1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What to answer when people ask about the cost of your doll...?

Dec 8, 2010

    1. Oh my... :,D I'll answer something like "oh, this I bought second-hand, so it wasn't that expensive, and I got this free head when I bought this body..." Only my partner (also has doll) knows the exact costs. :,D My mom once thought "Those must be pretty expensive dolls. Something like 100 euros, right?" ... Oh yes mom. of course :,3 Well, one was, but, like... normally? no... :,D

    2. I tell my parents things like: well they aren't cheap, they're not massed produced, they're made to order collectibles.

They get the idea without getting the whole idea.

    3. Usually I avoid the question and just smile and look away. :P

    4. i tell them mine was actually REALLY cheap for what they are...(most of mine are resinsoul/bobobie) at only $200...they go bug eyed bout the price, but i then tell them that they're custom made by hand to the order when they ask me why it's so much...if they think i'm weird, they're weird for spending so much money on name brand foods instead of saving up for stuff...(like dolls)

    5. I'll just say they are priceless. Let them go figure out themselves :D

    6. Well for me when i first got into the hobby I didn't have a job so the thought of buying a doll is really expensive, however two years later and a stable job I found someone who is willing to sell me an Angel Region MSD (i wanted a bobobie, the seller doesn't like bobobies) for $200 (includes eyes and mohair wig, they don't make her anymore: she was made before soom bought out the company) then she needed a good cleaning and face up (and I have to admit, a hard mod) for $65 all together (which is pretty cheap: $30 for the hard mod, $20 for the cleaning, and $15 for the faceup).

If someone asked me how much she is, I would admit it how much she is, however I would put in the fact that she would be about $500 brand new in box, just to make it like I'm saving something especially my place of work where everyone needs money (I work at a pawn shop)

    8. I'm honest about the cost of the dolls I own, but I don't care what people think.

    9. I just say they are expensive.. then add but it depends on the doll you are going to get (company/ sculpt) and then I add.. you can add clothes, wigs, shoes, accessories.... then they get tired listening to me xD

In my currency its more than 10000 already so I prefer not to say it! =D but rather I will just keep on and on about all the things that can "come" with the dolls and how great they are and I will show some pics and clothes heheh..

My sister said "hmmm quite nice price for all what you can get! =D " a friend said "WAH!!! if you don't know how to spend your money just give it to me I will make a better use hehe" she laughed but I was like ya ya go ahead and judge me :@ I felt bad but then I told her "well, others spend thousands on bags, cars, and stuff! this is how I like to spend my money!" she was like "ya! I agree!"

      =D

    10. I would be honest and just say how much i had paid for my doll. I don't think i will care about other people response as it is my hobby. My friend think that im crazy.. wasting so much for a doll as the size of the doll is small and does not fit the price. But i just can't stop loving this hobby as i can buy nice clothes and seeing the doll cute faces :D

    11. I really hate lying ,so in my experience I say it's expensive . because of the price I don't show them off to people that do not know about BJDs.

    12. I'd never say the actual price (I worry about thievery enough) I just say, "She cost enough, and was worth every penny". :)

    13. I say no more than a couple video games, but I managed to get them pretty cheap all things considering.

    14. I always say what exactly i paid for them to people who ask like at school or work.

Except to my dad, i tell him i won most of them in contests or lotteries and were free....

    15. "How much did that cost?"
      "....a lot."
      <_<;

    16. In the few cases that people have asked, it's usually because I'm talking about wanting a new one & being unsure whether I can afford it, or because I've mentioned putting one on layaway. In either case, I'm sure to mention that most of my dolls were purchased w/layaway as an option (but that's more about my own neuroses  )

If/when people comment about the price, I usually respond it's probably equal to what most people spend on their hobby over the course of several months. I like to use video games as an example, since those seem to be widely accepted as a hobby (especially for guys--like me) and a video game console can cost a couple hundred $USD easily, many people have more than one console and buy games w/some regularity, so they're easily spending BJD-esque $$$ over the course a few months. :)

    17. I would probably tell them about "$800 - 900 but there are cheaper ones".
If they were to ask why would i spend THAT much on a doll.. i would probably get pissy and say "Because i can. >.>"

    18. I'll tell only vague prices.
Like "there are very expensive dolls and less expensive dolls. the cheaper ones cost about 200-300$ and the pricey ones are 600-700$ up to more." (it's very general but people who don't know don't care)

Then, when I'll get an "whoa that's very expensive" back I'll tell them toughly "well' they are handcrafted manufactory items made just for me/ the owner so naturally THEY ARE expensive.

I wouldn't give to much on any other non-doll-people's opinion about the price because it's not their business. Personally, I find a new game console costing 1000$ or an freaking mobile phone costing 900$ very expensive, see?
Everyone spends their money anyway like they want to, so why bother? ;)

    19. I usually say "a lot" or "money".
If they ask something like "and how much is that?", I will tell them the price. It haven't happened yet though. >_>

    20. if someone asked me the price of my girl, I told them and then they said "my kid's doll is cheaper than that" in such a tone I would reply "well your kid's doll isn't a one-of-a-kind, handmade piece of art now is it" and then walk away.

but back on topic, I can't lie so I would have to tell them the truth (of course I would not include the price of her spare hands, outfit, shoes, wig, faceup, ect) but I usually just answer with "expensive"
