1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. Ten years ago, a friend of mine showed me a pic of one doll from Dream of doll, god, I was in shock. "this is the most gerogeus doll I ever seen" I thought. And now, I still searching for this doll ;)

    2. I got into it just by seeing dolls around different cons. They were so different looking and I've never seen anything like them, so I would ask around and find out more. Years later and here we are lol

    3. Exaclty hahaha oh god, I still remenber that feeling when I saw her the first time, what memories :chibi

    4. Basically, I was displeased at the fact that weren't any transgender dolls and decided to created on with a Ken doll. One day well exploring the explore thing on instagram I saw bjds. At first I didn't really get into them because of the prices, but I just kept coming back to them. Eventually I really got into them and here I am now.

    5. I've always loved playing with dolls since I was young, all those Barbie days...then I stepped into teenage and stopped playing Barbie. But I did buy a collection of porcelain dolls in my teenage years. Then I came across a doll shop where they sell Pullips and BJDs...that's when I started browsing about BJDs and I was so amazed by the beauty of BJD.

    6. I read some of Rozen Maiden back in the day, and when mentioning this to someone I was involved with at the time, I learned their sister collected them. She actually had a DoA account but that was ages ago and I've completely forgotten who it was. I saw pictures of her dolls though, and always sort of kept them in the back of my mind.

When I met my current girlfriend, she had a doll and wanted to get another, so I put in an order at the same time, because why not.

    7. Deviantart. I was browsing and just so happened to come across Saaya-Chan's photos of her boys. I learned the basics from her FAQ and went from there. At first, I was reserved because of the prices (Luts was the first company I looked at when their SDFs were 450 USD), but once I decided I wanted to learn more, I came here to DoA.

    8. I have been an anime fan for years and have loved anime figures. It was only a matter of time before I ran across a dollfie dream online. To be honest I though bjds were a little creepy at first! But as I looked into them more I fell in love <3

    9. My first encounter with a bjd was at a burn (camping event look up burning man as a reference to what I am talking about) a hippie boy had one and it was bizzare but, I liked it. He had a very strong connection with his doll. I admired that. I have a very strong connection with a stuffed animal of mine so when he gave me a doll after becoming my partner I was pretty enamored. I may have went crazy and started doll adopting. I'm stopping at 6 but, the love is real.

    10. I'm not sure anymore, it was so long ago, but I think it's because I watched Rozen Maiden. I liked the opening song and realized I liked ALI PROJECT, and I remember seeing the music video for the anime opening where the singer had a BJD lookalike. It was really fascinating to me, and then I found out about Volks dolls. I think that's how it all started.. :3nodding:

    11. I learned about bjds from a friend of my cousin 10 years ago, I believe. Really wanted one but couldn't "afford" at the time.

    12. I learned about the hobby and the community through a very good friend of mine, and she was just so excited by the whole thing, I've been meaning to try and get into the hobby for a few years but the price and just anxiety about buying/selling/meeting new people online put it on the back burner, but I just decided this year, why not? Might as well give it a go I need a new hobby to put some focus on! So here I am! And i'm very glad I found out about it because it's definitely nice to have something else to me passionate about.

    13. I've always been into dolls ever since I was a little kid. And then when I got older I discovered the world of art dolls and never looked back.

    14. ngl I watched Rozen Maiden, loved it, then looked online if anybody had made dolly versions of them. After finding Pullips, I found Volks' versions! I thought they super great! Gotta admit though, I totally bought a Pullip lol.

    15. I have no idea :nowords:...but it was probably some stream of consciousness internet surfing that lead me to BJDs. I want to say that it was because I stumbled across a box opening video once. No turning back now. :XD:

    16. Until this day I still don't remember what I was searching for on DA but I stumbled across a Pullip doll. I did a google search on Pullips which lead me too a boat load of photos on Flickr. Going through all of those photos lead me to BJDs but I didn't get into them right away because I didn't understand why they were so expensive. 6 years later I bought my first BJD.

    17. One year I was looking for a wig for my halloween costume as Poison Ivy, and I was searching all over the internet for wigs. I stumbled onto Etsy, because I love Etsy, and when I was looking at wigs I kept seeing doll wigs. I was really confused at first, but then I kept looking at the pictures and saw them modeled on some of the dolls and thought to myself "what kind of dolls are these?" so I looked up dolls next. After much searching I found BJD's, and the first ones I really fell in love with were the Minifee's from Fairyland. I just couldn't believe how a doll could be so beautiful. Then I honestly kind of pushed it to the back of my mind for a few years, because they were expensive and it just wasn't a commitment I was ready to make. But about a year ago I randomly saw one on Instagram on the browsing page. It was a commissioned face from Culur, and I started browsing again. I found tons of face artists and I was so intrigued. I knew this time I needed to save up and get my own. So thats exactly what I did!

    18. this is a fate~

    19. I was surfing the internet about 8-10 years ago and stumbled upon Dream of Doll pictures of Kirill&Ivan and Shal, later found E-an. They were so beautiful I imidiately wanted one. I started searching for them. but back then I was a university student without an income, so I started exploring the crafting side of BJDs first. And only now am I thinking about buying:)

    20. i saw some on deviantart a long time ago and wanted one ever since then but i thought they were supposed be like $1000 so i never got one it's only been recently that i googled cheap bjds and found DoA (and found out bjds were much cheaper :dance)
