1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Some random google search, I came across the image of a BJD on some blog (one of DoD's promotional photos) and followed the link to the DoD website. Originally I was completely confused as to what they were, but there was this sort of "gotta learn more" impulse from the start.

    2. Way back in 2005 I found Luts, but quickly dismissed it because of the price. Skip ahead to 2009, I found BJDs on DA. I believe the first owner I saw was Onnawufei. I was in looooove~! lol ^_^

    3. Believe it or not, it was a thread on another forum I read about how creepy dolls are! xD I was fascinated.

    4. My friend started showing me her collection and I just wanted one from there! I had seen them before but never face to face! they are gorgeous!!

    5. I saw them on the internet 10 years ago. My sister showed me links of it. Back then, Volks was the only one around that is quite prevalent. I even remember going to HongKong and seeing the shop with a catalouge of heads. I even saw the vampire dolls with all that shiny leather. I make comics, and one of the SD13 sculpts look like my character. I never did get the chance to buy one of them. I'm glad though since my taste for dolls has gone to the more realistic.

    6. I love all dolls, the bjds have realism. They are great to modify by changing the face up, can't do that with bisque antique dolls.

    7. I saw pictures of bjds on deviantart and really loved the look of them. I am an avid manga reader and bjds look like well designed anime characters. I also really like how movable and customizable they are.

    8. I think it was last winter when i wa slooking for a doll as a gift for my 9 year old daughter for christmas, and came across Ellowyne Wilde, who are kinda ball jointed i guess, and i had never heard of that before, so i started googling, saw some absolutely breathtaking photos on flickr and fell instantly in love and lust.....

    9. I saw them at a convention (my 1st AX, 06) and thought they were ...nice. then I met a girl (and later her friends) that had them. at first I thought they were embarrassing and weird, and then she won her 1st Yo and then I thought they wernt that bad (and not as hard to sherpa around). that girl(whom I was briefly engaged to), and the next girlfriend were the only BJD owners I've dated (tho the 2nd was rather out of the hobby, but had like 10 dolls), the 1st was really supportive of me hanging out with the Yos. by the time we broke up I'd ordered my Yo Boy! I eventually bought a Yo girl off her as well. I still dont like other sizes much.

    10. So my Mamaw collects dolls and she wanted to give a few to my dad to sell (they were not BJDs) because he was having some financial trouble so while I was looking for the dolls and how much they were selling for, I ended up on Denver Doll's site. I was very curious about the other things on the site so I looked around and saw the word BJD. I had never known or heard BJD before so I looked at the dolls and fell instantly in love with their beauty. And it went from there! Now I am looking for my first doll! (still) xD

    11. My partner, who is also a DoA member and a much more experienced collector than myself, got me into it. I absolutely fel in love with his BJD's and my own is soon to arrive.

    12. A friend of mine had linked me the Dream Of Doll website years and years ago. I was fascinated at looking at them, but never thought I'd actually own a doll :P

Then, friends of mine who collect other things started getting into them, and the love returned...but again, never thought I'd actually spend the money on one, since I was perfectly happy looking at them.

But then I saw miss Pong Pong from Fairyland and my heart was captured. I HAD TO HAVE HER. My mother got her for a birthday gift and from then on, I was hooked. Now I spend hours looking at the dang things. hahaha.

    13. It started with Blythes. I bought one to customise, then more followed. Then a pullip arrived. It was while I was looking at customised Pullips that I discovered the world of BJDs. I would love an elegant female doll to be my painting muse, but with all the choice out there, I think it may tale me some time!

    14. First it was Haute Doll, but while lovely, they seemed way too pricey. Then I went off to a week long re-enacting event and two folk there had them. I was positively gobsmacked!
Next step: I searched ebay and even lost on an AI, but collected manufacturers' names and started hunting web sites. Since this was several years ago, not many came up, but Luts did. My first BJD, a Lishe arrived a few months later. Now Katja is the first of a family of 10.

    15. A customer came into our engineering shop and was talking to a colleague about her website and her dolls (she was making her own). I asked her what kind of doll was she making and she said a BJD. I had no idea what she was talking about so googled it. That following weekend I spent all weekend on the internet learning as much as I could and just trying to get my head around the different sizes and all the different companys. There are very few people in NZ who have them let alone know anything about them. My interest was to make clothes for them but when I found the doll I wanted I just fell in love with her. I was blown away by the prices of them but was absolutely determined to get one - three months later and my girl arrived and I am still trying to make clothes that fit her properly - large bust! Now I am waiting for her prince.

    16. dA is actually how I discovered them to. Though I am a doll lover and was naturally curious, I didn't fall absolutely in love with them until I started looking at BJD company sites and found my dream doll(Ringdoll Spencer). :D

    17. I did a search on google on kodona clothing for a sewing project and stumbled upon a picture, where two BJDs were sitting in said kodona inspired outfits (it's from 2008 and you can still find it via google). I first thought this to be just some OOAK dolls but soon found out about BJDs. ^^

    18. For me, I've always liked dolls so... However, I'm very picky with more realistic kinds of dolls...which I suppose is a good thing due to their prices. At the moment, I only have one BJD, but there's at least 2 others I'd have liked to have gotten--unfortunately, I missed them both :(

    19. As a kid, I loved porcelain dolls. I have 14 in my room. Then when I got to college, I met a friend who collected BJD's, she showed me many pictures. I loved the fact that you can pose them any way you want, and they are all so pretty! :)

    20. i saw them at an anime convention, ppl were carrieing them and junkyspot was there..i fell in love
