1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Same story as Anna Isabel, I was around 16 I think and somehow stumbled onto DOD's website. That started my fascination with BJDs, but what really got me into it - as in left me feeling like I could actually own one - was a fellow BJD owner, who loved her dolls and had such amazing photo-stories. Also, she lives quite close to me, so I finally realised that people in my country could get BJDs shipped here after all.

    2. About 9 years ago, someone on a forum I was on was talking about BJD's and when I looked them up I thought they were really creepy. Started warming up to them after a while and found a vampire boy that I really wanted to buy. I can't remember from which company he was, but since then I've liked BJD's. It still took about 8 years for me to get my first doll though :)!

    3. I think six years ago, a friend on a forum asked me if I knew about ABJDs and showed me a picture. After falling in love with a slew of pictures I found through my own research, I built up the courage to talk to my parents about getting one... and then proceeded to look for the cheapest doll that I could bear to look at. Which was fine and dandy then (except I'd wanted a DOD Luke) because his quality was alright for early 2009, it's come back to bite me because I'm no longer in the ranks of those who still love their first doll. Still have him, though. On the plus side, I finally have my dream doll on the way.

    4. Although I don't remember super clearly what first got me into BJDs, I would say what really got my interest into them would be the beautiful photos of them on deviantART. I still love looking at BJD photos on the site, and now I look at them on flickr sometimes too. x3
I think I originally learned about dolls in 2011 or 2012? I really got into them in 2013 though.

    5. There was an artist I watched on deviant art who would post really nice pictures of a doll. I loved how he was dressed and posed and everything that I wanted one of my own. I looked around at whatever companies I could find online and bought one I fell I love with. I'll still look at him and feel satisfied with my purchase.

    6. I saw a picture of beautiful doll in my friend's LJ back in 2008 (it was a Soom Vega boy) and found both Soom website and SDink's LJ with all those gorgeous faceups:) I was totally captured. I was browsing doll forums for several years, visited BJD parties and finally decided to buy a first doll in 2013 only:)

    7. One day I was on Instagram and for some reason I came across a doll account called "Elfgutz". The person had fully customized their dolls, and they all looked super realistic and lovely. I was kinda creeped out at first, but then I became really infatuated wanting to know what they were, and how to get one. I finally looked into it, and then I knew - I was hooked!

    8. While looking for drawing references on google I stumbled upon a picture of Iris by Linda Macario at first glance I thought it was a picture of a real person and almost scrolled passed it until I did a double take and realized she was a doll! I clicked on the picture which led me to a website, I don't remember which one, and I completely fell in love with Iris but she is over $1000. After a while after saving for about half a year and only being able to save up around $100 (I was still in highschool and had the lowest paying job ever) I kind of gave up on that dream. Eventually I decided she was just too pretty and that there must be a way to get a doll for less than $1000 so I started looking and fell in love with many more pretty dolls :D

    9. I went to a few doll meet ups in my area with my sister, and then she got her first BJD. I eventually persuaded my dad to pay half while I paid half for my puki. The rest is history :D

    10. It was the photo of Sabik that got me into BJD:XD:
Now I don`t like him but at that moment he was the only BJD I knew.
The second one I saw was Migidoll Ryu

    11. It was about 3 years ago when my mom came home from an antique doll show. At the shows, they have a table with free doll magazines and she brought a couple home. I was curious so I decided to flip threw the pages. That's when I saw the Volks limited edition Belle and Beast set. I instantly fell in love with them. So I started googling all about the dolls and the rest is history!

    12. I knew they existed but thought they were sort of silly. (And I was terrified or porcelain dolls at the time) then I met some lovely peeps at an anime convention who had all kinds of BJDs, huge demon ones (I don't remember the sculpt, just the MAHOOSIVE hooves) and the tinies, I learned more about them, joined a few forums and eventually went for a Volks Vinyl (Was too scared to handle resin at that point, after that it's been resin all the way XD)

    13. A friend of mine wanted me to try and sew her some clothes for her dolls back in like.. 2011. and while that plan kinda fell through, i fell in love with the dolls and decided i MUST have some for myself. fast forward to now, and i'm buying my first doll from that same friend! Funny how things work out, huh?

    14. First semester of design school, the assistant was passing his portfolio around to show us what we could accomplish by the last semester there. He had 2 portfolios. One was fashion, competitions, costumes and commissions. The other was doll clothes that he sold. It was so random. I didn't like his doll but it wasn't my hobby or my designs so I said good for him. I got curious after time and looked up dolls. Then bjd the abbreviation was everywhere! I looked it up, then faceup, then stringing. And so forth. I loved it.

    15. Well, my friend told me about bjds, I saw these dolls and bought my first doll, it was amazing :)

    16. Ahh. Sims 2?
I saw someone make a custom outfit based off bjds and so i googled them. Lol

    17. I wanted a doll for my dollhouse that could actually pose and look cute. I saw some pretty dolls on the internet and finally found out that they were pukipuki dolls from Fairyland. I bought my ante immediately and have loved her ever since.

    18. I babysat my friend's bjd while he was out of town years ago and I fell in love on the spot. xD But I was dating an unsupportive person at the time, who just couldn't understand what I liked about bjds so much, so I didn't end up getting one of my own until over two years ago, when I saw one on Tumblr going for a decent price (my 5Stardoll Tumnus) and went - y'know... IT IS TIME. *CLIIICCKKK!!!* So so so glad I went for it! Love my bbys so much~ :aheartbea

    19. I fell in love with BJD back in early high school. I remember reading a lot of comic/photostories from this one BJD collector. I was really impressed by the dolls and their articulations. Then I saw the price tag and was like NOOPPPE (that was back in grade 14? where $100 is like wow you rich?). Now that I have worked a bit and can afford one, I am back! :)

    20. It's very coincidental I think. It all begun when I bought this one magazine out of curiosity while waiting for someone somewhere consisted of anime/manga news that has an article featuring photos of a convention in Japan with two small pictures of few bjds. I found them interesting but I wasn't sure what they were called then and finally went surfing online and scrolled through a website that referred them as ball-jointed dolls. The idea of being able to customize everything in a doll really got me into this hobby. I found Dream of Doll first, then Volks and LUTS :)
