Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I was originally a pullip doll fan. One day, one of my pullip friend got a BJD doll ... I first thought it was an ugly doll ... haha
But then I saw some more on Flickr, and I totally fall in love with some of them.
After a year of searching, I finally found the fairyland company and bought myself a cutie ^.^

    2. I was originally a Pullip collector at first too, and one day while I was browsing the Pullip Style webpage I discovered the Ringdoll section. I didn't think much of it, but while looking at Pullip pictures on Google and dA I kept running across BJDs, and despite being creeped out at first, I couldn't stop thinking about them and how they looked so real! Pretty soon I was completely fascinated and knew I had to have one.

    3. I'm now searching for the "right" first doll. After about four or five years of teasing my aunt about her dolls I got interested too by looking at pics here on DOA over her shoulder. ^^. All the different looks and photos won me over I guess!

    4. I became interested in Bjds when I saw my friend's dolls in real life.

    5. humerously enough, I was surfing the web for fanart, and found Aimee's (now defunct?) fanart site, and followed site links and found he page about her dolls. Didn't realize this forum was here until much later.... most of my original info came from another site and later on Cassiel's awesome Volks directories

    6. I saw a really pretty model on someone's deviantart, performed a perfect double take when I realized it was a doll, and the rest was history. Also, the primary reason I despised barbies as a child was because they were unposeable, stupid-looking, and really cheapie in general. So my immediate reaction was 'omg detail omg wigs omg eyes wow wow'

    7. About a year back on deviantArt, someone's doll shot ended up on the Daily Deviations (?) bar on the bottom of the page. He looked really cool and though I don't believe I pursued to see what the doll was (aka learn about BJDs) the image certainly stuck with me. A few months later, something happened (not sure what) that pulled me full force into the hobby. I was looking at every sculpt companies made and planning out my doll family.

Soon, that dream will be realized. I sent the money in at last for my Luts Kid Delf Bory. He will be my secondhand baby and the first official doll (Chance doesn't count since all I have is her wig).

    8. I've been a member of dA for a really long time and I came across some amazing photo's of dolls. I'm not really into dolls but seeing that these were more..realistic, customization is a BIG plus for me and I loved the photo's, I'd done some research and eventually became hooked. Upon seeing the prices, however, I was a bit turned off, but that was a few years ago when I was young, still in school and jobless. Now things are a bit different, and I still want one more than ever. Lets say my hands aren't far away from grasping my first resin XD

    9. The Doll Master. Lovely movie!

    10. I originally saw BJD's at an anime convention and I seriously thought they were the creepiest, weirdest thing I'd ever seen and wanted nothing to do with them...

When I went home though and was going through pics from the con, my mom had snapped a few of the dolls and upon further inspection I decided they WERE kind of pretty, in a creepy way. My curiosity was going now though, so I had to look them up and BAM I was hooked. I was floored when I found out how expensive they were and was going to just make one originally since I've always been really into clay works.

I never would have believed it but, I now own 2 girls and am finally working on making one of my own (now that I have some practical examples of how they work).

    11. I think I was first exposed to BJDs via Danny Choo and his Dollfie Dreams. I thought they were pretty cool and decided to do some more research. I eventually ended up on DA and Flickr where I saw some beautiful resin boys and fell in love. Fast forward 3 or 4 years and I'm currently awaiting my first boy, due to arrive in February!

    12. I surfed dA a lot when I was younger, and slowly I stumbled upon BJDs at first when I saw then I thought they were real people, but then a few years later, I researched them and well, here I am now, an addict who looks looking at others dolls while saving for her own xD

    13. HZ Uniform Designs!! I thought that they were from an anime or something so I looked everywhere but found out they were a type of doll. Then I figured out they were doll clothes and then looked up the dolls and what kind they were and fell in love!! One day I hope to own an HZ.

    14. What got me into bjd's was kinda a accident lol. What happened was I had a anime doll. I went online to search for another or a more shapely like doll.(side note: I did like barbie dolls as a kid but I just hated how they were shaped.) So I searched online for anime dolls. I ended up finding Dream of Doll. I saw a Tender E-an and I so so wanted her. Then I searched and searched for more about bjds. I found this forum but did not make a account. I looked at photos around the net. The more I saw the more I learned the more I wanted a bjd of my own. So that set me into getting in this hobby.

Now finely after all these years I am so close to getting my Tender E-an home. My first bjd. (I planed that she will be my first. So I held my self off from getting any other doll.)

    15. I googled "JRock" and ended up finding a picture of Luts' CP Delf Shiwoo instead. I had to click the link (so beautiful!) and there I found Luts' site. I checked it often over the years it took me to finally buy my El in '06.

    16. It was after I watched the movie The Doll Master. I was young when I watched it and it scared the hell out of me but it didn't stop my curiosity about them. I searched the internet and found more dolls on DA. So I did more research, found websites and DOA, and a few years after, I got my first bjd.

    17. I've always loved dolls, and dolls keep getting better. Over the years I went through a progression of collecting Gene dolls, Fashion Royalty, Pullip, Sybarite, Tonner, and finally I got to bjds. At first I thought it would be creepy to have such a large doll, but after having Tonner size dolls a bjd didn't seem that much bigger. Now that I have an Iplehouse SID I've gotten used to it (his size did freak me out a little at first, though, and I'm truly afraid to show him to my friends who already think I'm crazy.)

I still have to get rid of all the other ones, though!

    18. My friend got me into BJD dolls a few years ago. I went over her house one day and found a cute BJD in her room sitting on the bed. I picked her up and she resembled an anime character with big eyes. Later I found out they called Dollfie Dream and I wanted one myself. I begin searching different BJD sites and even though the prices scared me a little I just couldn't stop my desire to own a BJD. I'm still looking for my first doll and saving up to get a luts boy doll name Regen.

    19. i'm not sure actually. i just remember stumbling across pictures of them on the internet a long while back and thinking how beautiful they were. i have always been a lover of dolls of any kind but these ones really looked very special to me.

    20. I saw one at an Anime Con and was hooked. I've lurked and hoped to get one ever since.
