Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What's more important, the HEAD, BODY, or BOTH?

Mar 13, 2017

    1. Head, you can put him on a bust atleast! :)

    2. I'll echo others here and say the head is the most important to me. Of course, bodies are important to, but it's the head sculpt I notice the most. Plus like others said, bodies can always be changed.

    3. The head, mostly because it's the only way I can have some very expensive dolls. I hybrid a lot. Bodies I'm more particular about proportion and suitability to the character than anything else. Sometimes I hybrid because of that and sometimes because I have an expensive head that I want a less expensive body for.

    4. I'd have to say the head, it's the most expressive and most visible portion of the doll, as the body will be covered in clothes most of the time. You can just do a lot more with it.

    5. Both are important, but I've found that bodies are really make-or-break for me. I guess it's a little silly because the body can be so easily hidden with clothes, but it's super important to me. Maybe it's because I'm a little too nervous about resin matching for hybrids right now, plus I find you can change the vibe of a sculpt pretty drastically with eyes and wigs and how the face is painted, but yeah I really REALLY care about the bodies lol

    6. Hmm... That's a hard question.

I would have to say "both." You need a sturdy body that looks the way you want and has good mobility, but the head is also important because, at least for me, that tends to be what I fall in love with when it comes to dolls. But if the body doesn't have good articulation, then it's a no-go for me.

    7. For me it’s both, because most of my characters have a certain background story. And also I feel like the body shape and posablity matters. And how the joints look when posing too. Although I’m picky so haha.

    8. I'm super set on what head im going to get but id be happy with any of a few different bodies that all look vaguely similar.

    9. I think the head is probably the most important, it’s what I think most look at first and it sets the tone for who your doll is. But I know personally the body can make or break a doll for me. If it’s the wrong body type or if there’s sculpting details I don’t like (personally not a fan of too many details or the way some joints look) it can turn me off of a doll. In the same way tho there have been bodies that make me want to buy a doll because I love the proportions or the way a certain part looks. Let’s just say I was in awe the first time I saw a hybrid. I hadn’t even considered taking a he’d you liked and putting it on the body you wanted. Amazing!

    10. Head is most important to me! I don’t feel haunted by an expressive body sculpt the way I do by an expressive face.

    11. I think head is more important to me as I pay more attention to the head but I can't really say the body is not important either...*_*

    12. Few months ago, head is more important to me. But nowadays I think both of them are important. Some of clothes fit with certain body, so I’m gonna buy them soon.

    13. Personally, I think the head is important the most and body comes second. For me I just have to have the exact facial features I want.

    14. I would say both personally. Though I probably lean more towards the face. How do you say no to a pretty face?

    15. Both, when it comes to the body I want them to be able to easily sit on their knees. It is why I love Doll Leaves.

    16. For me it’s both, but if I purchase a sculpt that I’ve been wanting to buy for a long time without being able to purchase the body for it at first, I would be fine with that.

    17. The head is the most important to me since it's pretty much the main part of the doll that you see and where the main character of the doll comes from, but the body is also important since the way the body looks and how it poses adds a lot to the doll's character. A good body can enhance the features of the head, but the head will always come first.

    18. Head. The bodies don't change very often. Heads are mostly one shots and then pray they show up on secondary market.

    19. Both matter to me but the head slightly moreso! The face is what draws me in initially

    20. Undoubtedly both for me ! I don't have a doll yet, but bjd for me is a way to give a little bit of tangeability / real life to a pre-existing character, either from a fandom or an OC of mine - my plans are 100% shelling plans. So the body needs to fit the character as well, as the head, it's an important part of them.
In addition, I'm not face blind, but it takes me time to "learn" the face of people i don't see everyday, and in the meantime the body type/silhouette is one thing that help me recognise people, like "this is not X because this person is very lean, i remember X is stout" ; i think it would bleed into how i would interact with the doll if they had a different body than what i see them having in my mind / in the source material ('who are you.')
Beyond that i love realism and alas it makes me super picky as well for the body, in terms of sculpting and engineering. Having a cool / pretty face on top of a simple / interchangeable / not as-realistic-as-the-face body would feel a bit like having the face of the Mona Lisa with a body drawn in stick figure.
