It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What to answer when people ask about the cost of your doll...?

Dec 8, 2010

    1. It's really rude to just come up to a total stranger and ask how much their possessions cost them. Unless I know the person, my stock answer is either "I dunno-- how much did that boob job set you back?" or "More than a Slurpee, less than a Porsche".

But if it's somebody I know well, chances are they already blow their money on even weirder shit than I do, so I'm comfortable telling them. My handbag-obsessed sister was most intrigued to find out that a Volks Genji could be used as even trade for a Balenciaga. Then my answer was "OK, Kristin, step away from the doll."
      :XD:

    2. I always tell them the truth, or say "do you really want to know?" If they say they don't know I just say a lot :P
I only spend money on my dolls...I don't get stuff for myself often, and I save my money. It is something that makes me happy. I am sure they have things they spend their money on too. Mine just happens to be on dolls :)

    3. I am not the type to really talk about money, I avoid it like the plague.
If someone does ask me how much my doll cost I won't lie, but I take to generalizations. I'll explain what my doll is specifically- made of resin, many parts that fit together and move, customizable, etc.- and say that they can cost anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand, depending on how big they are, how complicated their joints are, and how rare that particular doll is. I'll usually say that as a tailor, it's fun for me to make them clothing and such, and that it's just my personal hobby. A lot of the time it is not received very well, especially because I am a boy and boys don't play with dolls, but on occasion I get someone who is genuinely interested and I have a great conversation with them. I have made a few friends that way actually. ^^

    4.

This is great! I'm totally using this next time someone asks me, haha! :XD:

    5. Lolz. Funny but true~ X3

    6. Me n my friends will just give this comment to any one of them that asked with " You buy or I buy? " or " You like or I Like?"

    7. I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone, nor to be defensive about purchasing dolls. I've never had a stranger ask how much a doll costs, but they have asked if they are expensive. I just say yes, these are special dolls created by artists and come from Asia, so they are expensive and I really enjoy them. How they feel about that is up to them.

    8. My dad did that when I first told him I wanted a BJD. He ran through a list of other expensive things I could buy instead: a laptop, an iPod, a Kindle, and maybe other stuff...

      Only thing is:

I got the best iPod they had last Christmas from them, which doubles as a computer - and I got a Kindle the year before. So, I have no use in spending a lot of cash on another one of any of those things.

      I just wanted a BJD.

    9. I don't really like talking about how much I spend... (On pretty much anything) So I usually just say 'Well their not cheap! But their worth it!'

    10. I say "it cost enough to make my wallet cry" I don't care if people think i'm wasting money, it's mine.

    11. I've had that question asked so many times, and I laugh when they give me the WTF look, I've also had the wow you could have bought a laptop for that too!! I look at them and say yea, but why buy a laptop when you could get the best thing in the world to keep the power of stupidity away! when they look at me like i'm insane (which I am a bit anyway) I ask them how many people do you think come near me with stupid questions when I have my boy's / girls out and about! it keeps me and my dolls from getting the stupids, and lets me work on that or so famous laptop they think I need so many more of ........ I also found it keeps the stoners away from you when you have to go to walmart at night! they somehow think it's a voodoo doll ..... sadly I am the one person that tells them it is, and thanks to them making him feel like the stupids are coming closer to him he will now kill them all in their sleep ..... Stupid people annoy me, and if they are dumb enough to ask me that type of question, then they are going to get the answer they may not like. and if they try to ask me why I would spend that much on a "creepy doll" I would normally ask if they have a Xbox, Playstation3, or Wii? when they answer yes to any or all of the above I ask them why the hell they would spend that much money on something that wont even move, cost them a crap load of their life and then they still have to buy the games over and over again? I'll admit I'm also a gamer and am very guilty of buying those games and everything but hell it's my money and I will spend it the way I like if they don't like it then they can bite my dolls shiny resin ass! = ^.^ = I know a few of my boys that might actually enjoy that!

      OK rant done :)

    12. sometimes if anyone ask me about the price, i will say the half of the real price

    13. If it's the kind of person who goes to my school, i.e rich bitch, then I would say something along the lines of "Half the price of your iPad." But otherwise I just tell them that it's a lot, and also that it's none of their business.

    14. I've been asked how much a doll costs a few times... It's pretty embarrassing imo ><

Normally I tell them they're expensive, and get them to guess the price. Most people have fun trying to guess, and I think it kinda prepares them for the actual price. XD
If they guess more than the price I paid, I tell them there are dolls that cost that much but mine was a little cheaper. Then they'll guess something closer to the actual price and it isn't too hard telling them $600 after that.
But if they guess way lower, like $50, I'll just laugh and say, "I wish!" and well, I hope that gives them a hint of the real price @@

    15. I used to not have any problems with answering the question of how much they cost, but I've also been lucky with those who've asked. I have yet to meet someone who couldn't see why they're expensive, BUT I must admit that as the number of my dolls have gone up, I've been more likely to just respond "well.. they're not really cheap". I suppose I find it a wee bit embarrassing to let people know that I spend A LOT on dolls instead of saving up for a house (which I've been crying about for long now), buying much needed furniture or other kind of interiors or using it on charity.

I don't mind telling people when I get a new doll. I love them and like to share their beauty, but I'm no longer compfortable about letting people know where I spend the majority of my money (okay, I don't think that's the dolls, but I'm sure they're either the second or third highest exspense).

    16. My parents say the same thing, "You know you could buy a laptop with the money you have saved up for that doll, right?" Kinda makes me mad because I have a laptop -__-

I know the doll is off topic, but when I told a girl at YoumCon that my Pullip was $75 she almost stopped breathing.... yeah, she'd prolly have a heart attack if she ever asked the vendors and other con goers how much their real BJD cost! XD

    17. I tailor my answer to the person and venue. If they seem sincere, I answer truthfully with description and additional information. If it is an obnoxious stranger, I reply politely, "Thousands." and quickly walk away.

To annoying family members who have already asked many times before and whose re.plies always include shaking their heads and saying "Wow, that's a lot!" or "That's as much (more) than for people-size.", etc., -- I now reply "When you're ready to buy your first doll, I'll be happy to show you the online sites." Because I know they're too cheap to buy a doll, they are less likely to ask anything more.

    18. I don't take my dolls out, but if I ever receive this question I will do my best to reroute it. It's not polite to talk about money, but I might reconsider for someone that is interested enough in the hobby. As a few others have said, I also think the best way is to give them websites to see for themselves.

    19. I just show them the website then watch their reactions hee hee ...

    20. Iwould just tell people that they are a collectable item and that they can be rather pricey. People dont need to know hiw much i spend and then lecture me about how should be spending my hard earned money.
