1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I saw BJDs on the net 5 years ago. I never actually though at first on buying one since I only knew they were expensive. So I just continued my life forgetting about them. Then, like 2 or 3 years later, I saw Pullips, because a friend of mine had many and I though they were really cute. Then I found BJDs again.
I loved BJDs a lot although I couldn't efford to have one. And last year, on august, a friend of mine (who also loves BJDs) told me that a girl was selling her BJD. It was a super offer so I HAD to buy her. c:

    2. A few years ago, I read Aimee Major Steinberger's Japan Ai, and the dolls she drew were just gorgeous. So you could say it's all her fault. After that, though, the various companies proved themselves, so it's a hopeless cause now.

    3. My best friend actually bought a second-hand Luts, and I thought he was the creepiest thing ever XD And then I met him in person and I fell in love!

    4. I fall in love with BJD after seeing a photo on dA. I think the artist had change his name and deleted the photo. but it was a picture of a blonde SDGr boy name Cloud. The photo made him look all light fluffy warm and just wow. Then that a second picture where he hug a 1/6 cute baby boy was just like an arrow to the heart for me :aheartbea

    5. Going to anime cons and seeing people walking around with the prettiest dolls. I got curious and at Anime Iowa I attended my first BJD panel.

    6. I was into cosplay [I recently retired from that hobby >u<] and I saw a local cosplayer on DA post her very nice cosplay of the default characters/outfits from DOD. I don't know how long that was but I was a wittle highschool girl back then xD; Then I would occasionally and eagerly visit the DOD website every now and then. I used BJD's as inspiration for drawing my artwork because I love the semi-realistic style and facial structure they had. But recently, I decided to dive into the hobby once and for all and bought my first two dolls. I've been staring at these beautiful resin dolls for years and based my inspiration and anatomy practices on them, so I think it's time I got one for myself and joined this wonderful hobby :D

    7. I saw them years ago and found them to be rather creepy but I think it was sometime in the middle of last year I found them again and fell in love with them and decided to get one of my own

    8. I was looking to customise a doll in the image of my friend as a gift, I didn't mind if it was a soft or a plastic doll, and then I saw all these videos of BJD customisation. This lead to watching an unboxing video of a Leekeworld Mikhaila and the recipient was so excited and the excitement was contagious! Mikhaila is probably my grail doll now, haha.

    9. I was originally collecting monster high dolls, then I saw BJD's on deviant art and fell in love.

    10. Japanese subculture and cosplay. I was very into those back in the days and the forum I joined had a subsection for BJDs. And also when I started going for events and my team mates were interested in getting their first BJDs, they kinda got me into it too ^^

    11. My Daughter she gave me my first doll a Dikadoll Rena.

    12. ^ saw she posted, figured I would, too! :)

I got introduced to the hobby by my best friend, Tatsu-kitty on here! I instantly loved tinies and fell in love with sewing for them. <3

    13. Well, I was well into anime well before I got into BJD's, and I think it's the general aesthetic that really appeals to me. Anyway, I saw my first BJD somewhere on dA. I can't recall what sculpt or even who it belonged to, as I only saw it in passing. Well, I believe I saw one of my friends had one, and they mentioned what it was in the description. That led me to investigate these BJD's at length. And, well when I came across what was to be my first doll, I fell in love with the sculpt. I guess I just really like the way they look, and how you can just about customize them extensively. And being a sucker for creating countless OC's, it quickly became my creative outlet.

    14. I find out about BJD dolls from an artist who used to collect them, and it was ages ago,but I never gave it a second thought until one day I was looking for a doll for my daughter, and came across MB Lilac's Elin(Iplehouse) which looked a bit like my little girl.I've started searching where I could buy one just like that ,then I saw a price and only then did I realise that it is not for children :o And what do you think, couple days later I've ordered her for myself :lol:I think the official date when I got hooked by BJD dolls was when I received my Elin, the same day I've decided to start saving money for the next one.And there is no way of stopping me now :danceI have quite an extensive wish list

    15. I've been looking into them since college started and I went to my first anime convention, Youmacon 2009. Someone there had a Volks Dollfie Dream with her and I loved the anime design so I started researching. Since then I always wanted some (With at least 1 DD), and now I have 4 girls, one of which is a DDdy

    16. Had a friend from high school who bought a Doll Love off eBay and man, I really liked that doll even if I only saw it in person once or twice. A few years on I found the very same doll on eBay but couldn't afford it. As I saved up I looked around and ultimately settled on my Iplehouse habit.

    17. ... oddly enough gardening. I wanted to make a fairy garden for my basil that was coming in but most of the stuff was way too expensive so instead like any thrifty (cheap) person would do I turned to YouTube DIY videos. The craft videos led me to dollhouse miniatures and dollhouse diy which led me to dolls (especially Monster High dolls) and a year later I now have my first slightly used PukiPuki... named Basil :)

    18. My BFF! About 8 years ago I noticed her posting pictures of her BJDs on Myspace. I fell in love with them instantly. I remember when she came over & brought them for the first time-- I couldn't believe how big they were! They were MSDs, but I was envisioning something the size of a Barbie. I bought one of her dolls about two weeks later.

    19. I first found out about BJDs after I saw them online after I started collecting Blythe dolls. But being 13/14 at the time I knew I definitely was not going to be able to afford a BJD so just forgot about them - until I happened to find a BJD in a charity shop by chance a year later! After spending days trying to find out more about the doll I bought I fell in love and haven't looked back <3

    20. I went to a convention several years ago and one of the lovelies who was staying in my room had a BJD and was heading off to a meet, but before they did, they let me take a looksie and told me a little bit about the hobby. I wanted to get one for myself very badly, but being a poor, jobless whelp made it impossible to get one in a timely manner, especially with the other hobbies I was involved with at the time. I ended up putting it aside and finally looked into it at the beginning of the year when I realized, hey! I can get into this now. I has moneys. And no other hobbies occupying my time at the moment!
