the peeps would roll in! So, still trying to see if odd or fantastic doll types will join the group? I'm all over the place with them right now........:o

    7. I love the more stylized old school look, or those that are odd or quirky...nothing too realistic lasts in my crew. I think it’s because I’ve created an urban fantasy where anything goes from ghosts to shape-shifters to sentient toys. The same goes for how I style them and the clothes they wear. I’m living in a fairytale world here and don’t want any pesky reality sneaking in!

    8. I really like unique dolls that have unique sculpts. usually macabre dolls like the new spine mermaid from DreamValley. I find that I either like those or really like traditional cute doll look like most fairyland sculpts.

    9. I like dolls that are on the more unique side of things. I'm not a fan of super realistic sculpts, or overtly anime-style ones. They can look great, but I prefer something closer to the middle of those extremes. I really like sculpts with readable expressions (ie, a smirk or a pout), although I'm not super into ones with open mouths. I also tend to prefer dolls with eyes set further apart, because I think it makes the face look extra cute, and even more interesting. Things like animal or elf ears, horns or fangs, etc, are also big draws for me!

    10. I like pretty fantasy sculpts, mostly girls, and my favorite style is a mix of stylized semi realistic... when a doll is realistic it's really not for me. (That said I'm considering getting a more realistic one lol it depends on how I see a character and the sculpt) I rarely like anime eyes faces either (exceptions as well lol!) . I can be a bit picky because of face style.
I think body type wise it varies a bit, but not much. For clothing, it depends on the character but I'm not very attracted to traditional stuff.
I like a little bit of almost everything sometimes though, like from tinies to huge dolls, it can even be a little overwhelming.
For guys however I'm having a really hard time deciding what I'd want... to me almost every one looks like a girl because my taste in men is "manly" lol. However realistic dolls can freak me out a bit and full beard on dolls would be tricky D: so that's also a no... anyway that's why I'm mostly wishlisting girls and have no plans for a guy yet.

    11. Mature, semi realistic small headed (7,5-8 inch)70cm/SD dolls. It's ok if they are a bit stylized too. They all have 14mm small Iris eyes, and 1/3 feet too. No bulky ones allowed. My dolls are thin. And also good posers. And one of them is a character doll wannabe. (He will Be if I ever finish his face up.) this time their style is "from sock clothes to normal craps." It will change when I'll be more skilled in sewing. My first boy wearing clothes and boots from ACBJD, but it's not his own clothes. I just bought it because I thought that my boys need a leather set. (And they always got at Least one pair of Shoes as a welcome gift from me. )

    12. I prefer less mature dolls, single-jointed and (when possible) solid torso. Big head/big eyes and small nose/mouth. Realism is ok but I much prefer simple, cute dolls with minimal detail. I lean more towards SDs but also enjoy YoSDs and would like MSDs one day.
Clothes vary depending on the doll.

However, I also really enjoy "weird" dolls like Doll Chateau and that whole aesthetic so your alien creature sounds really cool.

    13. Ethereal, realistic fantasy boys ranging in expression or aesthetic, but all fitting firmly into the "mature fantasy" category.

    14. I love elaborate fantasy aesthetics for dolls, especially in outfits, but I'm also partial to having a more toned down but still cute/fancy outfit to change into. In terms of faces, I like semi-realism but still like somewhat big eyes, I prefer softer expressions/facial structures, and same for bodies, I like softness and a sort of delicate look for dolls reminicient of old porcelain dolls.

    15. l love the kind of stylized realism that Merrydollround and Doll Chateau have. I adore dolls with prominent noses (Karmavtica) and I prefer smaller eyes.
I like handling MSD dolls more but being that most mature dolls, which I prefer, are SD I usually go for those. Body type wise I like exaggerated realism (like with faces too) for example Artifex Kindred and MDR.
What comes to styling I like elements of fantasy, historicity, naturalism and folk clothing from all over the world.
I enjoy muted, warm and jewel tones with brighter colors more as an accent.
For face ups I like contrast and larger lines. I prefer interesting over beautiful - or rather, for me interesting is beautiful.
Thank you for asking, it was really fun to answer!

    17. I like them all!!! It's why I have to really control myself in this hobby!!

I lean towards cute and adorable for my smaller dolls. For minis it's a mixed bag, I love pretty girly girls with a lot of softness. I like handsome and cool boys with dreamy looks, but also really love dark, grumpy bad boys.

I usually dress my girls in dresses and pastel colors. My boys are mostly styled in casual comfortable.

    18. I want my dolls to look friendly and inviting! I have a tiny-doll budget, so I've stuck mostly with child dolls, but a couple MSDs have caught my eye...For an adult doll, I want them to look elegant, so they'll look fabulous in whatever garments I make for them.

    19. Like @cleverLC I intend for my dolls to look sweet & inviting. So even if I have a Netflix-like witch-like babe wearing only black, she still has to look like an innocent sweetheart.

I don't have a favourite eye/lip/face shape. Generally, I like it when each feature matches well with one another. I like extremely different styles: from nearly realistic Supias, Zaolls and Limhwas (I'd love to own a Limhwa one day ;) to very stylised volks sculpts (so I love my 4 sister twins :)

As far as the size is concerned, I think the most comfortable one is MSD, obviously. But, I couldn't find as many cool shoes for this size and since I had to downsize to one size only, I kept my SD girls. I resigned from owning boys in general.

That being said, I like youthful-looking female dolls in particular. Small (like, really small) breasts are super cute imo and so are shapely bellies. I don't like overly big breasts or bellies that look like they have undergone an excessive corset training. And I like longer torsos and shorter legs. While not every doll is like the petite Zaolls (their bodies are perfect imo), I still prefer dolls that don't have too much of the "leg" aspect to them ;)

Clothing? I generally don't have time nowadays, so my dolls are neglected in this department. But my plan is to sew a lot of clothes that are either super-delicate (corsets, tulle dresses, etc). or very warm and soft looking. I like it whe I hold a doll and she feels like a teddy bear. Layers, velvet, soft woollen fabric and fur.

    20. I seem to have a preference for the stranger dolls... I love the dolls made by Doll Chateau, like the spider body doll. I didn't get her because I had a lower paying job at the time and now that I have a higher paying job she's discontinued! :(
