1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. 70% hobbyist, 30% dreamer. I thought I was mostly dreamer till I realised none of my dolls have any past. They have a 'now' and barely any future though they are each part of an age group. I am building their personality bit by bit via clothes and, hopefully, future face ups I'll do myself. And DO take a LOT of pictures of them, blank face plates or not. Though I do call them my children.

    2. I suppose I fall mainly into the dreamer category, but I feel like when I get more invested with figuring out clothing patterns and investing in a good camera, then I could be considered a bit of a hobbyist. So I suppose I'm 80% - 20%

    3. I think I would fit in all categories. 50% collector / 40% hobbyist / 10% dreamer. Althought I love customizing my dolls (sewing, making wigs or even face up) I'm not overly-skilled and I only do it to the point where they look the way I want them to stay, I dont change their appearance or face ups often, and I like to buy ready outfits once in a while. The dramer part of me exists because I can't see them as "only dolls/collectibles" they just have to have names and personalities and backsoties so I can justify their styles, otherwise the customization seems pointless hahahha sounds crazy, i know...

    4. I can't decide between dreamer and hobbyist. Both of these categories fit to me so I guess it is 50-50.
Not all of my dolls have a huge background story but some have and I think a lot about it and create a world for them in my mind. On the other hand I like to sew and slowly get into face ups.

    5. I'm more of a dreamer than a hobbyist. I WANT to be able to do faceups and I WANT to be able to make nice clothing... but it's frustrating to look at what I create and embarrassing to try to photograph it. I value items of actual quality and I realize that I'm not on that level yet.

I would hate to spend $500 on a doll only to have cheap and trashy looking handmade clothing or my sloppy faceups on it. I feel like it would be a waste.

    6. I think I am mostly a dreamer, though hobbyist is almost tied. I love to make characters and stories, and anything I make as a hobbyist fuels my dreamer side even more. :)

    7. Definitely a dreamer, with perhaps a hint of collector. I wouldn't be into BJDs if I didn't have characters I want to have physical representations of.

    8. Im a dreamer with a bit of hobbyist i try to make as much stuff for them as posible but sowing isent somthing im good att but doing smal thing in like polymer clay or cernit well my mom is alwasys praising me but im a perfektionist so i dont think anything i make lookes good...-.-

    9. Dreamer I love my dolls and they all have their own stories

    10. Probably collector and dreamer at the moment. Although my job allows me to participate in the hobby, the downside is that I don't have the time to devote to refining and exploring the hobby as an artist/craft person even though I have the supplies to do so. For now, I'm content with collecting unique items and building/refining wardrobes that are specific to each doll and character.

    11. Mainly a dreamer, second by collector. I am never a hobbyist :p

    12. A hobbyist collector is probably the best fit for me. Doing my own face ups and learning in that area is where I work with them most, other than the fact I buy most of the limited variety. I only own 1 doll that's not a limited edition of some kind.
Though I'd say I'm more strongly pulled in the collector direction.

    13. I'm mostly a dreamer, but I will also count myself a hobbyist. All of my dolls have personalities and characters that I have created for them. Doll-Mage's description of a dreamer, that 'you care deeply for them on the same level an author cares for the characters in their novels' resonates with me very deeply. My dolls are resin figures in the most essential sense, and I myself have dedicated myself to determining their looks and characters, and when I spend time with them, my fondness for them stems from the fact that my dolls are characters I know very well and come to love. (Can't think of them as my children, though, because many of them are about my age! Maybe the Tiny ones...)

I also consider myself a hobbyist because of I photograph my dolls and it has become a very big part of my doll hobby - to an extent that I sometimes like shelling characters into sculpts that make them photogenic. And furthermore spoil them with beautiful outfits!

    14. I am mostly a dreamer but a bit of a collector as well. I enjoy creating stories and characters for each doll whilst exploring their interpersonal relationships amongst each other.

As for hobbyist, I already have an interest in photography, but bjd I think has helped me to go from "selfie king" to an amateur photographer :dance I don't really have anything hand-made for my dolls. It's kind of strange though, as I am a creative person and have even made clothes for myself and used to draw.

    15. I´m a dreamer but I would love to be a hobbyist too because I envy people who are creative with their bjd. :love

    16. I'm a collector and a bit of a dreamer. My doll's don't have to have a story for me to love them, just seeing them in the morning and throughout my day makes me more happy then anything really.

    17. Eh, I voted Hobbyist. I'd say I'm actually like 60% Hobbyist, 40% collector, and 0% dreamer.

LOVE customizing dolls, LOVE owning them and sitting them all together to ogle, DON'T make up stories or characters for them.

    18. Dreamer with a good bit of hobbyist thrown in. I consider myself an enthusiast, not a collector. I don't get them just to make my resin family bigger or more exclusive. I think very carefully before I buy one because I want them to fit in perfectly with the others. I buy each one intending to keep it forever.

And I actually think of them as little actors!! Waiting in the wings until the time comes for them to perform. I enjoy doing maintenance on them, I do some sewing for them, and I'd like to eventually do faceups. I am very "crafty", I like working with my hands. I love that BJDs are so "hands on".

Me too! I never had much interest in taking photos until I got my first BJD. They are by far my most frequent photo subjects.

    19. I'm definitely A hobbyist. I originally got so interested in these dolls because of the customization aspects. I went to beauty school and worked for a salon where I actually did sew in weaves and helped make wigs for people. I learned to do makeup and I know a lot of makeup and hair techniques that cross over into bjd stuff. I also love to sew. I make my own clothes a lot and I love doing it. I'm not that great at drawing but I think all the other aspects make up for it. I do want to draw my own tattoos on my dolls bit I think I might just have a good friend do that for me instead.

    20. I feel exactly the same, though there is one doll I'm customizing to look like a character from a game but that's as much back story I'll give my dolls
