    9. My first doll is still with me, and I bought the perfect first doll.

In March of 2011, I discovered BJDs from my friend Cassie, who brought hers to a sleepover. I held it in my hands, and I immediately knew that I wanted one. I've always been fond of dolls, and these are the ultimate dolls, so I just had to have one. My parents thought it was ridiculous, but I was sixteen and my parents have always let me spend my money my way. (Funnily enough, they predicted this would last three months since my friends had them. I ended up outlasting all of my friends.) I searched a bunch of molds, mostly females and tinies, which is odd, considering what I ended up buying and absolutely loving. During the summer of 2011, I worked my butt off to earn money for a doll.

It was funny how I decided what doll to get. Cassie had told me about Bobobie, and I looked at their sculpts. I absolutely fell in love with the Bobobie Apollo, particularly his nose. I developed his basic character outline and worked to earn marketplace access. I finally earned in August of that year. The very first day I had access, I found a Bobobie Apollo. He wasn't quite what I had wanted, being Light Tan instead of Normal, and had a little damage, but my impulse won out. I reserved the doll, which was a great price and came with extras that I still use. But then my parents said that I had to completely clean out and redo my room before I could have him. I spent a whole agonizing weekend doing it, worrying about not making the Monday deadline. I enlisted the help of my friend, and together, I managed to earn my doll. My mother took my cash and used her PayPal to pay for him.

When he arrived, I was ecstatic. I had been waiting for the post man in the front yard, and I believe I had just gone inside when they pulled into the driveway, which meant they had a package. There was a huge letdown when they pulled out an Amazon box. But then, they pulled out a long brown-papered package, and I knew it was my doll. I basically attacked that poor mail carrier and ran into the house with the box. I called my friend, who had agreed to photograph the event, and she could not get there fast enough. She photographed his box opening, and I still don't have the pictures. But that's okay. I absolutely loved my doll at first sight, and immediately put in the purple glass eyes I had bought for him. (I had retrieved ear plugs from the mechanic across the street) He was perfect and gorgeous, and still is to this day. His character is my personal favorite out of all those I have created. His wig and mechanical eye arrived the next day (his wig, unlike it looked in the pictures, goes down to his butt! It's so fabulous though so I'll never cut it to his shoulders where it was meant to be), and I took him to a block party that my mentor was hosting. I obsessed over him the whole time, and probably should have left him at home, but just couldn't.

The first few nights I had him, I was worried because I used to be afraid of the other dolls I had in my room. But, in one of my dreams, he sat up in his blue box, still wearing his previous owner's designs. I asked him how he liked it at my house and he said, "I like it much better here." I was never afraid to have a doll in my room after that. He had been so kind in the dream, and we had a whole conversation.

I have no regrets over this doll, and he's usually my favorite, even now, when I just hit my three-year mark for this hobby. It's just odd that he was the exact opposite of what I had been looking at, he was a huge 60cm doll and a boy, when I was looking at girl dolls, all under 45cm.

Another odd thing that happened: The night before I got him, I had a dream about the inside of his head. It was covered in the remnants of black putty. I dreaded him coming like that, but when I opened his head up for the first time, I was shocked, because it looked exactly as it had in my dream. I had never seen any pictures of it or anything. O.o
