What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. My friend brought her new doll into college ^//^ he was absolutely beautiful! Not to mention absolutely darling! So I popped onto Ebay and started scrolling through the lists. That's when I set my eyes upon Triya, a B&G doll. And here I am today <3 it's all thanks to my friend and her very first doll ^//^ it's also thanks to her and her best friend I am a lot more knowledgeable about them now as well as the proud Mummy of three of my own lil kiddies <3

    2. I found about abjds from the movie The Dollmaster. I don't know why it charmed me that time but I was really excited to look up for them after the movie. Then I searched for what they are called and found Volks:aheartbea!

    3. I was browsing dA and I came across several photos of these beautiful dolls. I became interested in their appearance and I started researching about them. I found out they were dolls called BJDs. At first I only thought there were VOLKs made in Japan, but I soon found out there were many other foreign companies that manufacture BJDs, not just in Japan. I also remember reading a book called Japan Ai: A Tall Girl's Guide to Japan, and there was a chapter that mentioned BJD's. I instantly wanted to get one. :)

    4. I discovered them through some friends. One of my friends had a couple and I fell in love with them. However I avoided purchasing one for a while so I wouldn't become addicted. However it was my roommate who eventually corrupted me. She is the culprit behind my two BJDs. :-)

    5. I had found Pullips one day while browsing deviantArt. And upon being on a pullip forum, I kept seeing people talk about BJDs and how gorgeous they where. My curiosity got the better of me and I did a search on deviantArt. There I found a picture of an Iplehouse Mars named Griffin belonging to R727. I instantly fell in love and I am currently saving up for my first BJD ^_^

    6. I was watching a kerli video and then I keep seeing this doll in the video and i was like that looks cool.
I found out what the doll is called when I searched in the comments.

    7. I have only been into the hobby about 6 months, but how I found out about bjds was oddly enough by browsing the internet for steampunk costumes, when I came across this beautiful robotic faceup on a bjd. I googled the dolls and fell in love right then and there

    8. I'd seen pictures of gothic lolitas holding dolls and they seemed really interesting to me.
I started with pullips, dals and blythes and at first I rejected BJD's because they were so expensive and life like.
But overtime BJD's just grew on me and I sold all my other dolls(pullip, multiple dals and a blythe) to get my first bjd.

    9. What got me into BJDs ? A combination of loving dolls, having Barbies and and being frustrated that my gundam robots were more posable XD
I first looked into posable dolls and when I first saw a BJD at a convention, I knew I had to get one ^^

    10. I got into BJDs through Deviantart too. At the time I didn't even know what they were called though and had a hard time finding other companies. The only thing that I could figure out from the artist's comments were the dolls were from Latidoll and Blue Fairy, so I started there. I found Dollmore, Soom and Iplehouse after that and decided my first doll would be Iplehouse Harin. Man, was a nooby back then. I remember seeing on Soom's categories "Other BJ dolls" and I thought :nowords:...should I click on that or not!?
Well going on three years in September, I still have my precious IH Harin and six other friends.

    11. It started out when I was 13-14 or so, a cousin's friend had posted some pictures of her DoD (can't remember the exact sculpt tho'). And I thought it was beautiful! It had wings painted on its back, it stood on its own, and had frilly, black hair, not at ALL like the dolls I knew (Barbie, lol).

I asked where I could get one and she pointed me towards DoD's webpage, and for years I would visit it once in a while, getting inspiration and saving pictures of dolls and clothes x) I thought that it was the only company out there, haha. I showed them to my parents who were totally against the prices though, and I can understand them x__x

Later on during 2010, another friend posted some pictures of DZ dolls saying OMG WANT, which got me all fired up again. Started to ask around, and then I found a Swedish forum, which lead me here. And from that point, it all went downwards ;)
Funny enough, none of my planned dolls are DoD... Atleast for now x)

    12. I have been interested in BJD's since 2004-ish? I am a historical costumer and around that time a bunch of other costumers got BJD's to make mini-costumes for. That was it! I was blown away by the costumes and wanted to make my own. However I was fresh out of college and money/price was an issue. So my interest in BJDs was put on the back-burner. It was recently rekindled because my friend started talking about them and also thanks to a lot of free time. The hubby is deployed and I'm trying to keep busy and not think about the fact that he's gone. I tend to pick up and try out a lot of hobbies anyways but I think this one is to stay. I finally put my interest in BJD's into action and purchased some. :) I think what really got to me was the options, the customization, and the posing. You aren't stuck with one cookie-cutter doll.

    13. I wanted an "imouto" as I never have one...and so I ended up having "her" to keep me company in my lonely nights.

    14. I joined flickr and many of my contacts there were posting pictures of those "strange dolls" :P
Then I asked one of my contacts what kind of dolls those are and she told me BJD etc.
I was very fascinated about them but I thought they are a little bit too expensive to buy one for my own and I was not very into all those stuff with wigs, eyes where to get everything.
But then I informed a little, watched to many many pictures and 3 years later I fell in love with Unoa :D And bought one!
      <3

    15. i have 2 freinds that collect them, so after talking to them and having a chance to hold them it just happened oneday. i wanted one of my own! so i blame them :D now i have one on the way (although she is second hand) and 3 planned for the future.

    16. I remembered like o.O probably 7 years ago or more i saw them online adored them but never looked into them much i just knew they where expensive than a friend showed me the dollfie website and freaked me out on the price i just gave up right away getting one thinking i could never get one because how expensive they are and no job didnt help x.x Now!! finally getting my first dolly hopefully a bit after june 28th of this year ^__^

    17. It was just at the end of last year. :)

I was reading a kind of detective manga with a chapter about an old porcelain doll's curse. It was kinda stupid but made me look up pictures of porcelain dolls.

That way I found out about bjdcollectasy.com, where those pesky Angell-Studio banner advertising Baron Samedi just made me want to take a closer look to this strange beauty....
Angell-Studio became the first "BJD-related site" and all the dolls just fascinated me. I was surprised about the prices and it was just embarassing for me at first to show my boyfriend that I like pictures of dolls, but I fell in love with a certain sculpt at first sight, made her my grail doll and decided to get her.

Even though she was like the first I ordered, I already had about 5 dolls when my first love arrived....it's the snowball effect, seriously! :aheartbea

Nowadays I cannot imagine not having dolls at all. It's the perfect hobby for me and makes me happy, even though my purse suffers. I'm happy I found out about BJDs!

    18. I got in to dolls after stumbling across ABJD photography on DeviantART. I was instantly drawn in by their beauty. After that I became more aware of them at conventions and after talking to owners I knew I definitely wanted to get in to the hobby (:

    19. I don't remember how I was exposed to them, but as to how I got into them...
Well, years after I first saw them and started liking them, I sorta rediscovered the toy aisle at the store, and fell in love with Monster High. I started modding them, enjoyed the repaints... So I started thinking about dolls again, feeling like I had the confidence for a face up.... and after I won a 50 dollar gift card in an unrelated contest, I bought an obitsu. And after getting the obitsu, I started to think heeeeyy, maybe I CAN afford resin.

      So I ordered Florian.

      The end. ^_^

    20. My girls and I saw several people walking around with BJDs at an Anime con a couple of years ago. These dolls stayed in our thoughts and then we had the opportunity to enjoy some similarly jointed dolls (off topic here) and seen the great potential for fun with them. Now we are branching out and exploring the BJDs and already have our favorites picked out.
