1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What to answer when people ask about the cost of your doll...?

Dec 8, 2010

    1. I tell them how much they cost to hear the reaction phrase 'for a glorified Barbie' :)

    2. When I tell my family members how much BJDs cost and they declare them to be "too expensive" I remind them of the expensive things they bought and mention that football tickets have no resell value heheh ~u~

    3. I often get this kind of judgment, not only for my doll collection but my designer purse collection too. I like to politely remind them that I can spend my money how I choose, and that nearly everyone has a hobby - some are just more expensive than others!

    4. I just say that I pay what I am comfortable paying with a big smile lol

    5. I'm also a pretty bad liar, so I might them that it's just expensive. If it were my family and friends, I would tell them the truth and deal with the consequences of it. If it were a stranger, I would probably shout an even higher price just so they wouldn't touch it :XD:

    6. The cost of my belongings is just my own business, but if anyone asks, I would answer, hoping they'd leave me alone and won't touch the doll.
The people I meet these days are mostly my boyfriend's friends, they know me as a weirdo and do not proceed further than a polite weather talk. As for my boyfriend he was aware of the price but wasn't really impressed, as he's seen worse, tbh:wiggle

    7. When people ask after the prices i'm like..
      Yeah, well it's art!
      or...
But I will sell him for more and make a profit?
      D:

    8. I tell them the correct amount and explain about the resin quality / limited pieces / art & collection...
BJD are "The Hermes of Dolls" "The Lamborghini of dolls" so that way normal people can relate to the price :p

    9. I tell them what kind of price range the dolls go for, then tell them that I got a great deal on mine.

    10. Usually I tell the truth about the price. When people ask, why so expensive, they get a explanation, that BJD are like art and art also costs sometimes a lot of money :D They understand it :)

    11. I always just say "too much"!

    12. I usually say the truth if people ask! But if I don't wanna say how much I say "my arm and leg"!

    13. Whenever people I dont know ask about them, financially, I just tell them to google BJDs for price range. Because I seriously will not tell tell strangers about my finances.

If they're my friends, I would openly tell them. Which sometimes gets me that "You could have bought something else" and bla bla bla. But I tell them "Your electronics get upgraded every month. My doll doesnt. So who wastes more money?" and they shut up. Or sometimes they say "well they do seem well worth the price" and stuff like that. I already have a laptop and a camera and when I show them pics of my dolls then they realize how it becomes a perfect model for photography and for clothes.

As for family, they know how much my dolls cost so I've nothing to worry about. Sometimes they say it's ridiculously expensive so they usually try to help me find another one (this is about the accessories especially the dolly furnitures) where as my dad would volunteer to make furniture for them which I think is the sweetest ever.

    14. I try to avoid the price question because I always get the saucer eyes and that, "Really? For a DOLL?" question. No one understands except others in the hobby. I usually just give people a lower-than-it-actually-cost estimate.

I lie about the price when my mom asks though lol she tends to want to know how much my hobby costs me. I bought a $1200 doll and I couldn't bring myself to tell her. I just said it cost a lot and she assumes it was $600. Ahhh if only she cost me $600.. haha

    15. I've become very good at avoiding naming prices... Non-dolly people will NOT understand, and dolly people don't ask. ;)

    16. I usually flat out tell them how I paid, I don't mind their reaction because I'm not ashamed by the price I paid, nor do I regret it. :)

    17. really depends why they are asking. if they are considering buying one, i give a standard answer of they range from 300 to 2000. look online and see what you like. if the are just being intrusive and nosy and are the drama type. i say, i bought them years ago and dont remember, but if you want to buy one...repeat above. close friends already know.

    18. I say, look how cheap this doll was compared to this other rare, hard to find doll of the same size which can no longer be purchased anyway!

    19. It depends on who is asking and why.

Friends & Family: Get a honest answer, no matter what. =3 They know how crazy I am.
People who might be interested in buying: Since I am a friendly person I try giving them as much information as I can. Would include the fact that different dolls cost a different amount of money and the cheapest I personally know are at around 150$ blank but sure would need a faceup and clothes and all then.
People who are annoying (the kind of person that is like 'Ew, you're playing with a doll' for example): They don't get an answer at all. They get a nice 'It's non of your business, leave me alone' as a reply. And if they don't leave me alone then I'll just grab my stuff and leave.

    20. Always an honest answer. Im proud that my dolls are expensive, it means I put an effort into getting them! :daisy
