1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. exactly like me :)
Then I found a blog about BJDs. The owner of the blog is really kind and give me some advices. So I started to learn more about them, the companies, how to take care of them. Now I'm saving for my first doll

    2. I had gotton into BJD when one of my friends from school brought her BJD in and I loved him... I even secretly wanted to take him home with me.... but I knew better. So I searched for sites all over. and I found DOD and I found him. _Heart eyes_ I have been savig ever since. I am almost there. *Filled with glee*

    3. I first saw them a year ago at an anime convention. I asked the dealer what they were, I don't remember exactly what he said but it put me off and I didn't give them much thought again until the same convention this year. This year I talked with other people (more positive people who actually like BJDs) and it rekindled my interest (more like a roaring flame ^.^). So here I am now actively pursuing my first BJD!

    4. A friend of mine from school brought her CP Chiwoo with her one day and I was hooked. Together with her I browsed on the internet to look for one I wanted to save money for and by the time I was used to the price-tag I started wondering if I could, one day, make a doll like that myself. It was that wish that actually got me into this hobby. I doubt that I would have bought a doll if I didn't think it would help me creatively.

    5. Honestly the first place I saw a BJD was heise's photos on her DA page. Right away I was captivated by these unique looking dolls... then after a bit of research I found out how expensive they were and the idea of owning one went out the window for some time. Later I was given the opportunity to buy (and afford) one so I jumped at the chance. I have never regretted that decision. :)

    6. That's an interesting question! Well I started with my childhood memory, I love to play with dolls and dress them up (even I am a boy lol, that's why I have to make my own doll, just sewn up with fabric from scrap or T shirt (very creative child lol) and I always dream of getting a REAL DOLL!!!! (my mum would never buy me one :( so that desire kind of stored on the back of my mind. Then as I grown up being a fashion design and working with human bodies (must be kind of fulfill my lack of dolls from a childhood lol) I do forget my wish list of having a doll, so one day out of the blue I just thinking about having a 1/3 scale figure to experiment my designs. I stumble the word BJD??? I have no idea so I go search on google and found the how wonderful world of a dolls I always dream off!!!, finally I decided to order one from Iplehouse (which I found the most beautiful works) so I soon will have Jessica in my studio. Can't wait to dress her up and share a pics with you guys here!!! will keep up date soon :)

    7. I collect other dolls. Lots of other dolls. I just sort of found out BJDs through my other doll collecting.

    8. I have been collecting Blythe's and saw a BJD on someone's stream and fell in love the Lati Pirates, that was it I had been bitten with the BJD bug !

    9. watching a movie called 'grandmas boy' after a guy gets kicked out of his apartment for not paying rent he stays over
one of his friends house wich works with him in the video game business testing games and on his desk he notices theres a doll wearing real like clothes and was very poseable, i wont tell you what happens after,
but i was wondering where can i find those?
i did a quick search on google and i found they were called ball jointed dolls wich made sence for them to be poseable.
one search later and i found the orgasm of my life!, not what you think , but thats when i found a whole list of websites for bjd's ;D

    10. I had seen one on the other board i am on and wanted one for almost a year now when i finally got the courage to buy one it was my Julian and i fell in love with her face i guess she kind of looked like me. (not) i guess it was her sculpt that got the best of me. Now i am waiting for two more to come live with her.

    11. My best friend got me into them. She was always looking at pictures of them on the internet and she got her own finally for Christmas last year. I also browsed the interwebz and DeviantArt adn saw all the bautiful photos people took of them. I wasn't really into it until this year, when she [my friend] has been saving up to buy a new doll (a Fairyland Riff FeePle) and it's all we've been talking about. Now I'm saving for my own (a LittleFee Elf El)! ^_^ Can't wait to post my own pretty pictures

    12. It was a gradual thing for me. But for as long as I can remember, I wanted something to physically represent the characters I would come up with during play. The first while of looking at BJDs, it was of wistful interest. I kind of discovered them online, then forgot, then rediscovered them when I was looking at custom Obitsus.

I was interested in Obitsu, and researched everything I could about them, then stumbled into this world of BJDs. I've been COMPLETELY hooked since. [My bf would probably say obsessed.. xD] I never thought I would own one until last February when I discovered the 'affordable' realm of Bobobie and ResinSoul. Now that I have considerably more experience, I am ready to get rid of my first doll and 'upgrade' to one of my dream dollies. XD

    13. A friend of mine showed me one. And she was talking about how she was going to get one. For a while I watched her collection grow, and watched how beautiful they were. She lives in America, so I was always seeing them though photos. I didn't have any income whatsoever and my parents flat out said they weren't going to buy me one. [;A;] I guess my want to join the hobby progressed from her love of them. I love seeing what she gets and how creative she is with them. Then, a few days ago. She said that for Christmas she's going to buy me a doll and wig, and make me some eyes. *___* So... I guess that's what's gotten me into dollies!

    14. I came across them a couple of years ago. Kept an eye on them and now that I have a job have started to get serious. =)

    15. i knew about dollfies when my friend told me about it. then i forgot about it for months till i remember 'OH DOLLFIES' then i started looking up about it. then at random i just typed out dollfies on dA and hiritai's photographs kinda poped for me ; A ;
      and i wanted one since.

    16. I was looking up anime figurines online, and I stumbled across Danny Choo a few months ago. While traveling through his sight I was introduced to his "daughters" and pretty much fell in love. It took me awhile, but I gained the courage to delve deeper, and after showing a friend from work, he informed me that he was a collector. Thus I was introduced to DoA. I do not have my own yet, but I am hoping to get my own daughter soon.

    17. Gaahh its all Hiritai's fault~~ I saw her deviation (88 : Reds) in the 24-hour zone on dA ... at first the whole setting creeps me out but not the doll, which ate me. :0

then i watched her, drooled over her gallery and... Oooh a FAQ!! ...oh.... ... COOL. JUST COOL.

The price was a shock though, so imma gonna make one for myself with some paper clay during the year-end holidays. BUT still I'll get one of those pretties online.... for sure....

      *works crazy on commissions*

    18. I saw a BJD for the first time few years ago, but I wasn't so interested in them so I kind of forgot about their excistense. About a year ago a friend of mine told me she had some dolls and I started to get more and more into the wonderful world of ball jointed dolls. I searched for beautiful molds, hoped and dreamt about getting my favourite dolls someday. I always thought it would be impossible for me to have one, though, because of the price, but then I got a chance to order a head I'd been drooling after for like, ages. And now I'm waiting for a good moment to order a body for it. :3

    19. About 9 years ago, being a wig maker and seller on ebay I saw a customized Volks doll, when I read I could change thier eyes and wigs I knew they were for me. I am glad I got in at the beginning because I got to watch the trends change as the dolls became less Asian esthetic and now the skys the limit for the looks you might find from fantasy to realistic they fastinate,
and continue to be very exciting and enjoyable dolls. (this was before msd or tiinies so there was alot of direction it could grow)

    20. I collect Sasha dolls and similar
      I also reborn

When I first saw BJDs I didnt like them at all. It was only a few weeks ago when I saw some Kaye Wiggs dolls which I liked that I looked further and then found Narsha and realised that bjds come in all shapes and sizes and faces
Now I await Narsha AND Arin from Dollstown and have a list a mile long of other dolls I would love to own
      This wait is KILLING ME!

I am finding that the Koreans are so polite. It's a pleasure to do business with them!
