1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. i like toys with joints in them. so when i found out about these life-like bjds. i was excited to buy them :)

    2. Deviantart user Pacthesis actually got me into them. She uploaded a picture of her Dollfie Dream Sasara, which made me curious about what those magical dolls were, which led me right into BJDs and all the things you can do with them.

    3. I was on a Lolita and dolls forum for the Lolita bit, but went to see what the doll bit does. Then, I was completely drawn to the beauty of BJD's.

    4. When a friend of mine convinced me to go to a BJD 101 panel at a con a few years back. I loved how customizable they were.

    5. I got into BJDs because of an article on a local magazine about Alodia Gosiengfiao's collection. It was around 2007, I think. I've only heard of Barbies (and other similar brands) back then. The size and details of her BJDs really fascinated me.

    6. I've been into anime for years but had never heard of bjds until I met my current boyfriend who is also an anime fan he's been working on bjds for years and since we've been together he's added 9 more dolls to his collection and I know have 5! I'm so glad he introduced me to this great hobby I love my kids! :aheartbea

    7. The MLP Arena XD

They have a big Monster High group there. I love MH dolls, but the QC and poor distribution of the dolls left me frustrated with the hobby, so I jumped ship and moved on to greener pastures. There were a few BJD collectors on there and some of them shared photos and a little information. I started with tinies to get my feet wet, but I quickly learned that SDs are where my heart lies after going to my very first local doll meet and seeing some SDs up close.

    8. It was a strange series of events.
A saw pictures of them back in 2008 but they were too cute and unrealistic, and I balked at their price coz I didn't have a job.
5 years later, I had a stable job and I had just been dealt a low blow with the announcement that the money-grubbing company, EA, was going to close down ALL their Playfish games on facebook. I was complaining full blast to my sister and in our heated exchanged, I declared I was never going to play another online game where I couldn't touch anything anymore. I was going to devote myself to my Alice in Wonderland collection.
I went online, typed in Alice in Wonderland, and the most gorgeous DollHeart outfits showed up. Needless to say I was instantly mesmerized. I promised myself I was going to get that outfit and the doll to go with it. So I hunted down the doll company that was modeling these clothes (FYI they were PeaksWoods), and ordered my first YOSD.
I did manage to get that Alice outfit as well. I also got the LUTS TDF Alice limited set so I'm quite content with my Alice in Wonderland doll collection.

Strangely, my tastes have completely changed after that. Now I have huge bulky male dolls in somewhat punk/steampunk clothes and my YOSD and tiny look really out of place with them.

    9. My older sister introduced me to BJDs. I bought my first doll second hand from her as well. It was really cool, and it's something we still share and enjoy together ^^

    10. I was into Lolita fashion and I came across some lolitas holding their BJDs in their pictures. I fell in love with the dolls at first sight and I researched them a lot. I wanted one right away. I ended up buying dolls instead of any lolita clothes for myself.

    11. Nameless Visual novel by Cheritz and crobidoll. It's a game you can buy and download from their site. It's about crobi dolls and I realised they were real and I neeeeeeed them. I unfortunately cannot afford them but I at least found the dolls I want and can.

    12. Originally, I'm a big fan of manga and novels because they give me inspiration to write story. One day, a friend sent me a link of BJD photo to me because she thought I might interest. It was about 2010-2011. The photo was BJD from DOD (forgot which one it was). I was totally amazed by their look! Since then, I collected information little by little about them from internet but still not really into this hobby. Until early last year, I decided to choose a not-expensive one (DF-H) from a German dealer because that time I was still worried about how BJD will really look like, so I didn't dare to put much money on it. :sweat But after I got my first doll, I was really impressed and started this hobby seriously. I choose to order only dolls, I feel liking, not the extreme expensive one and I put the limit number of my dolls because I still have to save my money for other plans and my future too.

    13. It was 2006 for me and my friend told me about them and linked me to the Luts website. I had wanted one then but didn't have the means at the time, over the years I would randomly remember them and last year, I had gotten my tax return and purchased my first doll, a RS Rong. I plan to purchase more dolls in the future. <3

    14. I remember seeing some photographs of BJDs quite a while ago - somewhere around being 15! I loved the idea of them - full poseable figures that I could completely customise to look like my characters!

Of course at the time I had no idea what I was doing, and not really any way to afford something as expensive as these dolls. I ended up getting into Obitsus instead - the 27cm ones - as they were easier for me to afford and less scary to customise. I have a whole bunch of them, but I kind of stopped with them when I went to university, I just didn't have the time for them.

I started looking at BJDs again early last year, and when I found UK dealer Angelesque I decided to save up for one. I'd loved them long enough! In hindsight I'm very glad I waited so long, the doll I would have bought back then is completely different to the doll I ended up buying, and I love her.

    15. I loved the pose-ability and the realistic aspect of them. I never liked dolls that didn't have an elbow joint or knee joints. The first doll I looked into was from Iplehouse and I got the best of both worlds (despite never owning one). It was like finding gold.

    16. I remember it was because of a sticker book a classmate of mine bought when we were in senior high school. I looked at it and was fascinated by the dolls, I didn't know what they were called back then. Months later, I was browsing the wiki article of Lolita fashion and it was written there that they usually carry dolls, and they were BJDs.

I was happy when I learned what they're called, when I search for it in google I fell in love. So I strived to save money for my first doll~ :D

    17. I first got into BJDs when my sister got her first doll. At first I thought it was creepy but as time passed I got interested in them little by little. Then I asked her where she got him and she told me Luts. I went to there site and looked at there kid delfs but I couldn't decide which one plus I didn't have the money. Then Saboten con came around and I was given a present. It was my first doll!:XD: He is a Soom tiny gem. Originally he was a girl but now he is boy. Now I have 7 doll and planning to get 2 more. :)

    18. My girlfriend got me into them :) We'd go to conventions and she'd see stalls showing off their BJDs and she'd always vow to get one some day. It took some time for her to get one and more time still for the dolls to win me over but at length I thought I'd give them a go. It's still very much a secretive thing for me as I'm not sure how such an interest would be received by my family :pout: but that doesn't really bother me.

    19. I watched a lot of anime as a teen. When I found out about BJDs, I was so obsessed :) I didn't get one until years later, but I admired them for years.

    20. I saw some pretty pictures online and got interested. :) I've always adored flawless beauty but I think western dolls are just creepy. So bjds it is, for me.
