1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. For years, I'd been seeing bjd's posed for art-style shots, and thought they were really pretty, but really strange (especially the, uh, anatomically correct ones). I continued to see these gorgeous art pieces and then one of my friends told me she was really interested in them. She and I started talking in depth about dolls (boy d her eyes light up!), and after she got her boy I decided to save up for one myself.

    2. Uh, it's been YEARS but I think my online friend had a BJD and I was wondering what it was. It looked awesome and I was curious. So I checked the Internet. And I'm still here x,D

    3. My best friend and I got into anime and other things like that. She discovered BJDs and I got really into lolita fashion. After she bought her first doll (a hujoo Freya), I fell in love with BJDs. However, because I'm into both the fashion and BJD collecting it's been so difficult to even think about doing both (because they're so expensive)! However, I really hope to get my first doll soon. :3

    4. I don't remember if I was browsing Deviantart or Livejournal when I first saw a BJD, but I thought it was really cool that you could make your own character with one and I have wanted one since then.

    5. I love all things manga and anime :3 So for a birthday my mom bought me a doll because she thought it looked cool and anime-ish (it was second hand, she bought it from a doll show because she sells antique dolls) I THOUGHT IT WAS THE COOLEST THING EVER AT THAT'S WHERE IT ALL STARTED

    6. I just searching around at google and i found a selling site and i loved the dolls...

    7. What made me actually want one was when my friend got her first doll! I never actually felt like following through with the idea of having one myself, until one day I just woke up and felt the need to own one.

    8. I read an article on Kotaku about a crowdfunding project to create a 'real doll' who would be a better role-model than Barbie. One comment showed a picture of one of the minifees I think saying that they still thought fashion dolls and BJDs were prettier, I was intrigued, googled it and then fell in love. It seems like we've had lots of different journeys to get here!

    9. I had seen some photos on Pinterest, but I was not very interested. Then a college friend came to me talk about such a BJDs and I was wondering what that was. How I love to meet new things and have always loved dolls of all kinds I have been researching it.

In my first Google search I saw that I knew about what my friend was talking about. I looked some more and when I saw the price of a doll (one that I had not enjoyed it as much) and I gave up because I thought it would not thrill me with something that I could never buy.

By chance, after seeing some pictures of dolls Iplehouse the desire came back and I allowed myself to at least admire those dolls. The interest has become deep desire, and soon after in the hobby. I realized that these dolls were everything I was looking for and did not know.

It's funny to think how those $ 600 that beginning, now do not look anything to me. There are no barriers to dreams.

    10. I was at Anime Central four years ago and passed the line waiting for the bjd panel and my jaw was on the floor as I passed all the gorgeous dolls the people in line were holding. Finally, this year I have some of my own!

    11. I started seeing them in doll magazines way back when and was interested in them since then.

    12. I've known about BJD for over 6 years, since DOD released Elf Ducan for the first time. I was completely in love with him but had never thought of getting him home (that guy was unaffordable to me back then. because I was just a secondary school student)

Now after I'd discoverd a large BJD community in my city, I got to this hobby for real :)

And I'm trying my best to get an Elf Ducan home :D

    13. I have been collecting anime statues, and it is unavoidable to end up seeing some photos of dolls here and there. First thing I thought was that they were so beautiful. I currently dont have any doll but I stopped preordering figures to start saving for one doll. My analogy is far from exact but I feel like statues are like 3D and dolls are 4D, if that makes sense...

    14. A few years ago someone told me that some of my illustrations reminded them of Dream of Doll. I had no idea what that was so I googled it...... and fell in love!

At the time I thought that BJDs were something you could only own if you lived in Korea or Japan and so I just went and looked at the DoD pages occasionally and drooled a bit and that was that. Then last year I was looking at the DoD site and wondered what other doll companies there might be. While I was looking I found links to European dealers. Wow..... you could get BJDs in Europe after all!
As it turned out I've actually ended up doing almost all my buying directly from China and Korea anyway as it turned out to be easier and quicker dealing with the companies direct! :)

    15. When I was around 12-13 (2001-2002) years old I became really interested in Japanese culture (music, fashion, language etc).
Somehow I discovered Volks and their BJDs (probably on the internet, but maybe in a magazine). I fell in love with them but it was a lot harder to come by then, so I waited around 2 years for my first doll (SD Sara).

I took a break from collecting for many years but now that smaller 1/6 size dolls are more common It's reignited my passion :aheartbea

    16. I was obsessed with deviantart when I was younger and I loved them as soon as I saw them, I just didn't have any way to afford them at the time. I forgot about them for a while and once I got into collecting anime figures I was re exposed because of Dollfies ^.^

    17. I liked to make anime rag dolls in lolita dresses, so i was web searching for gothic lolita dresses, and found a picture of a lovelly doll wearing a really cute dress, i loved that picture but i didn't have a clue, from where that doll came from, years later someone shared a link in facebook, i think that doll is from DoD.

    18. The very recent and slow process of reemergence after having major depression for many years spurred me into hobby-hunting. First it was painting, then jewelry making, then crafting with resin, then I stumbled upon Nicolle's Dreams, AsenvaBJD and FreyaBunny19 on YouTube. They all inspired me and reminded me how very much I love dolls and all things miniature and cute. And now I'm very much into BJDs and it makes me very happy!! :) :daisy

    19. What got me first into this hobby is my interest for stationery -_- one day I came accross this notebooks that have twin girls (or boys?) together as the cover of the notebooks. At that time I didn't even know what that is, I think it is a human photo -_- then, years later I just know what it is, so I got some for me now XD

    20. I learned about bjd a while back from a friend. They were pretty but meh. Fast forward to several months ago when I got obsessed with doll making and using dolls as actors fornmini films, and well after obsessing over a petite Blythe (which I was gonna use the body for reference but toss the head,,, my little pet shop Blythe,,,) and I then decided to just buy the dolls. I looked into obitsu but I then noticed a comparison between the 11cm obitsu and the pukipuki/brownie dolls I feel in love and the rest is history.
