What's your favorite kind of stand?

Sep 21, 2004

    1. My favorites is one sold by CoolCat, it has a heavy transparent plexiglass base, and a very sturdy saddle. The transparent base is elegant and discreet, it's only drawback is the price it's quite expensive. Wether they are waist grabber or saddle stand, what's important is the weight and size of the base, if it's flimsy the doll might tip over.

    2. -looks at the thread- O.O
i looked through like, 10 pages with the word "doll stand" o.O

      anyways.

So the best one so far are the saddle stands? Cause I'm really afraid that my doll will tilt off the sides of them... >_<

    3. i don't use stands, but i would like too. my dolls have their own furniture but it took so many place, right now i got two full shelves, one for msd and second for sd dolls, and there's a problem with sd because i have a problem with space, so one sd alays sist somewhere else, i think the stand would resolve the problem but when it comes to buying it i prefer spending my money for wigs ><'

    4. I also don't use them. And I don't like them too much.
I think they like cuddling or sitting on my shelf and reading manga more then standing. ;)

    5. No stands, rather prop them up against a wall or like, my #1 thing is dolls have to be able to stand, except in one guy's case, but that is only because he is a couch potato so don't expect him to stand a lot in pics.

    6. I use stands only for shoots that require extreme and otherwise impossible posing. A stand coupled with Photoshop's clone stamp tool goes a lonnnng way.

Otherwise, my little resin peeps sit very nicely on their tables. :)

      Edit:
Oh... looks like a semi-related thread got merged with this one? Uh... sorry, meant to answer the original question, not the "which type."

    7. I bought the waist grabber type from Dollmore, but have no chance to use it. My intention is to use it when I measure them for clothes or do some fitting on them, I think it is easier when I don't have to worry whether they will fall on their face or not.
As for photographing, I don't prefer doll stand, I prefer them to stand on their own.

    8. Which brand stand is the best? Volks?

    9. http://www.doll-zone.com/showproduct.asp?id=55

That is Orlando (Or Amélie =p)

Now, I understand she can stand upright with no stand very well just like pretty much every ball jointed doll. But I still want a support of some sort, some people have had their dolls fall over and I paranoid about that, I am very paranoid in general so I need a stand. Problem is, what should I look for?

There are a variety of styles, heights and types that go for different doll types, I just want to make sure I get one that will fit with this BJD. Any recommendations?

I tried a search just now but couldn't actually find a topic relating to it. :/

    10. Dollmore sell a variety of stands in different sizes to fit most BJD sizes ^_^ Unfortunately, I can't get that page to load on my work computer, but I'm sure they at least do 1/3 and 1/4 size stands =3 Hope that helps a little!

    11. Hello! My friend has an Orlando too! Well, I know some people use regular doll stands, like the ones they sell at Michaels and Joanns. I used one too at one point but I didn't think it was stable enough, so I bought an actual SD stand from Volks. Their stands can be found here: http://www.volks.co.jp/en/goods/index_goods.aspx?sbct=9&sbct=132&sbct=133 I love their stands- they are very secure and do not wobble! When buying one, you want to get the "SD" size stand; there are wooden and metal types to choose from and waist and saddle types as well. The saddle type is good if you plan on your girl wearing a lot of dresses because the stand is not very noticable.

    12. I currently have a 1/6 and 1/3 dolls and i want to get them some stands but this got me wondering... What doll stand type really? Saddle or the one that grabs their waist?
Which do you prefer for your dolls and why?

    13. This probably isn't Debate as much as General Discussion but I use waist grabbers. For one, I couldn't find the saddles but I also feel a little safer leaving mine in waist grabbers since a few of them have wobbly legs.

    14. Depends on desired display: skirts vs pants methinks. A saddle stand is easily concealed under a full length skirt. A waist stand will deform the back of a very poofy "renaissance" skirt.

Both can support the weight of a doll well enough, though I'd say the saddles are a little more durable since the weight is supported directly and not at an angle with a hinge.

    15. I don't think weight is an issue (but I'm an MSD-only girl), since my dolls' legs lock - the stand is just to make sure their balance stays. I'm a fan of the waist-grabbers, just because I feel more secure leaving them unattended on my desk or in a group photo-op if I know they can't be knocked off/out of their stand.

    16. Hehe, yeah, not a debate. ^^ But a good question for discussion.

I only use waist-type stands because I only have boy dolls. Only once did I put a boy doll into a straddle-stand in public... it was a rather famously well-endowed Iplehouse boy, and he was wearing tight leather pants, and with that saddle clamped over his... >.<!!! ... It was making passersby wince. After awhile, he was making ME wince. "Ow, sweetie, looking at you is making my phantom cojones hurt. Please just sit down."

A saddle stand is good for dresses or long coats, because it vanishes up the skirt & you can't see it at all. But if your doll's crotch is going to be showing, at all, then use a waist-type. Unless you're into comedy, or are lonely & want a guaranteed way to get passersby to talk to you.

Durability doesn't have depend on the type, either-- it has to do with the construction & materials. Just get a good one with a broad base & a stem that doesn't feel like you could bend it with one hand. Make sure it's going to be long enough for your doll's legs while s/he's wearing shoes. And, if you have an especially tall/ heavy doll, get a stand with an extra-wide base... a big boy like an SD16 can be so top-heavy he may tip over even a secure stand. (Near-disaster experience with Yukinojo talking, here! A good stand is a good investment!!)

    17. Mine are waist grabbers too, but most of mine are from porcelain dolls that I have picked up cheap from second hand shops! They work well for MSD, and today I picked one up for a tiny size! Currently my Glati is on it.

    18. As others have stated, I swap back and forth depending on which is best for the outfit. :)

    19. I use doll stands for my bigger dolls (Soom Super Gems) because they take up less room while standing. I use saddle type for both male and female because I find that it supports the heavy doll better. I also like how it is easier to take a doll off a saddle type rather than a waist-grabber type. The stands I use are Cool Cat saddle type for 70cm dolls -- they are very strong and support a lot of weight.

I think for very tall and heavy dolls a saddle type would be best. For lighter dolls waist-grabber or saddle type would be equally good.

    20. If the doll is wearing a dress I prefer the saddle stand. I really don't like the kind that go around the waist, they bunch the fabric and it looks bad. But if the doll is wearing pants then I use them, because the saddle stands look kind of perverted with pants :P
