1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What originally got you into BJDs?

Jan 19, 2010

    1. I guess mine is pretty simple. I was looking for yaoi and I came across some BJD pictures. They were so pretty I had to keep looking at them. Even if it wasnt yaoi.

    2. I think what got me interested in BJD's was seeing a few pictures of them on DeviantArt. At first I didn't know what they were, but then I began to research, and the rest is history lol.

    3. Hmm lets see, I was half way watching Rozen Maiden on Youtube and i saw some Japanorama Dollfie thing in the related videos, so clicking on it led me to another video who...I forgot who owned it but anyway I saw these, really pretty dolls(it was a BJD stop motion) so I was like, "ooooooooh...must find!" and that resulted in me looking into the comments and seeing something to do with Dream of Doll (Funny note, despite all of the sites I've seen and heard off, Dream of Doll remains my permanent favorite of all time.) Long story short, I got sucked into the BJD world due to a stop motion *face desk*

    4. went thorugh the same process as you~
      :D

    5. The very first thing that got me into the aesthetic of BJDs was a long, long time ago the puppet series X Bomber (Star Fleet, made in 1980) was aired on tv. Those puppets seemed so beautiful to me, I've always looked for something like that.

      For example:

I was really happy when I finally found BJDs, many, many years later!

    6. As a collector and doll maker of many years, I thought due to retirement and space my doll fun was over, then I saw a tiny Sleeping Elf Mina at a UK miniature fair and I had to have her! Later this year, as a customer of Dale Zentner's OOAK dolls, I looked at her Pink Grapefruit site and was amazed at these beautiful Dollstown dolls and Dale's approach to them. I now have 3 of my own [one advantage of being retired!!] They have given me a new wonderful hobby, sewing and photos and trying to master the computer and DOA??

    7. Kpop and gyaru fashion! Weirdly enough.

There was news about a company making minimees of a certain group and that led to minimees from other bands. I got interested i bjd from there but the price of just one head put me off. I've always mem-ed that article though it wasn't until (almost a year after) my friend who was also interested in dolls reminded me of it. & while I was searching I saw a sculpt that looked so much like this gyaru model whom I love and I just HAVE to have her. Now I'm saving up for her (& hopefully CH ships faster, otherwise, I have to adopt).

    8. I'll have to blame one of my school mates about it. She had a couple of BJDs and it really was a love at first sight. I soon registered on one Finnish BJD site and did some research there. And I think it was only a month or two from that when I bought my first BJD from another BDJ hobbyist.

    9. I saw pictures of them on Deviant Art. I didn't know what they were at first, but I started seeing more pictures and I learned more about them. Some deviants have FAQs on their profiles about the dolls, and I read those.

    10. I was looking for pictures of Chii from Chobits to draw fanart of her for a friend and one of my image results was the Volks Chii doll. I had no idea what she was but thought everything on the site was so beautiful, and that got the interest started.

    11. I was browsing through deviantart looking at pictures of Bill Kaulitz and a saw a BJD that look liked him. My first reaction was "OMG I must have one!" And yep thats how it happened.

    12. I still haven't gotten one yet but I've decided I'm getting a doll after I was looking at a anime/manga art con in one f the main cities. I saw a section on BJD's and I thought that was strange because it's normally drawings. That was when I saw them, they looked so perfect and beautiful. Now I'm trying real hard to get one. But finding a job is real hard *_*

    13. Wow! Those puppets are amazing! I've never heard of this show before. Must. Google. Now!!!

    14. I just happened to run across them one day online a year or two ago. After that I was kinda on again off again interested. Then out of no where I just was really into them! Couldn't get enough and kept looking at them, so now I'm doing serious research to find what I like best.

    15. I remember the first time a saw a BJD -- it was in an anime convention. A gothic lolita was carrying her BJD on her right arm. I was so amazed at both of their beauties! Both of them are so beautiful but what caught my eyes in this doll which has joints.

A few years after, a friend of mine told me about BJDs -- then I realized: "THAT DOLL IS A BJD." O___O

I am proud to say that I am an addict since then. :P

    16. My first encounter with a BJD was on dA.
      http://hiritai.deviantart.com/
was the account i had found when i was just searching through. Hayden was the doll mostly that caught my eye though. I'd never seen one before, but at first i only knew them as dollfies. So i tried searching them a lot. It was hard to find anything - but then i found volks. So I thought I'd use their dollfie plus dolls for an idea of what the bigger ones were like. but it was truely the photographs (i hated photography until these dolls), and the personalities i saw for each doll that made me fall in love with them. Even a the same doll looks entirely different from owner to owner. And you can change them however you want. I'm a creator and I love that aspect of them :3

    17. I guess some of my friends showed me photos, but I became really interested inn BJD after I saw Dink`s works, they are so real and beautiful...

    18. rozen maiden got me into bjds!i wanted barasuishou soo bad and i found dridoller's custom rozen maiden dollfie dreams and everything just kind of rolled into place from their!^__^

    19. I was watching youtube videos of haunted dolls and I saw this video of "creepy" dolls and one of the dolls was a bjd that I thought was really pretty/interesting. Then I was looking up doll patterns on deviant art and found a tutorial for eyes for bjds. After that I became obsessed.

    20. I saw them first on DeviantArt and, like a few others here, thought they were a bit creepy. Didn't think much of them after that, until my co-worker showed me hers. Made a world of difference, seeing photos vs seeing an actual doll. Now I'm in full obsession mode- have doll picked out and named, have all kinds of plans, and am going to try my hand at wefting wigs because I can't find the 'perfect' one. For a doll that's not getting ordered until next year's tax season. Yeah.
