What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I think it was about three years ago I was looking on DA and saw a Volks bjd . I remember loving it because I had just started getting into anime a few years before. :)

    2. It was YOUTUBE and was totally out of nowhere. I was subscribed to a youtuber who's video was about weird hobbies and in them she said she never expected to get into dolls at all, then she mentioned the type of doll "Asian Ball Joint Dolls" after that I started searching for them and found them kinda creepy but for some reason couldn't stop searching for them until finally I decided to get one because the more I search the more I really really liked them.

    3. I was browsing DA one day, many years ago, and came across these beautiful dolls. I knew instantly that I had to get one as I fell in love with how creative someone can be with these dolls and started researching the hobby. I also love anime which I think is another reason why I adore these dolls. I got my first bjd recently and plan on expanding my family soon :)

    4. I was at an anime convention with a friend and we spotted some people with interesting dolls. We went closer to investigate and immediately became hooked! It was still a few years before I got one though. :)

    5. I found abjds by my friend, who was browsing the dolls all the time. My first genuine love was for Luts Super Senior Delf Regen, the head I own now. It used to be my friends, and I couldn't stop looking at it every time I had a choice. When I heard she is selling it, I was first on the line. : 3 By that time I already had my first doll, Dollzones 1/3 Cloud, ts. I still love Regen (Yukio), but Cloud (Aidan) has takn my heart for good. I just love everything about that doll. :p Now I can't stop wanting more. I remember to remind my friend how it's her fault I don't have money. : D But I wouldn't change a day.

    6. My boyfriend got me into them. He had some. And I just...fell in love with them. He's taught me so much about them!

    7. I've known about BJDs for a few years now, but until maybe last year in the fall I went to an Anime convention and saw them in real life. They were better looking in real life then photos, so I finally bought my first one and have been into them since :)

    8. At one of the first anime conventions I attended there were people carrying them around and my friend and I had to investigate and were quickly fascinated by them. If I remember there was a vendor there selling them but at the time I didn't have enough with me to buy one for myself as tempting as it was at the time, but that was back in '08. I did a bit of research on them but nothing extensive, but they were always at the back of my mind because I truly did like them and was just one of those things I wanted to get into eventually once other things slowed down. Also being able to afford them was a big point as well.

It wasn't until the last couple months of 2011 that I started to look into them much more extensively. I needed a hobby that would get me involved enough that it didn't seem like so much of my time was being wasted in boredom. I was easily sucked back in by my previous fascination with them and soon enough made my first doll order.

    9. 4 years ago at the horror movie of the Doll Master.... >.< great movie except for the brutality content,... then as i browsing in a second hand book store i found Hautte doll magazine ^.^ with all the sites they provided i become addicted hehehe

    10. The first time I ever saw a BJD was on someone's personal blog. This was back in 2004, and it was a photo of a Volks SD Nono that this girl had just bought and made an adorable dress for. I had never seen anything like it and instantly fell in love.

At the time I was still in high school and didn't have a job, so I couldn't afford a doll of my own. I decided to save up for one. I kept whatever money I earned from odd jobs or received as gifts in a coffee can under my bed labeled "Doll Funds". I think my mom found all the bookmarked links to doll blogs and Volks photo galleries on our computer and had probably spotted the can, because on my 18th birthday she presented me with my very own Dollfie Dream. I had no idea and was totally and completely surprised. That is how my love for BJDs began!

    11. About two years ago my friend showed me some pictures of the DOD dolls which I thought were beautiful. I checked out their website to admire them but eventually I forgot about them. Then last September while at an anime convention I saw a girl walking around with one and I asked about it. After getting home I looked up tons of info about them and that November I ordered my first doll, an msd I named hiro ^.^

    12. Just being on dA for me. I'd find a TON of pictures of BJDs and I LOVED them! I always thought they were porcelin, though, so I avoided buying them! Then one day someone told me they were Resin and I was happy and bought one !

    13. I had seen them online for a year or so, and they fascinated me. I thought that they were beautiful. But it truly started when I met one of my friends who has a bunch of BJDs, and seeing them in person I was so taken by them I knew I needed one, they were just so beautiful, had so much personality, I loved how customizable they were, and also the oufits they had were fun, and thus, got me into the hobby!

    14. Deviant Art ^^

    15. I saw a Luts doll on DA (can't remember which sculpt or the member's name, sadly) and did some more research on Luts. I really wanted to get one of their dolls, but my parents wouldn't buy it for my birthday. In retrospect, it was probably for the best, as I would have had no idea about the potential dangers of resin or about the proper materials to use for a face-up. Several years later after I got married, I saw another doll on DA and started doing more research, then learned much more about the different companies out there and finally got my first BJD in November. :)

    16. I was very against BJDs from the beginning. I thought it was an annoying fad and became very tired of all the pictures running around on DA. When my fiance became interested in this, I tried to remain quiet but I was against it. However, as soon as I held Lenka for the first time in my arms, I felt this void I had been carrying filled. After a lot of research with and without my fiance, I decided I want one as well. <3 Little Finch and Connor are the light of my life.

    17. I had a passing interest for a while. Then I met my friend Adalaire, who has 30 on-topic BJDs. She takes immaculate care of them and they are amazing. So I dove in to the subject, doing tons of research. I learned about prominent BJD companies, how long they've been around, how they worked. But I was still blown away by the cost. Then I discovered Dollfies on the Volks website. I thought I'd found my solution. They were small, affordable, and from one of the biggest BJD companies in existence. I bought one, and named her Newbie. Naturally, it wasn't until afterward that I found she wasn't even considered a BJD, but I loved her so much, I didn't care. And that's how it started.

    18. I was looking for asian traditional outfits for an illustration I was working on, so I came across this chinese shop called 'China Cart', which made clothes for human but their models were bjds, and so, I started looking for this dolls (I didn't even knew how they were called) and basically that's it, so here I am:lol:

    19. I've seen BJDs floating around online for years and years now, but I never really paid huge amounts of attention to them. I always saw them and thought they were really cool (sometimes I did the double-take, 'wait is that a human or a doll?'). I guess I never thought they were something I could own...like they were super-special and you couldn't just buy one, they had to be designed and made by yourself or something. Don't ask me why because I don't know, maybe I was subconsciously just thinking of them like any other art work. A while ago, a friend 'reminded' me about the dolls and I went off to Google and was pleasantly disabused of such a silly notion. Then I got unexpected graduation money and all was well in the world. :)

    20. I was a member of the aarinfantasy forum and someone made a thread about male dolls and I saw Dream of Doll's BJDs...and 3 months later I had my first BJD <3 it's the perfect hobby for me, dolls have been my obsession since then =D
