1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Frackin pullips dragged me in. Was looking for doll junk and happened across the volks site. Saw a sleeping doll and loooved it, then same the price and went "Surely that's a typo. Screw that noise." Went on my merry way and went to junkyspot one day for new pullip junk, saw Elfdoll Soah... layawayed my soul away soon after.

    2. I got into BJDs through Pullips actually, I know they are a no-no topic here but without Pullips I would never have really seen BJDs - for a long time I actually preferred Pullip's because they were cheaper, customisable and their eyes were articulated - I didn't like how BJDs eyes were just...well, there!

It's strange but over time I matured from Pullips and saw the beauty of BJDs and...well, here I am! XD

    3. For me it was browsing through You tube and I saw box opening and I looked and the angel out of the box got me hooked since then. That was last year.

    4. In my case I was in a forum of another type of dolls and someone posted pictures of her bjd in the offtopic section. I had seen them before looking for something on the internet and actually I think the first picture I found on the internet of a bjd was a delf soony, but I thought it was like a unique handmade doll or something like that. So it wasn't until that girl posted the pictures of her bjd on that forum that I found out what they were, their name and etc. After that I registered in a bjd forum and I started saving for my first doll :)

    5. DA and then later youtube. I've been in love with them ever since.

    6. I remember seeing BJDs when I was first getting into the internet when I was a kid. I had no clue what they were but I loved them and then forgot about them. I didn't really get into them until like three years later when I saw some images on DeviantArt and from then on I was gone gone gone to the bliss that is this hobby.

    7. I came across bjds online around 2008. The dolls were simply gorgeous to look at despite their then-prohibitive price. It took me a few years and plenty of research to make the decision to get into the hobby. Even if I end up only being able to ever afford one (hope this doesn't end up being the case), at least I can rest assured having owned one. What's interesting is that I didn't start out with an interest in realistic sculpts, or males for that matter. Today I mostly drawn to the realistic dolls and take time to look at the guys.

    8. Oddly it was pullips that got me into them, when I first started to like them I watched a ton of videos on them. Soon I ran out and started to watch bjd videos and thus I started to save for my very first doll.

    9. I firstly start doll hobby with animator's collection dolls. I enjoyed to make it's clothes. Some of my friend who already do bjd hobbies introduce bjd to me, too. I remember the first doll that I thought 'beautiful.' I dreamed to meet her in real, not through monitor, someday.

    10. I was obsessed with YouTube crafters and everyone seemed to be collecting other (off-topic) dolls. When I started researching these, I saw BJDs on some of the websites. I became so infatuated that I did tons of tons of research and after purchasing my first BJD (FL Littlefee Ante) I was hooked!!!

    11. The very first thing that I can remember is thinking that they (Images of dolls) were really nice photo-shopped images (Ha!) then I somehow stumbled upon Impldoll's site and thought that the generic word for these dolls was literally "Impldoll" for a while I really wanted a Dorisy. Well, thank everything for youtube because I then typed in the name and found the term "BJD", I then found a very cute doll named Taxi, and from there I discovered the realm of sellers~

From then on I have been totally engulfed in the hobby and I couldn't be having more fun with the people I have met and the things I have done while being in the hobby.

    12. I got into blythe dolls first and I'm not sure what brought me on to them. I had a pedigree sindy as a very young child and never really had much interest in dolls until 2003 or 2004 (shortly after blythe dolls were re-released by Takara which was in about 2001). At the time I ended up with over twenty blythe dolls, pullips etc and then as I was involved in the world of dollies I started to look more into BJDs. My first order was for a Cerberus Project Lishe in WS with default face up, who I ordered through a dealer (before luts had a direct site) and I've not really looked back since. I have had periods where my interest has wained and I have sold off most of my dolls but with all the new companies coming about in recent years I can't see my interest dropping off again any time soon!

    13. First I was shown the DoD website randomly through a friend years ago, and was like, oh go no they are gorgeous but... so much money! Then I got into Japanese things properly and saw Dolfies through Culture Japan/Danny Choo and thought, I wouldnt mind one! And then in uni I met my friend, who is on here, and she brought some of her dolls to class and I fell in love with them! ^^ They kinda helped our friendship too since I was so fascinated by her dolls~ I am now proud to say I own some, one being a DoD! and may possibly be getting another DoD soon :3

    14. ...Should NOT have watched that Rozen Maiden...*facepalms

    15. I'm pretty sure I got into BJD when I started to see them on Deviantart and I thought they were really pretty. I was getting to photography at the time so I thought I could practice my photography with one. :D

    16. I got into BJDs when I saw an avatar of a realistic looking female doll but I didn't know what it was; this was probably the year 2007. All I knew was that it was so pretty and I wanted to find out more. Typing in 'doll' on google didn't help, it just came back with ragdolls or kid's dolls like cabbage patch kids etc and I knew it wasn't a barbie. I can't remember how I ended up finding out it was actually a BJD but since then I've gone into the hobby :)

    17. I'd seen some pictures in a doll magazine, but I first became interested in them through a couple of doll blogs I discovered around the time I started my own travel doll blog. As the fates would have it, one of the BJDs I fell in love with ended up becoming my very first one - which is a long story I've bored everyone with by now. :)

    18. i had seen them before and thought, wow, cool, but never really paid much mind. I was looking into more realistic drawing manikins and, well, they stink. I ended up stumbling into bjds and found my new obsession!

    19. A friend that I now hate because I am so broke! In love but so broke! :)

    20. While searching for a baby doll online, I saw a little white skin doll which I think was kinda creepy at first but so beautiful in the same time. I love to see her despite knowing nothing about BJD. A few years later I saw a really handsome doll that looks so real while looking up for the same baby doll and this time i couldn't resist finding more about him! Turn out it's a BJD. I learned about it and now waiting for my first!
