1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What to answer when people ask about the cost of your doll...?

Dec 8, 2010

    1. There is a range, but they aren't cheap. I leave it at that. Normally that is sufficient

    2. Since My dolls are YoSD sizes so far their price are 160-230 so I would say to my friend same "price to buy your laptop" XD

    3. Alas, my laptop is also in the higher price range...

    4. I never said the truth about the price to anyone as they (people who asked) primarily hated dolls... and I hate when they ask only to comment at your back! I mean only my family and closest friends know about this "strange kind of dolls that look creepy" so they should support me like I do with their strange hobbies but they don't, so I say "it's pretty expensive".. and to my mom who is very persistent I say in the range of 50-90€ that for her is already too much! she always tell me that I'm wasting my money and I say her that I can do what I want with it, I never asked a penny for anything..!

    5. I would just tell them out straight . Like around 500 . I am bad at lying and I dont think it actually matters even if i tell them the price

    6. Its very rare for MD to only have one with me, so I usually gesture to the smaller (msd or yo) and say they range from about 200 to 1500 (gesturing at SD if I have one with me) and then I give an approximate price for whichever one they are staring at most- though I usually low ball the price by at least 100. :/ unless they are a doll fan or a fellow bjd owner in which case I'll be straight up with the price.

    7. Me: Expensive.
      People: How much is expensive?
      Me: Just expensive.

    8. I always tell the price then say: So...don't ask if you can hold him!

    9. I'll give a straight answer to someone who is genuinely interested. Otherwise my answer is "more than you think". lol

    10. I usually try to gloss over the expense when someone asks. Unless they flat-out refuse my answer... in which cas I will usually explain the doll first, then throw out some numbers. I find describing how long it takes to make on of these lovelies is usually a good deterrent on the suprise of the price. Really, only other BJD fans would understand :XD:

    11. More than a can of beans and less than a house.

    12. Lol, i like this answer

    13. I try to be honest and up front about it... usually though if you just state like $500.00 then it will definately turn people off the hobby... but I usually say what my dolls cost then explain that just like any hobby it takes time, effort and passion to get them to look so awesome... as well as the differences in buying new vs. used etc... Sometimes also explaining all the effort by the sculptors, molders, and other expenses involved helps the person understand why they are so much... It takes a long time to make all the parts, and check over them to make sure they're ok, as well as the danger aspect in the fact that resin is like terrible for the lungs of the people working with it also helps people understand that, they aren't just mattel conveyor belt made barbies these are real pieces of art...

    14. look at them in the eyes with a flashlight under the face and say "one human soul".

I honestly would not feel confortable if some stranger came up to me in real life, showing interests in my dolls and asked their worth. I'd be afraid s/he'd want to steal it o_o so I would probably say something stupid of the kind.

    15. I just end up telling the truth and saying, "About $500 for the doll itself, and even more for her wigs, clothes, and eyes", because truly I couldn't care less about what people think of my own expenses. It's my own hobby after all.
If they come back with a snarky comment which has happened, like, "I could buy X with that amount of money", I just tell them, "Well good thing I'm not you."

      Shuts people up fast.

    16. Because I haven't bought any of mine new although to me they still cost a lot of money I usually say well they cost this much new but I got a bargain. Much better than spending it on a designer handbag isn't it.

    17. I've changed my mind about being secretive on how much I spend on dolls. I used to lie about it,but not anymore. My boyfriend's uncle just spent $700 on a single basketball game,so I'm going to bring that up if anyone says anything to me about my dolls. I don't want to hear it.

    18. Most people close to me know how much these dolls cost. When asked by someone who doesn't know how pricey they can be, I try to evade the question. I will just tell them that they are a little expensive and leave it at that.

    19. If people ask me about the cost of my dolls.. I will tell them the truth..
Doesn't care if they ended up telling me that "it's not worth it" or "a waste of money", "too expensive", etc.. my father told me that once and my friends too.. but I really don't care :) I'm just happy with them~ and I totally think that they worth it! so~ well~ :3

    20. If someone asks, particularly my step-father, the only answer I can really give is 'enough. they cost enough.'
I might try explaining to my mom the cost and why, but I don't think she'd really understand. So. . enough.
