1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I was a hardcore fan of a band and then I saw somebody with these dolls customized as this band's members :) I wanted one the moment I came to see them and even more because they were little members of my -back then- fave band :D at the end I ended up making my own characters and I don't regret a single thing

    2. I was collecting model horses, and searched for jointed dolls. Then I saw images of BJDs and immediately fell in love with Homme Ducan. I got into BJDcollecstacy and while browsing company pages, I told myself for about one year that I really do not need such an expensive doll which is completely out of scale. Obviously, I failed. But I tried to keep my promise of "only one". Instead I gave up the model horses, invested into a girl friend for my resin man. She became pregnant and now a little girl arrived here (ah, just had to have her, she is the only cute one, except perhaps for Loki), Tony called over some friends from Asia (somewhere he found a mobile phone his size, really a bad thing), and now I am about completeting my personal group of favourite Avengers. Well, so much for "just one".

    3. Actually, it was on a board dedicated to a totally different hobby... Someone posted some random pics of a BJD-it was one of the older Luts sculpts, maybe an El or a Shiwoo... It was pale with bright blue eyes and dark hair, and I was in love. I had to find out what it was- I've always loved dolls, but never seen anything like it. So I entered the Luts website, and was blown away... Looking through all the different dolls, I ended up wanting a Dollshe Husky with long, brown hair and blue eyes.
The funny part is that I never ended up owning any of those dolls ;). And am not planning to. I've since discovered a world of BJDs I love even more.

    4. I saw these dolls on Deviant art in really awesome photos, but had heard they were expensive and knew I would never have the funds to get such a thing, so I simply observed them passively, but then at a local convention, I saw these four people carrying them around and went crazy. I was really excited to see them in person, and they even let me hold them! So we took some photos, then I actually ran into one of these people in one of my classes! So we talked about them and would look them up when we weren't working on assignments and I finally got one, thanks to her for telling me so much about them! Its so great, because now I have more friends, and a little resin one too!

    5. While cruising the net, I came across some Lasher dolls. They looked so different. I really liked the idea of being able to pose the dolls in so many ways. My first was "Dark Alice". Now I can't say how many I have. I still love my antique dolls, but they have had to move over for some very different BJDs.

    6. I've always liked dolls and figurines, and I've collected Pullips for a while. I learned about BJDs shortly after getting into Pullips, but for many years, no BJDs ever caught my eye; and given how expensive they can be, I didn't bother giving them a second thought. But one day I was perusing Luts' website for wigs and came across Senior Delf Karis, whose expression just absolutely captivated me, like he was peeking into my soul. That's when I got sucked into BJDs! (Karis wasn't the first BJD I bought, but he was my grail, and he just arrived two weeks ago. :aheartbea)

    7. About three years ago I somehow stumbled across some pictures of dolls online (I think they were Fairyland) and was smitten right away. I was worried what my husband might think, but surprisingly he thought they were really neat. We couldn't afford any at the time so I sort of gave up on owning any until I started making money from my own artwork then I was ably to finally get my first doll.

    8. When I was in collage I was in an anime club. One of the club members had a few Dollfie Plus dolls customized to look like her favorite characters. This led me to look up Volks, I saw the Super Dollfie line and was hooked. I didn't get my first doll until much later though due to finances.

    9. I got into Blythe last year, and at my first Dolly Meet, one of the members brought her Secret Doll Person. I didn't really like the doll at first, but now I adore them and am getting my first one this Sunday! I'm so excited. :)

    10. The first time I saw a BJD was the viedoclip of "Kerly"...but I never know how these dolls were called...After that i looks the film "Dollmaster" So I´m searched for years...
and last year I find a forum for these and other dolls...And now I´m a real BJD-Junkie:)

    11. The first time I ever saw these dolls, a friend of mine had a picture of DoD Sha, but the picture had been modded where I couldn't actually see the joints of the doll, and the website stamp had been taken off the picture. This upset me because I didn't know what they were, and neither did my friend. I tried for hours to find what these dolls were. After that I gave up because I was getting frustrated and didn't have time to waste looking them up.

