1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. some people really do take joy in mint condition items purely because they are untouched and perfect in a way that (to these people) something that is used regularly, even with care, never will be. I guess you could say it's a form of perfectionism. now, most people who go on the antique roadshow type of thing I would expect to be significantly concerned with money, but some people do just like to keep things in perfect condition.

as to the OP, so far I see myself as a hobbyist with a generous dose of the dreamer...I stayed awake for hours the day I decided to buy my first doll as revelation after revelation about her character washed over me, but in the weeks since I've been focussed more on sewing, knitting, building, and decorating for her. however, she's still in transit from the company, so I'm withholding my vote for another few days. ;)

in some ways, the traditional "dreamer" tendencies towards ongoing stories are unappealing to me--since it's difficult for dolls to grow and change like humans, I see my girl as a vehicle for short stories rather than trilogies. the backstory may be there, but she exists within a very narrow slice of time in the present, and one that is less concerned with plot and more concerned with idea. if that makes sense.

    2. not a collector, but somewhere between hobbyist and dreamer.

    3. Defiantly not a collector, but I kinda fit in between hobbyist and dreamer. I love my resin children and they all have their own "personality" that I enjoy making clothing and such around, but I tend to agree with undermost salamander about the "dreamer tendencies" thus far my girls just kind of live in the present and fight me when I try to put them into my latest sewing creations.

    4. I'm a Dreamer but then once I get my first BJD I'll start being a hobbyist

      yay !!

    5. I fall into the Dreamer category. My dolls all have detailed backstories and elaborate storylines.(Even the ones I don't own yet.) I love the roleplay aspect of the hobby.

    6. Definately hobbyist! I enjoy making them clothing, looking at new things, taking photos and very soon to add face ups into it too!

Collecting is not my cup of tea when it comes to BJDs, don't have the space, money, time or even love to want loads.

I would love to see someone's huge collection! I reckon they're wickedly cool! But for me, i enjoy giving too much attention to per doll that i rather have a small crew.

My liking of few in numbers, lots of sewing, lots of photos... maybe that's why my boys are spoilt...

    7. I am truly a combination of all three categories; however some more so for different types of dolls. I am a true American Girl collector, but for all other types I am mainly hobbiest, and partial dreamer. This is the case for the BJD. With AG, the cost is not that prohibitive, and I can collect many things easily. With BJD, the cost is so prohibitive, I have absolutely no plans to be a collector, but simply to have 4 or 5 that I absolutely adore, can dress as I like, photograph, and learn to sew and do face-ups for.

    8. Hobbyist. I love the fact I could create a character and make clothes.. The possibilities are endless and my boy is a great outlet for creativity. :)

    9. Dreamer and some Hobbyist. ^_^

    10. Heh. I dont fit into any 3 of them. I dont dew or do face-ups, i dont collect them, and im not just a dreamer. I basically just like to buy them and play around with them. Take pics, talk with them, make photo-stories, take them places.

    11. I'm an obsessive hobbyist. I treat my dolls like dolls but my life revolves around them.

    12. I'm a cross between hobbyist and dreamer. A lot of my dolls are story characters (and now I have one that's one of my comic characters too), and they all have very developed backgrounds and are little people to me.

I also like doing my own faceups--it kind of goes with the character thing for me. There are people than can execute faceups better than I can, but I can see the character in my head and know what they look like. Besides, faceups and body blushing are fun. I hand sew occasionally and can make fur wigs, though those aren't my favorite things to do.

    13. okay, so I thought I was a hobbiest.. but then when I got my ... tiny . I began to talk to her and make up her life.. and I've only had her for a day or two.. pretty weird, but awesome too....

    14. ofcourse I am a dreamer. I would be a hobbyist too, if I new how to and if I had all the materials ^^

    15. I put dreamer, but I don't go on complete flights of fancy... When I see a doll I like, I think about what would go well personality-wise with them.

There is a doll at the moment that I am 100% in love with and I have the best idea for - once I finally make it (it'll take some time) I know it will blow people's socks off! :P

    16. I am most definitely a hobbyist! I love the photography aspect most; they are the perfect model - looks pretty, doesn't move for hours and won't complain! I also love making clothes, and painting them :fangirl:

However, if I had the money, I might be a collector type also. The idea of having a perfect set of rare dolls just appeals to me :) I wouldn't say I was much of a dreamer at all. None of my dolls fit in a story or world - I'd rather focus on how they look without having to be restricted by the character they are.

    17. I am between hobbyist and dreamer, but I chose hobbyist because I love to custumize my dolls and creat new one. :-> but certainly a dreamer too.

    18. I am hobbyist first because I love the challenge to design and make clothes, costumes etc. But I am also a dreamer. I only have one doll so far, and a second on the way. I picture them as having different personalities based on changes in the wigs, eyes and clothing and accessories. As a teddy bear artist I always name my bears and write a short story for them (very short). I see these dolls as another way of "playing" and expressing myself creatively.

    19. I am mostly a hobbyist although I have quite a bit of collector also in me. I like sewing for my dolls and like to see them pristine and somewhere I can see them and just look at them and appreciate their beauty.

    20. I love to find a doll and then all the items that particular doll needs. Sometimes it's even another doll to accompany it. I love looking for the right clothing, shoes, wigs etc. and putting it all together.
