1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I came across bjds on youtube/deviantart. I was watching videos about blythe, and there you know, the person also had a bjd. So I have an acount on deviantart, and I looked up bjds. That is how I came across this wonderful hobby.

    2. Believe me or not, but it was in a way my goth friend Daniel. When I just moved over to five years ago he introduced me to a Russian band Otto Dix. It was this song that started my interest in the hobby. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc5AQDjI_h0 As well as pictures of bjd's in the video, the lyrics of the song had a lot to do with love towards a doll. They got my heart instantly and so I just had to get one. Aharon joined me two years ago and is still with me. I'm glad to be part of this.

    3. I saw them at an anime convention and was just sort of drawn to them. It took years for that idle curiosity to turn into a serious interest, but here I am. Now fully immersed in the hobby.

    4. I was always looking for more "realistic" action figures - so playarts from SquareEnix, Figma from GoodSmile. Then someone on DA had customised a small obitsu into one of the characters that I knew hadn't been commercially manufactured. From there I spotted a Soom on DA and began googling... That was in 2006...

    5. If I remember right, I was with my friend looking around for somes lolita outifs and ideas for our meeting. We looked around a lolita blog and she was posting pictures of her BJD's. My friend and I was like ''OMG, WHAT IS THAT BEAUTY ?!''. After that, we started to look around BJD's company and I wanted one since this day. It's around 3 years ago. Finally, I have my boy ♥ I hope my friend can have one too :3

    6. I had seen pictures but I did not know what is was. Later I saw some clothing for BJDs on a Lolitashop. I did not know and I was what the hell 70 dollar for a doll... Than mush later I was searching on the internet and I found a dollshop who sold Pullip. I felt in love ^^ I wanted to know more before I bought one because I just wanted one doll in my life haha. So I joined a local BJD community who advised me to buy a BJD instead. I thought Pullips where a lot prettier, but befor I bought one I went to a convension and there I saw bought BJDs and Pullips I fel in love with BJD :fangirl:

    7. Everyone here loves these dolls obviously, but I'm really curious to see how everyone found the hobby and what were your first impressions?

My hubby showed me a Chiwoo head that he owns a few years ago and I thought that it was one of the cutest things I had ever seen. I never really thought I would be getting into the hobby until I started looking at the Luts site and falling in love with multiple dolls. At that point I knew I had to have one, so I started saving for one.

I recently received my first doll, which is a beautiful woosoo, and now I have dolly fever. I want so many accessories for my baby and to take a million pictures of him.

So like I asked before, how did you get into the hobby?

    8. My sister got me started with off-topic dolls, which are a gateway drug. Then I met my Aunt's bjds, and absolutely fell in love with her RS Long. Then, after much agonizing, many internal debates, and repeatedly asking my Mom what she thought, I bought one myself.

    9. I remember running into the Luts site by accident on Google. I clicked it out of curiosity and, well...I fell in love! I was a little surprised at the price, but nearly right after, I put together a little chart of how long it would take for me to save up for one. For my first impression of the dolls, I thought they were really beautiful.

    10. Well..I guess it was this Geisha Doll my Aunty kept at my grandparents, all we knew was it was very very old and potentially quite expensive.
I used to stare at her every day I visited, wondering how something so pretty could be made by hand.
A few years ago in attempts to find history on her Geisha I stumbled across an image of a doll called Rei....a heavily modded Zaoll Basic Luv doll but at the time I had no idea what she was, what company, I was just stuck staring at her like I had with My Aunts Geisha...I left it alone though but the thought niggled at my mind until almost 2 years ago now, I looked it up, found out about BJD's and have been doing my homework on them/saving up for one ever since to now, in just a few weeks I will finally have my first ever BJD! :celebrate
      I'm so excited!!

    11. I hearing about them in passing but was told they were very expensive, so I never really investigated it until my friend
,knowing my addiction to big doll ,told me about Iple dolls))
In that day I visited they website and on the next day of the order Carina :)

    12. For me it was clicking on a web advertising to Junkyspot and looking at the dolls. . . It took me like a year to build up the courage to invest, but when I did... Boy did I jump in deep. My poor bank account!

    13. I collected Pullip and Blythe and through those communities saw BJD. I thought they looked cool but didn't think I needed one at first. Then I had to see them in person and bought one, and they gradually became my main doll focus.

    14. Whoa me too! I discovered them from the front page of DeviantArt, and I saw there for a few days maybe even weeks. I didn't know if it was a picture or a painting so I clicked it and did more research because I didn't understand how a doll could be so life like a customized.

    15. I would see them on Deviant Art once in awhile, but never took the time to look into what they were. Until I finally got overly curious. I've been obsessed with them ever since.

    16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kp5fdlBpC0 Angelic Layer...I finished the series in one night after I got the boxset for Christmas and I wanted my own angel...I searched Angelic Layer on DeviantART and saw an Obitsu customized as Hikaru and I HAD to have a doll that I could make all my own...My own Angel but then I got my girl...And she was NOT an angel...She was just..Haruka.

    17. I was looking at Chobits cosplay stuff on Ebay back in 2005 and I saw this AMAZING doll made by a company called Volks, and she looked just like Chii. I started looking into what kind of dolls these were, and eventually found DOA and then all was lost. ;D

    18. Hmmmm
I have a good friend who had another friend who would take her doll everywhere she went- and I saw how cool this guy was! She told me all about how you can customize everything in the doll, and its made by these artists who take lots of time and care to make each one, and I was floored at the craftsmanship.
I didnt seriously start considering getting one until later- I didnt have a job in high school so it was really out of the question. But I think I saw someone on DA bring up that they or a friend were selling an old BJD off, and I got interested again. I joined DOA and peer pressure got to me ^ ^
My first 2 dolls are going to be based on OCs of mine.

    19. I received a catalog with Pipos Baha and Heero in it, and my sister and I feel in love with their sweet faces and how they looked so alive when posed.

    20. I just stumbled upon photos of BJDs and decided to do more research!