A year later, I was on a forum board and someone posted another picture of DoD Sha, and Kirill. I spazzed out. I tried to get people to tell me what they were, and I never got an answer, but one of the pictures DID have a website! I was beyond excited about this, I went to the website and stared at all the dolls there, and worse yet, at the price. But though that I was able to find out what these dolls were called.

The sad thing for me was in fact the price, and the more research I did, the more depressed I got. One thing I had read in more then one place was. "If you are thinking these dolls are to expensive, this hobby is not for you." This upset me so much at the time. But I am glad I am a stubborn person. I have now been in this hobby for going on 7 years now. And I have no intention of stopping any time soon!

    12. Rozen Maiden :D
I was thinking, wouldn't it be awesome if someone made all the RM dolls as actual ball jointed dolls?
so I looked them up and now here I am, almost a year later, hooked. :D

    13. Omg I remember this pretty well.
I was 14 years old, in 8th grade and browsing Deviantart. Someone had their doll sitting an in scale skateboard.
I thought it was a real person until I clicked on it and whoo-boy, that's when the obsession began. Googling into the 20'th page of google results.
Endlessly scrolling through company sites and wishing I had that kind of money.
But alas, I didn't have a chance until this year, 3 years later.

    14. Er... I think, for me, that it just happened. I had seen bjd before on DA and knew what they were but never I could have never imagined, in a million years, that I'd buy one. Mostly because of the price and the remoteness of where I live but then... and to this day I don't know what happened, it began. I saw that one doll last november and I had to have her. For no reason. I just had to. Now I'm already planning the next, and the one after that... lol.

    15. I used to really like the Blythe dolls. Pullip dolls too. But I really lost interest in them, they were never different enough for me. I began seeing resin dolls, and I fell in love. I was intrigued by how many different sculpts there were, even if the prices bothered me for awhile. I didn't ever think I'd actually take the plunge into saving for one. Gorgeous, gorgeous dolls. I love seeing them, I'm absolutely in love with the hobby now.

    16. I don't remember exactly when I seen my first one. A friend of mine posted pictures of her dolls on her FB and when I seen them I was intrigued but didn't look into it further. About a couple months ago another friend of mine introduced me to them again and this time I knew I absolutely had to get one! I've always loved dolls, having a few AG dolls but nothing compares with BJDs :)

    17. Mostly lolita fashion and one of my clothes friends! I love to see the girls who have their dolls that resemble them!!! I want one, too!
Also I have been eyeballing one of my close friends dolls since she started collecting them years ago!
Somewhere in between, something just clicked.

    18. I checked out a graphic novel called Japan Ai from the library because the art was cute, and I'm always up for cute graphic novels. The book is about "a tall girl's adventures in Japan" and during her adventures she went to Tenshi no Sato...I was intrigued by the lovely illustrations and hearing about the 'welcoming ceremony' they perform there. I did a wee bit of research online about Tenshi no Sato and Volks, and thought the dolls were pretty, but I wasn't head over heels for them yet. About two years later I discovered I had subscribed to a few youtube channels back then (about dolls) and my love was rekindled. I'm now saving up for a Ringdoll Lucifer and expect to be in the hobby for a long long time! (o:

    19. I don't own a doll yet, but what got me interested are my friends. Several good friends of mine have dolls and they've always intrigued me. I like to sew and I think having a doll and sewing clothes for them would be just amazing. :) This hobby seems so intricate and I really want to be apart of it. Also, all of the people are so friendly and amazing. :)

    20. I've loved dolls since I was a kid, and I first discovered BJDs a few years ago through Volks. I fell in love with their anime-styled Dolfie Dream line, and from there I soon unearthed Luts, Iplehouse, Dream of Doll, and a few other companies whose sculpts I love. I just ordered my first doll, and I can't wait to bring her home. I really hope Michigan's customs procedure won't hold my girl hostage forever, though.
