1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. It's all started with picture of miniature clay. I keep on searching for that but stumble to Pullips and Dal and started to collect them but only four months from that my cousin show me picture of bjd (Lati Yellow) she would like to get and I am still saying nah.. It's way to expensive for me and I rather stay with Pullips and Dals but who know from that moment I keep on looking on flickr for picture of Lati Yellow and fell in love with it. Could not just looking and ordered on December :D I also just getting one from MP and I think there will be more than two latis now :D

    2. A friend of mine bought the Cyber Bohemian Shiwoo and I thought he was one of the most fascinating things I had seen. We had never really talked about dolls before, but it definitely got my interest quickly.

    3. It's when I was searching for pictures of a specific comic (which I still kept them at home), and I found a site that has BJD's pictures inside...then I am here! I still remember that doll's name is Ceylon and he is DOD-TOO. Thanks for the comic that brought me into the BJD world. I am so grateful that I can meet with these cute little dolls in my life and also my friends.

    4. My sister got me into the hobby. It took ages, though. In the beginning, I thought they were weird and that she was a bit odd for liking them so much... :doh

    5. I found out about them while I was in the pixel doll community a few years ago. One of the other forum member had started doing face-ups and posting the results, and I was intrigued.
I've always loved dolls though, so I think it was bound to happen eventually.

    6. I don't remember why but I saw a picture of pukifee ante (I still have that picture saved from 2009 T^T) but I didn't know what it was or the name, I tried searching "dolls" but I couldn't find her, I found the word dollfie though and from that I read the word bjd somewhere and that people used to called every bjd dollfie and that is wasn't correct etc.. then I found luts website and some of my favorite dolls *__* and after some time I finally landed to fairyland and discovered realpukis!
sometimes I think it would be better if I never found that picture!

    7. I never liked dolls as a child, hating the fact that all you could change was their clothes, and anytime you tried to do anything else to them they would be destroyed.

I first discovered the hobby through a dear friend of mine, who loved bjds and had just gotten her first doll. When I saw the prices, I immediately decided to drop the idea of getting one. A year later they were still on my mind, so I decided to order my first doll from Custom House. I love her, and I just ordered my second doll last week (this one being a Doll Chateau Ada).

    8. I just saw pictures of them on the internet and fell in love with them .

    9. I clearly remember trying to find wooden puppets along the lines of what I saw in the film 'Being John Malkovich'...I came across a picture (which I am almost 100% certain was of one of Zagzagael's Dollshe Saint boy's, as he had long black hair and wings) and just had to find out more. And thus, a hobby was born!^^

    10. I saw them at anime cons and I wondered what they were and kinda fell in love and I searched and searched never to find out what they were and so one day about 5 months later I was surfing YouTube for anime makeup tutorials and found how to make yourself look like a doll and so I watched the whole thing and at the end there was her saying this is a bjd and holding one and then it all clicked in my brain and I immediately looked them up and came across box openings and fell in love with the ears of the resinsoul mei, I waited a whole year to buy her but now she's home and my precious princess I saved from a castle in my mind and so I'm sooooo happy to have found her and have her she's my baby her name is thora

    11. I wanted to sew doll clothes for my granddaughter who lived 1300 miles away. I needed a 15" baby doll to use as a model. Looking for one of those, I found the 18" play dolls, which led me to jointed 18" play dolls, which led me to Wilde Imagination & 16" jointed dolls. Then my husband asked me where I intended to put all those giant dolls. That led me to Amelia Thimble and eventually to Bobobie tiny elfkins, and now yo-sd's. So I can thank my 6-year-old granddaughter for getting me into BJD's, right? :)

    12. I have always been a collector even when I was super young collecting cards, tazos etc. When I was in high school I started collecting buffy figures and statues and whilst looking in a hobby shop came across living dead dolls which I loved and am still obsessed with. I then actually accidentally came across BJD's while searching the internet for horror dolls and reborn dolls just out of interest and once I saw BJD's and did a little research, I bought my first one about 4-5 years ago now and have never looked back :)

    13. I like cosplaying and when Id look up pictures of otter cosplayers I would also come across lolitas holding these amazing dolls and looked them up and I fell in love with there whole customization aspect. Especially since it was a new way to artistically express myself more.

    14. Ohh, this!

Around 2005 or 2006, I was online and I googled something, clicked the wrong link, and ended up at someone's dolly site! She had an F-16 Volks sculpt named Sadame, and I loved him! He was my first sculpt crush. I loved how customizable BJDs were, and how many uses you could find for them (you could practice sewing, costume design, drawing for proportions, painting/faceups, photography, bringing your OCs to life) and of course, how gorgeous they were! I looked at the Volks website for a while, then discovered Luts, then DoD, then it expanded rather quickly from there. ^^

    15. When I was younger I discovered RealPuki’s from Doll Fairyland. I of course had no idea how to actually buy something online or the money to buy one!

And over the past few years I’ve come across some amazing ones on DA but didn’t have the means to buy one. And then just this past January I was looking around and I ran into Dreamhighstudio and found out that their dolls were very limited in numbers and I saw one I liked and I kind of panicked (because I didn’t want her selling out) and so I jumped and that’s really what got me to actually start looking around every where. Now I’m waiting for my second girl to come in soon :D

I’m also someone who will walk around the store for FOREVER deciding if I want to buy one thing and then I put it back because I decided not to lol so I guess what pushed me was the limited number so I can maybe thank DHS for that lol

    16. I first saw pictures of BJD's on Deviantart, but I never knew exactly what they were. I just thought they were pretty dolls. Eventually I found out what they were but I was not interested in getting one. Slowly over a couple years I found out more and more about them. Especially recently I've been researching the whole BJD concept through youtube and various forums. I also saw more and more gorgeous dolls on Deviantart and wanted one for myself. Soooo now I'm here drooling over even more gorgeous dolls and I'm saving up for one, hopefully ill get my own soon :aheartbea

    17. I have liked anime and manga for a long time, and found bjds through that.

I was quite stunned by the price tag at first and thought "no way am I spending that much on a doll!"... but over time I came to admire them and believe they are worth the price. Anime and manga is still my primary interest, bjds are a secondary hobby, but I am happy to own them. :)

    18. Definitely all the beautiful photos I saw on DA. BJDs are a hobby I save carefully for, but they're worth the wait!

    19. My sister showed me pictures of them on DA, and I couldn't stop looking. She thinks I'm crazy for actually saving up and buying one, but I'm happy and that's what matters!

    20. I collect other dolls, happened to see the pictures of Fairyland's Dark Elf Soo (littlefee size) when browseing DDE's website and fell in love. Eventually I got my DES and after a little while, discovered more BJDs I adored... I've pretty much stopped collecting any other dolls now. ;) Mind you, those off-topic doll collections were fairly complete by this point!
