1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I randomly stumbled upon a picture of a Unoa Lusis around late 2003 then started researching and fell in love with Dream of Doll and their DoC Yen half a year later. It took me several years of researching on and off and a lot of coercing towards myself to finally bite the bullet and take the plunge however.

    2. I was wandering around youtube and came across a video on making a bjd, the more I looked around the more interested I got. I then looked around deviant art and just fell for them. I found my way on to fairyland and it was game over - In the space of three days I went from not even knowing bjds existed to paying out over $500 and ordering. I have always loved dolls but never this much. I have only been in the hobby a few months but have ordered a second doll and am ordering a third in two weeks.

    3. a friend of mine brought hers to an event and I fell in love with them

    4. In 2010 browsing fashion and sewing blogs, I stumbled on a photo showing a BJD. I checked on the internet for several months before finally ordered my first doll: an AIL Aya (I've had a small family of resin which now has 7 members to date)

    5. A friend of mine introduced me to them. I watched her go through the whole process of shopping around and buying her first two dolls, and at first I was like, 'Uh, why?' I didn't really get it... But then when I saw her two boys in person, I just had this moment where it clicked for me and I completely fell in love. I was totally enamored with the feeling of resin, the delicate faceups, everything, and I just had to get my own.

Now it's like my #1 hobby. :D I can't stop browsing and working on my one boy.

    6. - Started out looking for my childhood MLP on ebay
      - found OOAK customised ponies
      - became member on MLP website and took up customising
      - out came MH Dolls, started customising them too
      - other MH doll fans had BJD's too and saw a few cute ones in the MLP forum
      - did some digging around on the internet and found fairyland
      *died from cuteness*

    7. I saw one at a convention I was at. Then, later, I saw a few online. I couldn't shake the thought of having one myself because of all the possibilities they presented. Finally I was able to get one several years later and have never turned back.

    8. I saw them on the internet a few years ago but didn’t know what they were and didn’t really think about them. Then recently my friend in college showed me a picture of one (with jointed hands) I was really interested but didn’t want to ask her what they were. Then a while after that I asked and she showed me the websites that sell them, she wanted one but could not justify the money. A few months later I now know more about this hobby than her and we’re both eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first doll! J

    9. I first saw BJDs on deviantART probably 4-5 years ago, and came across them on a few different avatar sites.

But I didn't really seriously get into them until my best friend got her first doll, and then I started attending doll meets.

Now I'm hooked! Just got my very first one on Monday ^^

    10. I have only recently came across BJD's on other doll forums....at first I wasn't keen on them but the more I looked at them, the more I grew to love them :D I collect full size baby dolls in silicone & resin but I can see my collection changing direction because of the BJD's :)

    11. I was on Facebook and someone posted a picture of a Pipos anthro bunny. I love animals and I was like "what is that??" So I looked it up and saw that it was called a BJD. From there, I went on other websites and found the human ones. They just pulled me in, I think they are so beautiful! I want an anthro one at some point (most likely a cat) but the ones I want are sold out so I'm going to wait to see if I come by a second hand one.

    12. Everyone I know has tons of barbies. I wanted something different for my daughter, a doll that could turn into a hobby that we would share (crafting, making outfilts, taking pictures, etc.). Eventually a friend of mine introduced me to the BJD, she had a few little ones, some with cat faces (puki puki or zuzu delf), they were adorable ! But too small for my project.

Then, at Montreal's anime convention, some very nice persons made a panel about BJD, and later my husband and I saw a few BJD besides lolitas in a room. We found information concerning Volks dolls, read Danny Choo's blog and eventually started the difficult process of choosing the ONE doll to rule them all...

    13. I was on a Tokio Hotel fan forum and I saw someone had Fairyland (I'm pretty sure?) dolls of the two main band members (Bill and Tom) and that got me started into looking into bjds. Then later on, I made another connection from a manga and the main character had sewn outfits for her doll. Wasn't sure if it was a bjd but I thought it was pretty close from my point of view and was all 'hey thats cool' so all the more pluses I got, got me to joining denofangels. :D

    14. Deviantart! I saw photos of these beautiful dolls and fell in love ever since.

    15. a really good friend got me into the hobby because she wanted someone to talk to about it and so she started telling me about them and I didnt understand so she showed me and I fell in love

    16. deviantArt! A few years ago, summer 2010ish, I think, *hiritai's pictures of Hayden (a Migidoll Ryu) kept making the front page. I fell in love with him and looked at BJDs from afar for quite some time...
In late 2012, while working on a novel, I decided to see if there were any "cheaper" dolls out there, which lead me to find 27cm Obitsus. So, not really BJDs, but close. Then I got my first BJD for X-mas in 2012 and now I'm firmly cemented in this hobby :)

    17. A girl shoved them to me when I was in about 7th or 8th grade, and I was fascinated with how pretty they were but no more than that. Now then years later, I 'found' them again and was again struct by how beautiful they were, but also how much they can be modified. It could be said that BJD hobby has everything I could dream of; painting, crafting, sewing... absolutely everything. Might have also been the fact that I now have my own characters and want to have a touchable version of them =v=;

    18. I don't remember the exact moment I found BJDs. It was probably through Manga and Anime, since I was real big into that around the same time. The doll that go me super interested in the hobby is the VOLKS Myu, who is absolutely gorgeous.

    19. I saw a littlefee ante on bearpicnic's blog and fell in love!

    20. I found them through a long process; I got into anime at some point, and while searching Google for random anime pictures one day, I came across Hatsune Miku, which led me to Vocaloids in general. After getting really into Vocaloid music, I discovered the Miku Figma by Max Factory, and snatched her up as soon as I found one for sale ^w^ Through Figmas and other anime figures, I ran across figure.fm, where I became and member and was introduced to the Volks "Dollfie" line of dolls. A little more research and I discovered BJDs, but I didn't buy my first one until several months after I met someone at camp one summer who also knew what BJDs were :3 I was amazed, as we lived about three hours from one another, in a state where there's very little...erm...variety...is a good way to put it. Not a lot of people here will break away from the interests/hobbies they were raised with, so to find someone else so close who knew about them was a huge shock!
