1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

    1. Back in 2006 my friend in school showed me them... that was all I needed to know I wanted one!

    2. deviantART. I stumbled across the account of auroreblackcat while looking for Snape fanart (*cough*) and saw that she had mysterious, lovely dolls. I had no idea what type they were. Then I found mio27 who makes wonderful clothes for the same type of doll. At that point I couldn't even Google them because I didn't know what search term to use. It's only recently that I discovered they were called abjd - so I went looking, I found and I was sold XD.

    3. I got into bjd from devaintart too! ^^ I'm not sure how but I ended up in SchizoCheese's gallery and just love Cloud! At first I was only thinking about how posable they are, how great they would be as model for me to draw and photograph but after having one, I just ended up wanting more! BJD are like potatoes chip. Betcha Can't Have Just One! XD

    4. Saw my first BJD's on another doll forum that had sections for all dolls. A girl on forum had wrote stories with her dolls as characters in the stories. I was thrilled. I loved taking pics and I loved creating stories, but never been able to put the two together. Now fast forward 4 years and I have been in hobby. I have owned over 300 dolls, written many stories as well as taking dolls on trips and taken many pics of those as well. I love the hobby as it allows me to be creative, and take pics.

    5. I bought my first doll from a friend in dA. When I initially saw my friend's doll gallery on dA, I didn't get it. She mainly had 1/6 with painted eyes. I probably followed something from her faves gallery in dA, and then began to hop around the galleries of doll collectors in dA. I fell in love with the way someone in dA portrayed their Binli doll.
... {LONG story}...My wonderful dA friend offered me her 1/3 girl AOD for a good price. I especially love that doll because my friend did her body blushing and face-up. After that, I went c-r-a-z-y!! I even got a Binli. I love every one of them. C:

    6. I stumbled across them when I was looking up another (DoA off-topic) doll that my friend collects. I think I had seen them before somewhere and thought they were a bit strange, but I warmed to them because they're so beautiful. ^w^

@Renearla Thank you for the potato chip comparison... that gave me my lol of the day. :XD:

I'm surprised so many people got into BJDs via deviantART. I haven't seen much BJD art on there unless I'm looking for it.

    7. I grew up making, collecting, and repairing dolls with my mum, but I kinda wandered away from it when I moved out, got married and so on. Then one day I was home sick so I decided to look for new web comics and I came across Acrylic Eyes, read the comic, followed a few links, squealed like a lil girl aaaaand the rest as they say, is history. :)

    8. I got into BJDs thanks to Pullip ! I originally only own Pullip, Taeyang and Dal. But on a pullip forum, I saw BJDs. I did not fell in love with them, I thought they looked freaking real XD
But I saw a KDF Bory and then, I like better BJDs now :D

    9. a friend of mine who got one... as soon as i've seen her open the box I wanted one too!

    10. I go to a lot of Anime conventions and between the artist alley where most of the artists had these beautiful dolls on their table, and the neumerous panels about BJDs, I've known about them, but recently, I've wanted a hobby and went to another Con and got talking to some BJD owners. I started talking about them, and doing research. I remember this girl having A Gin Ichimaru doll, a Grell from black butler, and many original ones. And that made me think, Wow! I can make my own super-awesome Anime Action figures! (And more!) So, upon looking at the sites she gave me, I'm now saving up for my very first BJD. =3 and the rest will be history.

    11. Never been much of a doll person. That's not saying I didn't have a Skipper when I was young ;)

My daughter is to blame. I appreciate the individuality of the dolls, the customizability, but didn't fall for a type until I attended my first doll meet. Even there, I survived until almost the end, when this teeny tiny little ridiculously happy doll was presented to me, and I was lost.

So for my 50th, I'm having a silly birthday: I get my first BJD, a pukipuki, and an anime hat! She's not even here yet, and I'm already looking at photo ops, making clothes, bought one wig and want 4 others!

    12. I saw my first dollfie on DA too! I fell in love at first sight, then saved for a year to get one! It took me forever to collect enough information on them before I finally started saving for one!

    13. I started collecting Pullips, and from there found my way to bjd's. I still collect both, but bjd's have majority of my dolly time at the moment.

    14. A friend of mine showed me a picture of the Tarot set at SoulDoll, and I wasn't super interested, just because most of them weren't my style. Then she showed me the pictures of the IpleHouse circus set, and I was hooked. They were absolutely gorgeous and I loved them dearly, and wanted them all!

That being said, I wanted to make sure those were the ones I wanted. So, I researched every company that I could find, and fell head over heels for a ResinSoul Mei. Luckily, Junkyspot had one in stock, which I bought immediately, and love her to bits. ResinSoul is still one of my favorite companies, though Soom and Iplehouse both have quite a few dolls that I'd sell a finger or two for.

    15. Mainly deviantart, but it really was my sister's friend who had one that really sparked my interest. She later threw the doll into her closet never to be seen again , which made it impossible for me to get one while I was still living with my parents. :(

    16. I read a story, and there was a doll the had joints and its look could be changed, so I did a google search and saw some pictures. I really didn't know that I could buy a bjd until later, but whatever.

    17. I discovered BJDs through a Gaia art commission. Some chick asked me to draw a character of hers and gave me a description of her OC. She linked me to DoD to use as a reference for her character's taste in clothes and I was instantly hooked the minute I found a good old Homme Ducan. I've always loved dolls and the thought of being able to completely customize one seemed like a dream come true for me. It didn't help that I was totally into the whole androgynous Visual Kei thing at the time either.

About a year later of angst and want, I was finally able to get one of my own. I researched Ducan and decided that all I had for him was puppy love. I settled for a Dollzone Floy instead, and three years later, he's still the favorite.

    18. The first time I ever saw a BJD was on the website of heisejinyao. She hadn't started making dolls back then and she just owned a bunch of (I think Volks) resin children that she used occasionally in her art work. I was curious about them but could only finds a handful of companies back then and the price was too steep for simple curiosity. I didn't decide to actually buy one until some close IRL friends revealed that they owned BJDs and let me play with them to experiment and see the different styles.

    19. What got me into BJD or introduced them to me was similar to the OP, I saw photos of them on DA and I was immediately taken aback, they were SO beautiful! Over the years my love for them has just grown and grown :)

I always had porcelain dolls as a little girl and the ideas of dolls as aesthetically pleasing as porcelain dolls with the mobility of BJD along with the customization really drew me in!

    20. It all started when I saw a bjd on the emilie autumn forum, I liked the doll and decided to investigate further. I didn't really know much about them at first and I remember leaving my search for a few months till I saw another doll somewhere and then I was hooked, I had to find out more, which lead me here. Now I know a lot more about bjds and other dolls, up till that point I'd only ever had barbies, bratz etc
