What RACE are your dolls?

Dec 28, 2005

    1. I guess this means character's race..
They are both caucasian for the most part. One has a bit of Corean.
If I ever get all of "my" dolls they will be of various races. The hardest one to get I think will be for my African character who is supposed to be Masai and have beautiful dark skin- I have never seen a doll that looks even a bit like her T_T

    2. Well...I hope it existed in Biblical times, since the Bible was written by Jews...and they should know

However, when I think of Jews I think of the ethnic/religious type of Jew, since you can have Jewish Americans (like Zach Braff...), Jewish Brits (like Amy Winehouse and Vanessa Feltz...), who are Jewish people, but at the same time, their nationality is where they were born. They are not Jewish nationals, they are American nationals, British nationals, Polish nationals, Russians, Irish, Canadian, Israeli nationals...

The people from Israel are Israelis, who aren't all necessarily Jewish...and there lies the modern socio-political minefield that is that tricky part of the world known generally as the Middle East, but known locally by a myriad of names, claimed by many different groups of people and as difficult to classify today as it was in 1948.

The concept of country is a strange one. Unless you are an island nation, there really is nothing seperating you from your neighbours, until someone drew a line on a map between People A and People B and told them that they were Acountry and Bcountry. During the scramble for Africa so many tribes were suddenly told they were now inhabitants of one country and couldn't migrate the way they always used to, because that would mean crossing the border into someone else's country.

      :lol::lol:This is sooooo off-topic.

Welcome to minefield number two :) The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland contains at least three kingdoms and a principality (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.) Wales has just as much of a national identity as England, Ireland and Scotland, but on the world stage tends to get swallowed up by England*, and ethnically there is no clear Welsh line anywhere in Wales now, just like there is no clear Scottish, English or Irish line. We're all mongrels, but there are some people out there who are very nationalistic and will try to have you believe that there is no English in them whatsoever...but then they'll tell you they support Manchester United or something

I think Wales' distinction is that our language is still going strong and people still have a fondness for being in Wales because hearing a different language around you is just as good as going on a foreign holiday out of the UK:lol::lol:

      Now, back to the topic.:doh

*classic American quote; "Hey, you come from Wales in England, right? Cool! I think I can see Shakespeare's house from here."

    3. i create my own fictional races, which unfortunately involves a lot of modifying. :doh

    4. So far all three of my doll are (and will be) Japanese. I got my first on in Japan, I got him a wig of Japanese colored hair (possibly made from Japanese hair) and I found a Japanese name that I liked for him. Therefore he is Japanese, despite all the weird non-Japanese clothes I put him in.
When I went to order my little girl, I was planning to have her be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed sweet lolita type girl. Then I saw this loooong black wig on the site and I got it for her and she was suddenly Japanese, too, and is currently a rather traditional Japanese.
My third one will be Japanese because she's being made to be a long-time Japanese character of mine. Rather, she's racially Japanese because she's the daughter of two Japanese people, but she's nationally American, I think, because her parents immigrated when she was still a baby. I'm not too clear on when your nationality is determined.

    5. Cocori, Aaron, and my Goodreau girl, and Nabi Kiss are AA, My two tan Lishes are Samoan, and for my Soah and Ryeon, they will be of asian decent, and Ruru will be Hispanic.

    6. Sounds interesting :) Your nationality is determined by usually three factors, 1) jus sanguinis (ex. if you are born to an Israeli national you are considered an Israeli by blood), 2) jus solii (ex. if you are born on British soil to non-British parents, you are considered to be a British citizen) and 3) jure matrimonii (ex. upon marriage, you renounce your old nationality and adopt the nationality of the country in which you have married) Countries decide who is and who is not a citizen through this system.

With the Japanese Nationality law, you cannot hold dual citizenship. So your character would always remain ethnically Japanese, but if she was naturalized as an American citizen, she would have to renounce her Japanese citizenship.

