1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Someone in the SasuXNaru LJ comm was a good artist so I followed her site and she posted up photostories in her personal LJ. This lead me to look up ABJD and first saw Luts and then DoA a long long time ago. Forgot ABJDs for a couple of years until the time I joined because alogue and Spiteless posted photos of their own dolls. Seeing them fired up my interest again. xD

    2. Oh, one day I was looking through friends pages, when suddenly one wonderful photo caught my eye. It was a photo of cute bjd, I actually don't remember who was that. But from this very moment I've fell in love... I asked everything about BJDs my friend and discovered this amazing world of dolls.

    3. Jerk friends telling me about BJDs and showing me the LUTS website! Thus beginning my spiraling descent into spending my money into collecting adorable BJDs, buying them cloths and etc.! (and slaying my wallet at the same time)

    4. I was/am originally started with Blythe dolls, and it just naturally progresses to BJDs. Especially when you start looking at dolly pictures on flickr, it's easy to fall in love with BJDs!

    5. I didn't find them on my own, Silentwhisper introduced me to her Yeon Ho and I fell in love. Until I found out the price ranges, which turned me away for a whole, ah, 20 minutes.

    6. a few years back, a friend of mine posted pics of bjds she wanted. i was amazed at how human they looked, and really liked this handsome fella with a silver wig. don't know his name, though. then, Eevee posted pics of one of hers, and she helped me get back into them. :3 another friend helped me pick out who i wanted, and i found Soori. <3

    7. I think I was following a contemporary manga artist thread and somehow ended up on the Volks site. Curious and intrigued by a doll aimed at older children (like me) that could be created into any vision I could have and would pose...omg, I was hooked.

    8. Well it all started at an anime con. My first one in fact. When I was there I saw these dolls that looked so wonderful that I asked one of my boyfriend what they could be. He told me they were BJD's. I was lucky that that night was a meeting about them. so I went to it and in the back of my head I could hear my characters. Maira was the main one, she wanted one to look like her. Well I shook off the want to buy one (also I had no money what so ever V.V') So I went to the reading room and picked up a random shojo beat, and guess what the main article was about? Yep BJD's... So I told myself that so help me I would be a collector! And now I have Maira waiting to be opened on christmas day ^.^

    9. About 2-3 years ago I was looking through Deviantart for pictures of Panic! At The Disco. A Panic-esque picture was displayed on my screen but somehow...it was abstract. (here is the image, actually http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&global=1&q=panic+at+the+disco+bjd#/d17l6d5) There I saw; what seemingly appeared to be 4 guys. At a glance, I thought they were photoshopped humans, but looking closer I realized they were not human at all. In fact, they were dolls. I didn't know what kind or realize what in the world they were! Certainly not the porcelain dolls that my grandmother collected or the puppets that kept me from sleep at night. So, the internet escapade began. I searched intensely on deviantart and google trying everything from 'human like dolls' to 'creepy real dolls'. After going through pictures of people in puppet costumes, Living Dead Dolls, and things of that sort...I found something about Asian Ball Jointed Dolls, aka ABJDs or BJDs. I was pretty much enlightened. And from there...even being so young (merely age 12 at the beginning of this all!) I began the fantasizing. Not until these past 6 months have I became utterly devoted and serious about the hobby though. But now, I have my first doll on his way...should be here in the next week or so.
So for getting me into this hobby, I have to thank Deviantart, Hitsugi, P!ATD, and the lovely Google (:

    10. I was browsing DeviantArt one day and i stumbled upon a picture, someone who had bright eyes, it caught my attention and i read the artist comments and found it was a doll. I had to know more which lead to around 2 years or so of research before i got my own. the doll was Hiritai's Hayden.

    11. I was browsing online a few years ago and stumbled onto photos of dolls by Melancholy Kitty. I fell in love with one of her Unoas even though I had no idea what it was. I stumbled onto info again a while later and just couldn't resist. I still lust after dolls in Melancholy Kitty's collection!

