What's your favorite kind of stand?

Sep 21, 2004

    1. I have one of my boys standing, constantly, on one of those metal stands. I have also used them at a doll display table at a con, and they were no mishaps. i think as you say the only flaw with them could be if they were knocked over, or if you had an espically tightly strung doll, which kept "kicking" and not keeping the standing pose.

The best type of stand I think would be the type that has a support under the groin and around the waist, and a sturdier base. or displaying your dolls in a sitting position.

    2. I use the metal waist stands on occasion with my sd sized dolls. Its generally to help with standing when I'm doing photo shoots in my garden as 2 of my larger dolls are unreliable standers. (That and I can hide the fact I'm using a stand as the both wear long flowing clothes). I don't have any problems using the stands in the garden even in a fair breeze, neither of the dolls are kicky tho so I can't comment on if they would support a kicky doll. When I'm displaying them at home I don't use stands as they live in a display cabinet and can be trusted to stand without falling.

    3. I have found that as long as the base is on a flat solid surface they are ok.

I like to anchor it with a weight on the base plate. I'ts just a precaution. I made a lilypad (shape) cushion and filled it with marbles. It sits flat for my DES to stand on.

    4. Mine are just leaning against the wall I dont trust dollstands, and good ones tend to take up so much space. I think it is safe as long as the knees and legs are straight, they wont topple over.

    5. I'm not a big fan of doll stands myself. But they are safe to use. Especially if you get one with a good heavy base on it.

    6. I think I heard that saddle stands are better than waist supporting stands, I don't know how accurate that is? When I store my dolls they either lie flat in their boxes or I put them in a sitting position on my bookshelf. I do want to get a stand for displays and such, so if someone could help with the saddle stand versus waist stand that would be great :D

    7. I also would like to know this...

      Saddle VS Waist Stand.

I'm looking at the nice wood-based Volks ones.

    8. I actually use both the saddle stands and the waist stands, and they are both just fine. I was a tad nervous at first, but my dolls are standing for over 2 months now without any problems. :)

Its whatever you prefer. I use the saddle stands for my SDs and the waist stands for MSDs.

    9. I hope this is the right place to post this,if not please feel free to move it to a better place.

I was wondering if people use stands to display their dolls when they arent playing with them?

I have two dolls right now, with more on the way,and right now my two girls are sitting at the bottom of my enclosed doll shelf across from each other.:nowords:

It doesn't really show them off to their best advantage,or their clothes. I probably could just stand them up on their own..but I dont want to risk it.

Where is a good place to get attractive/reliable stands for 60cm dolls such as elfdoll, dollzone, iplehouse, dream of doll??

Any help or advice would be most apreciated!!:aheartbea

    10. I don't use stands. My dolls have their own furniture that they sit on (or near, for the little ones).

Though I really would like to have stands for some dolls to show off their outfits better and prevent those sit-down-wrinkles some get. I always put off buying stands though 'cause 1) the shipping is expensive and 2) dolls on stands take up more vertical room, and not all of my shelves are tall, and 3) even on stands I worry that the cat could knock them over :sweat

    11. I'm a firm believer in stands... When we only had two dolls they could sit on a sofa, but nowadays we simply have too many dolls! I also mislike the wrinkles some clothes get if the doll is sitting...

The best stands of all those I have encountered are definitely Volks stands. Excepting Araki-sensei stands, of course!

This is our crowd - we call it The Platform, since they look like they're waiting for a train!

    12. Stands are a good investment IMO. I've seen too many dolls crash.

    13. Nope! When they're not being toted around, my boys sit on my bedside table. :)

    14. Yes, I have purchased stands for my dolls and I do have some of them displayed that way. Others are sitting on doll furniture I have purchased for them too.

I get my stands from a wonderful Ebay seller 'rebad'. She will even make them specifically for a doll if you can give the measurements to her.

    15. I keep my dolls in boxes when they're not out with me, but I do have one stand that gets shared around a little. My two Shoyos are the ones who need it the most, I think.

    16. So far, everyone sits on their couch, including one of my floating heads (the other is the practice head who sits on the dresser at their feet). I just got 2 more chairs, so I'll be good for a little while. I do plan to get some stands (actually forgot to get some this past weekend) just to have in case I want them. At some point there'll be enough hanging around that I'll need stands, I'm sure.

    17. Mine stand leaned on my dollshouse walls which is pretty more a shelf.
I also dont like them to sit to much because of the knitting issue with clothes.
Ifd got more dolls Id probably get stands too, (when all walls they're leaning on will be full^^)

    18. If you plan to display your doll(s) standing, then doll stands are essential. Even if the doll stands really well on his(her) own or you have him(her) leaning against something, you really don't want to take the chance of bumping into the cabinet/shelf/desk where you have your doll displayed and knocking your doll over! I have done that. I was making clothes for my first doll and I left her standing on her own. I nudged the table I had her and the sewing machine on and she fell into a sitting position (which was actually kind of cool), but she knocked a hand against the table which resulted in a broken finger.

When I display my dolls, they are usually sitting (I have my Harin sitting on my printer watching me while I work on the computer). But I do have a stand in case I do want them standing, which is usually when I am sewing. Even if you usually have your dolls sitting on display, it never hurts to have a nice stand in case you need one. You can find some relatively inexpensive stands, so it wouldn't hurt to invest in one just to be on the safe side.

    19. I have a stand but never really use it, when I'm not playing with him he is tucked away in a cabinet to keep the sun off him. I do think they are a good investment if your going to display your dolls standing up or want them standing at doll meets.