My SDC Kurt is going to be German nationality-wise, but racially he's a frog

    7. Never really though about the race
they have their own identity in my fiction world.
      so it doesn't matter.

    8. Mayou is Japanese, human and Awa is somewhat Japanese but a vampire. I haven't decided on the others I will get, yet. ^^

      Laoky

    9. Lily is British, I guess. Her last name is "Kiddo", after Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill XD

My future dolls will be British too. (The ones I've planned for so far, anyway. *ahem-hem*) XD

    10. Tbh, I have no idea what race my dolls are. They're just... individuals. Some of them might have some fairy blood in them, but I prefer to keep it vague. Giving my dolls a detailed background story just doesn't work for me, it makes them feel lifeless.

    11. After reading numerous pages, i've started to notice that there is a continual theme occurring which seems have to some similarity to a question that had been asked by another person not related to this forum.

"What is the difference between race, nationality, ethnicity and religious group?"

The best answer to the question as chosen by the asker of that particular question, in my opinion seems to also have some relevance to the debate in this thread over differences between race, nationality, ethnicity and religion.

"Race is your color or what you consider yourself. Nationality is the country you were born. Ethnicity actually can be a combination of nationality and religion, language and culture. Religion well you can be of any nationality, ethnic group and race.

I'll give myself as an example. My parent were born in Spain and both are Jewish. I was born in Mexico and I'm Jewish.
My nationality is Mexican. My race I consider myself White/Hispanic. My ethnicity is Jewish/Mexican. My religion is well Judaism."

      Anyway just my thoughts.

    12. I've never really thought about what race my dolls would be. I'm sort of getting the feeling from No Name's character that he's British, but who knows. Florian...I definitely have no idea. ^^;

    13. Let's throw another cog into the machine!

On a biological, genetic level, there are no human races.

Most human genetic diversity appears within groups, not between different groups. To have races on the genetic level, you need to have more genetic diversity between distinct groups than within a single group. So genetically, there really are no human races. Just one race, to which we ALL belong.

The black/white/yellow/orange/neon pink/green-with-blue-polka-dots division of "races" only exists on a socio-cultural level.

    14. I'll be ordering my Yori once I get some affairs in order (after four years of waiting for her, I finally turned 18 last month) and she's going to be Mestizo, leaning more towards indigenous South American :)

If I get another doll, I'll want them to be.. Russian or Afghani:P

    15. Existing family:

      French/Japanese: Akira (1).
      Italian: Alessandro, Dante (2).
      Greek: Daphne (1).
      British: Hanna (1).

      Nationality of future members:

      French: 1
      British: 5 (ZOMG!)
      German: 3

    16. Mine are all mythological creatures but I do use suggestions of the creatures' countries of origin in creating their characters... So Idris, being an Alchemical Salamander, is a desert dweller and probably originally existed alongside the Touareg or some other similar culture, but he is not specifically any particular race of human. Sat-chan is Greek by origin, being a Chimaera, but he hasn't told me his Greek name. He's Satoru for now because he is a Mana MnM and Satoru is Mana-sama's real first name. *L* And Azh is beyond race.... he fell to earth before culture. =^_^= But his dress and characterization are inspired by the Hasidic and Arabic traditions out of which the myth of Angels appears.

    17. :sweat

My dolls are some strange races I made up. XD

      Human (nationality undetermined)
Existence (he... simply exists? )
Parasite (Well... not exactly a race since he's the only one of his kind..)

    18. XDDD''' Uh.

      Bat is a Muse.
Alessa is American, hailing from Silent Hill. Bloodlines are as unclear as they get.
Tidbit is a Goblin from the Court of the Labyrinth. XD'
Sylar is American, from New York. Not sure of bloodlines.
Gypsy WAS American, maybe with some European blood, now it's hard to tell since she's dead and from Silent Hill. XD'
Trinkette is...a puppet. Technically from India, though.
Claudia is American, also from Silent Hill. Same as Alessa.
      TickTick is an imp.
      GlaDOS is an Android. XD'
And my incoming Jonathan is American, originally from Georgia.

      Interesting question, though! XD

    19. I hadn't figured this out until recently, but...
Kazuki is British, and is a human. (He's come from a family of otaku, hence the name) Parents are from America, however, so he's not British by blood--just birthplace.

(Soon, hopefully) In the future: Japanese; pure blooded fox spirit.

    20. I've not actually come up with race/ethnicities for my dolls yet but I know I tend to go towards french or welsh/irish backgrounds. I've got at least 3 that are all going to be Fae, so that's determined, but the other ones who are human.. I don't know.
