1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What to answer when people ask about the cost of your doll...?

Dec 8, 2010

    1. They usually stop asking when I just say "a LOT." and smile sweetly. If they press on I usually tell them the price of my cheapest dolls, who are 110-140 dollars.

    2. If someone asks, I ask if they're planning to help fund my next one. Otherwise they don't need to know. ;)

    3. I usually say "a lot" but if I feel like I'll have to be more precise I take some time to first explain what they are and how much they cost to produce in terms of equipment and work time, which always helped people understand that no it's not a mass produced toy. They still kind of gasp when I say the price but they understand better with some background.

    4. This is perfect, I love this answer! I think I'll use this too!

When people see my dolls, they are in awe by the different kinds and I usually hear, " Some of these are worth money right?" I always reply, yes, some are.

I also think it's the way (tone) in which someone asks a question, can either be rude or inquisitive. I don't mind people being curious, but judgey curious I do mind.

    5. The thing is, would you ask how much someone's watch or phone or handbag costs? It sounds rude, right?

Unless it's someone in the hobby who is genuinely interested and might want one, there's no reason anyone needs to know how much you spent on your new toy. I only know the cost of some of my husband's RC stuff because I paid for it; he doesn't need to know how much my dolls cost unless it's his turn to be holding the credit card. For anyone else, it's none of their business.

    6. Precisely, I never understand why people feel the need to ask about the cost of an item they have no intention of ever owning...

    7. Minerva, I couldn't agree with you more. Everyone has a hobby, whether it be like us, dolls, or coins, shoes, bags, baseball hats, etc. We collect because it's fun and enjoyable. Some people just like to be nosey I guess. I get so much joy collecting and playing, so at the end of the day, I don't care what anyone thinks, but me. I'm sure most of us feel the same.

    8. I tell them what my dolls cost in really, what they think about after it is their business not mine and is not like I care that much anyways

    9. I will tell people how much they truly cost me. I don't care if they think it's crazy or not. Most people have something they splurge on or go all out on so I feel like most people can relate! & if not then I really don't care anyways :)

    10. I give a straight answer and people always say how can you spend that much on a doll its the same as spending £200 on a pair of beats it your money spend it on what u want

    11. Exactly, chloeeeeee, everyone is allowed to spend their money on anything they like and no one should tell someone differently!

    12. My husband would ask me how I could spend so much on 1 doll. When I told him that it's like him buying a new guitar, he understood. If you're a musician, you just cannot play a $100 guitar...He doesn't say anything anymore. Ha! He has a taylor guitar ($12k guitar), a 12 string, an electric, a baby taylor (that he bought for deployment for it's travel size), another electric guitar (that he's waiting for in the mail), a bass guitar....yeah, you get the idea ;). Just gotta find the right angle to get people off your back.

    13. I'm not good at lying about the price of my dolls. What i do tell them is as long as my kids are happy i can indulge in something i really want.

    14. I've never had anyone but my family ask me what my dolls cost so I'm not sure what I would say exactly. All of mine are in the $150 range which is pretty inexpensive for dolls but my parents still give me the "well..it's your money I suppose" eyebrow. I just tell them it's like buying a game console except more artistic and imagination inspiring and they drop the skepticism. I also use mine as drawing models so for me it's a good investment.

I guess I'd just be up front about it. People usually only ask if they are interested in getting one so being-round about wouldn't be very helpful of me.

    15. Generally I speak in vague terms, calling them "expensive," and if a price is requested, saying "My least expensive ones were $100" and leaving it at that. If the person becomes actively interested, however, or asks about the specific price of a given doll, I'll tell them.

    16. For me it depends on who's asking. My best friend knows how much I spend, but my mum can never know! She was asking about it a lot when I was home during the summer. She wondered if they were more than $100 and I said yes, but it depends on sculpt and so on. I was trying to explain why they are so expensive. But she only shaked her head and wondered if I was three years old. Thanks mum!

Otherwise if someone outside the hobby asks, I just say that they were expensive :P

    17. I tell them. It's a lot of fun watching them gasp and stagger back.

    18. I just tell them the truth. ._. It's my money, I can do whatever I want with it. Sometimes people roll their eyes or something, but I don't care. : D

    19. Whenever I tell people the actual cost of the dolls, they have really bad reactions. So I got tired of it and now I just tell people the name of the doll, and then tell them to look up the retail price. If they REALLY need to know then they'll look it up. I'm not going to make the price some big secret, but I sure am going to make people put in effort for that knowledge.

    20. Usually I tell them the real price, but feel pretty uncomfortable =___=
but there are some people that shouldn't know this, so I probably won't tell them.