    12. first for me it was the luts anthros. i have just wanted one for so very long (actually i still dont have one) i didnt even realise it was a whole "fandom" or even how great the "human" bjds were. eventually i got my sun- a pipos bao- and just her weight and the feel of the resin made me fall in love, i wanted a bigger one! and if course im on DA and started looking up everyone gorgeous pics, sudenly there was this whole subculture i had never heven heard of, i just had to join in! now i have my sydney and im sure more on the way! its an art thing for me now. the photos and the painting <3

    13. One fine day I was browsing around DeviantArt galleries. (I wasn't member that time).
And somehow I just end up staring pictures of two most beautifull dolls I'd ever seen. (They were BTW Hiritai's Vin and kawaii_mon's Ophelia).
I did just like I do when something interests me; started research. I found different companies, Finish forum for these dolls and finally DoA. So many different dolls!! It took over a year to find my first.
And now, few years later from my accidental discovery, I'm still here. <3

    14. I saw a pullip doll of Bill Kaulitz, and I was like, "ZOMG, I WANT A BILL DOLL!"

But then I sort of forgot about it, hehe.

And yeah, dA played a role in it, too. I also found a BJD of Bill and Tom Kaulitz on facebook that made me want one. And I met a girl at Ohayocon who had one before I knew what they were. So I've just had exposure several times, I think my mind subliminaly wanted a doll. :)

But I've always liked dolls, (I collect Living Dead Dolls, ever heard of them?) and I met a girl at an anime meetup that had a girl. I google searched BJD and iplehouse came up, and thus, my first doll is on her way. :)

    15. Nearly 3 years ago I stumbled across a DA page. It was Bonhwa's. I was in awe with her Kim(Breakaway) who I thought was gorgeous and I wanted one from that point on. Now I have my adorable tiny Nia(:
It seems like there are quite a few of us discovered bjds through deviantart.

    16. I remember looking up dolls, like barbie dolls, and so on, and I stumbled across a dollfie website, this was back when they were starting to come out, and I had wanted once all through highschool, thrn when I was able to save up enough, I ended up purchasing my first doll, Aria. I've had her since 2007, and was sooo excited about getting her :)

    17. 7-8 years ago when I studied in high school. I had to do a design project and I choose to do Lolita fashion.

I found picture of Volks SD13 Megu and fall for her badly that make me got into BJD.

    18. I've always been into some kind of doll. Especcially the making clothes for dolls and customizing of them. It used to start with my barbies and everyone who've ever tried to cut their barbies hair into something fashionable knows 9 out of 10 times it does not work.

I heard about BJD's the first time on a convention. It was not a positive experience for me at that time. I did not like the cost, the way people talked about them, carried them around. Perhaps singleminded, but it creeped me out a little.

Until a friend of mine got her own BJD. Still holding onto how creepy they were, I did find my passion for making doll clothes and made some outfits for her doll. At the same time I wanted to try to sell homemade goods like bags and other stuff at a convention and asked myself if BJDoutfits would be profitable to make, so I started looking them up more and more. I liked the fact that there were so many creative options about BJD's, like doing different faceups, interchangable wigs. It really started to take to me.I started loving them more and more. Until I came upon the Asleep Eidolon MSD Blueberry and I was sold and now I'm on the verge of ordering my own and hopefully start a business with my dad in making clothes and furniture for BJD's.

    19. My daughter was telling me all about ABJDs. Then I stumbled across the April issue of Haute Doll. I was enthralled and researched the different companies. Hubby took me to Austin to visit with friends and took me to Kerbey Lane Doll Shop where I fell in love. He bought me a Dollfie Dream that day.

Now I have to find "the doll" for my daughter since she's the one that got me looking.

    20. I saw some BJDs owned by the owner of the webcomic Schism but never thought I would get them because of the price. Then a friend (shiroi_yukiko) who I met at an Animem Convention told me I could sell clothes for them to afford new dolls. So I bought my first doll, a Bluefairy Niky, and started sewing!

That was... 4 or 5 years ago?
