What was the worst accident that ever befell your doll?

Apr 26, 2007

    1. I was at my insanely small, annoyingly cramped desk where I do all my craft stuff. I had my DZ boy standing on the table leaning against the wall. I was just going to leave him there for a second to move a lamp. An extension cord snagged itself around the leg of the table, table jerks, doll nosedives onto the hard surface.
      He made it out with simply a little scuff on his nose, though, wiped off clean. The desk has a crappy finishing on it but it has yet to done any permanent damage to anything. >__>;

Aside from that, my DZ boy seems to take the most falls of anyone. And at the worst times- on or near concrete (caught him!), at meets (didn't...), on desks... D:

    2. I was taking a picture of Afanasiy in front of a temple once. I left him standing by himself (never had any problems with that before, he was also wearing boots meaning more ankle support or so I thought), and was about to take a picture. I never go the chance. He slammed nose first into the stone ground. His ankles failed to stay up straight. :( His pointy nose basically got compressed and somewhat squished to become blunt. Luckily nothing chipped but the MSC and the hot water method worked to expand his nose back out. I have no idea how it works but 'Yay!'.

He's never standing without support ever again.

    3. nbluju - I experienced a similar accident today when we were taking photos of our dolls in a Japanese garden. My beautiful tan Delf El took a face first dive straight to the ground. I wanted to cry :...( when I noticed that he had green colour and these white rub spots on his face (he's got a pristine default faceup). Luckily the magic sponge did the trick :) and he only has one barely visible spot where the MSC peeled of on the side of his nose. Its unbelievable but the faceup is otherwise still as good as before, but its no more outdoor photoshoots without a stand for him.

    4. Elyssa's never had any really bad accidents - just the first day she was home, I sat her on the piano stool and was taking photos and she fell off and I nearly had a heart attack xD just a little scuff on her nose, nothing a magic eraser couldn't fix :P

    5. Other than the usual falls and tumbles, not a lot happens with my dolls. Except one time, while trying to remove Milo's eyelashes, a chip of his face-up came off with it.

...I have the most anticlimactic doll accidents ever.

    6. Well, I've always been careful when it comes to Aidan. But there's this one time when I left him standing on my desk for a good few hours and he didn't fall...or so I thought. I went here and there leaving him on my 1meter high desk and he didn't fall until I went to chat with my neighbor... not even 5 mins n my room mate yelled telling he fell face first. Luckily he didn't break his nose, or I'd die.

    7. I think Kameko had the worst accident till now: I wasn't in my room for a while, but the door was open. When I went in my room I saw her head on the ground, I didn't realize that it was her head at the first sight. Then I was like "Oh my gosh!" picked it up and searched for body. Happily nothing get broken or damaged^^''
At that time her head wasn't attached to her body and she was sitting on a shelf, so my cat threw her down by jumping on the shelf...

And she nearly had an accident when I took her with me at a bookfair to show her a friend: We were sitting on the ground, she sat besides me and a girl ran past us and nearly steped on her! We were shocked and sat her in the middle of us...

    8. Deleted as i have got my answer and dont want to ruin the thread by non topic=)

    9. I have deleted this post and send it as a pm to atiram instead. Sorry.

    10. The worst thing that could ever happen did. Back in August I was on the back of my husbands motor bike on the freeway. My back pack zipper came undone, And my B&G Loretta flew out. She was in ruins!

    11. I always read this thread with horror, hoping and praying I would never have to post, but alas...:doh

I was taking apart my SD (very old discontinued Volks, in white skin, took me 2-3 years to piece her together, dream doll, no big deal..) to finally try my hand at hot glue sueding. I grab her (giant) ankle ball and pull it out a bit so I can clamp the elastic. As I reach for the clamp, the ball slips right out of my hand and violently snaps back into the lower leg causing a chip in the ankle of her lower leg... I single teared, then yelled 'Noooooo!!!' up to the heavens. It was all dramatic and movie like. The chip even flew across me eyes in slow motion and landed next her her body..

Its a tiny chip, and I already glued it back. But I ordered her a new set of legs, because I would die if the chip were to come loose again.

    12. To find something happened to your doll?

I'm about to. My husband called me totally FREAKING out. My boy, Icarus was sitting on the couch and my husband moved him to the floor, for some reason. And then he apparently kicked him. I have no idea how hard or how far he went but apparently something happened to his string because he's missing a leg now.

Or at least that's what he said... he was a little drunk LOL

But I'm kind of worried.... what if it's not fixable?

I told him I wasn't mad... but that might be because I have yet to see the damage for myself.

Have you ever come home to find someone did something or something happened to your doll?

    13. Touch wood! But I did think about the people in Japan during that Tsunami. I thought at the time when I watched that wall of water move through people's lives... and since Japan is the land of beautiful dolls, how many probably were lost to their owners... but that led me on to think, how many precious pets, dogs cats birds??? And your photos, those babies you had and now won't have pictures of - and then babies, how many babies were lost...

Nightmare thoughts and for some people nightmare reality!

    14. Your boy should be okay CCKitty, and it's certainly fixable! These dollies are tougher than they look! It sounds like his leg just came unstrung; all the pieces should be around the room somewhere (foot, ankle-cap, calf, thigh) get some ribbon or thin, flexible wire, take a deep breath and now you'll get a crash course in restringing! :sweat
      As for the question:

Have you ever come home to find someone did something or something happened to your doll?
No, well once or twice I've come home to them posed differently doing different things; (like once I got a new doll and my boyfriend posed them all around the box holding a big "Welcome Home" sign) but I keep my dolls up on a shelf; no one really goes into my room when I'm not there, and my family understands they shouldn't play around with them.

If something had happened, it would really depend on who did the damage, to which doll and how bad it was.

    15. Thankfully, I've never come home to any dolly disasters... merely a floor full of wigs soaked in kitty slobber.

    16. Have you ever come home to find someone did something or something happened to your doll?
I don't know that this is much of a discussion so much as a yes or no question...

No. I have never left my dolls where someone else can get to them, nor lived with anyone so disrespectful as to enter my room and touch my things, unless they already know how to safely handle dolls and were just being silly to give me a cute surprise when I got home.

    17. I have never had any experience like this with my dolls. I once had a husband who was not careful of my belongings. It took me time to face the reality that he was not careful with my spirit and eventually my physical safety. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I am no longer married. Getting away and staying away from him was the wisest thing I have done.

    18. My ResinSoul Long got knocked off the table and lost a small part of his ear, we never found the piece.

    19. He once fell on the ground and got a sketch on his nose...Another time he fell from the windowsill and broke his right hand...I'm such a careless mom >_<

    20. I was at a meet with another member in my community, I had my little YoSD standing next to someone else's SD on a bench in a park. I had my DSLR out and was crouched back a ways for the shot, the other girl was standing off camera in the case of random wind so the dolls didn't fall.

Needless to say, her doll buckled anyway and took out my YoSD on the way down, she landed in the grass and ended up with green on her face and a scratch in her blushing.

It look all my strength not to freak out about it, what was the point of "spotting" the dolls if they're going to hit the ground anyways? :doh
