1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Their Poseability, the fact you can change their wig and eyes, customise their faces... All the things I didn't have with my dollies when I was a child

    2. Danny Choo :)

    3. A friend of mine when I was 13 years old introduced me to the hobby. She had a Fairyland Doll. I believe it was one of the early Fairyland dolls? Not sure which one, but it interested me and I immediately started to fall in love with them. But seeing as I came from such a poor background, I was unable to get a doll. Since then, I had kept up with Fairyland, viewing updates and such, and finally, I was given a Pukifee Ante as a gift from my Me-maw. :) Now, I love this hobby and hope to have a whole family of dolls from Fairyland! :D

    4. I started with play dolls (Gotz, American Girl), then moved to Tonner and Kish dolls which are vinyl ball-jointed dolls. I loved how much more interesting it was to take photos of them. I had never liked BJDs before, but started looking at Iplehouse and Fairyland dolls and in the end ordered a LittleFee. Since then I couldn't stop and now have 13 BJDs. Though I still continue playing with and making clothes for my other non-BJD dolls. So, BJDs are just a small part of my collection, though a thrilling one.

    5. My mom was into collectable barbies and just barbie in general. I first saw bjd's in highschool, but they were more anime looking. Still cool though, and I went to my first anime convention at 16. That is were I saw a couple booths with dolls of different types. Ones I could relate too much better then the anime like ones my friends had. I wanted one so bad ever since. lol

Took me several years, and well into my late 20's before I actually got my first. lol

    6. Like many, I ran across many pics of BJD's on DA. I thought they were gorgeous <3 ! But I never in my life thought on owning one, and not because of the price (at the time I didn't even know they were so expensive !) A friend got into the doll hobby and I just fell completely in love with her dolls and that's when I knew I had to have one.

    7. Oddly enough...Pullip dolls did. I saw them and fell in love. But then I was googling Pullips and came across a ball jointed doll. I fell more in love and that's the doll I ended up buying. xD I actually went through an ignorant phase when I thought that Pullips were a type of BJD. Gawsh...was I ever that young? hehe

    8. It was my fiancee who got me into the hobby! I'd had friends online and in person who had dolls but they never really interested me much. I mean, I always thought they were pretty, but I'd never even thought about owning one.
Seeing my fiancee get so excited just rubbed off on me and I started getting excited for her dolls. I kept saying, "Oh, eventually," and "Oh, someday," but I'd still never thought I'd actually own one. I went into the Volks store with her, and I saw one of the molds and just... fell in love. My fiancee ordered her for me as my birthday present. Then I was browsing dolls online, just to look, and I found my boy and, again, I just fell in love. I thought and thought about whether or not I should get him (because I had the money, but that was a lot to drop -- at least for me!), and then I broke down and gave in. My dolls are very precious to me now and I don't want to think about giving them up, ever. I've also gotten into making doll jewelry because of owning them, and have made some nice accessories for my girl and boy.

    9. I always like dolls so when I saw bjds I really wanted it because some of them look like anime characters and I like that.

    10. A highschool friend of mine bought one from Dream of Doll, she lent me the site and ogled at it for hours, the thought of buying one at that time seemed impossible with the allowance given every month but years later, its getting closer and closer XD

    11. As so many people here I first saw a picture on DA. It was a Doll In Mind doll so I first thought they were the only company selling bjds. But I found more pictures of other dolls and I couldn´t stop thinking of buying one (although the price shocked me the first time :)) so it didn´t took much time until I ordered a doll :)

    12. My older sister heard about them and started showing me the company websites. When she got a BJD, I loved all the idea of being able to customise a doll to be exactly how I wanted it and the posebility made me think of the posibilities of improving my photography.

    13. Well it was originally the photos I saw of them on DeviantArt. And then as I learned more about them it was the fact that you can customize them that got me hooked. <3

    14. 2 years ago, I think, I was looking for some patterns or tutorials for do a felt plush and I cross with some handmade BJD, and later minifees... And here I am! Hahahaha

    15. Actually, cos-play dolls. I learned about them because of the anime-ish side of BJD's. I was probably browsing anime and game fan-art, or googling something general about the characers; I stumbled upon a Shido from Nightwalker, and Kuja from Final Fantasy IX yeeears ago.. I vowed I'd find out about those dolls -someday-. It's someday now and I'm so happy! haha.

    16. When I was 14 I saw my first BJD, it was this beautiful Sephiroth doll that my friends older sister had. I forgot them until I was sixteen and my friend showed me her two DoC dolls. That's when I found out what they were called. This year after not talking to the two people for a while I was looking for lolita clothing when I once again stumbled upon the hobby. I saved up for a while and now I've ordered my first BJD and I couldn't be happier.

    17. The fact that there wasn't a good figure of the character... XD Plus I love dressing him up.

    18. I was originally into garage (resin) kits.
Was in Tokyo last week and went into the Volks Showroom in Akihabara and first laid eyes on their Super Dollfies.
I attempted to purchase one of the one-off dolls that they had on display, only to be told that it was already sold.
So I am still searching for my first BJD.

    19. My wish to bring my D&D character to be more alive. Im still working on her tho :)

    20. I originally saw pictures of them on Deviantart and my interest was instantly sparked. What followed was hours of research on the internet and me gazing longingly at different company websites. I finally saved up enough money to purchase my own beautiful boy and I haven't looked back since.
