What's your favorite kind of stand?

Sep 21, 2004

    1. I always use a dollstand when I take an outdoor photoshoot in this way:

So that I can take picture like this:

This is a kind of doll stand developed by SELEN'S which can install on a camara tripod.
By raising up the doll I can take pictures that the dolls look like in human scale~

BTW, I always use a doll stand for outdoor photoshoot, I can't stand to let them fall.

For my minidollfie dream, I have to use a doll stand even at home cause their head are are so large that they can't stand well on their own!

    2. I don't use stands...because none of mine stand when I'm not around. All my SDs sit on their shelves...And my MSDs/tinies sit on furniture on the shelves. X3

    3. Oh, Belial - that's precisely what my husband and I have been talking about...! Just what we need for those outdoor photos!

    4. Yeah~That's why I am in love with this doll stand and planning to buy one which can hold two dolls together.

For outdoor photoshoot I always want to take pictures that the dolls look real. That is, they can blend well with the environment. Raising them up (by the stand and tripod) really helps. Now I don't need to hold them up with one arm and holding the camera with the other!

BTW, Ithil say hellow to Himeno~XD

Another pictures taken using the same set up, I just love how Ithil looks so natural with the beautiful architecture.

    5. I'm usually too lazy to deal with doll stands, so my dolls are always sitting or lying down unless I'm actively playing with them or photographing them. Most of them stand pretty well on their own, with the exception of my older Lati Red boy and my older Elfdoll girl (both have kind of "weak knees"). I do have one doll stand that I take with me to display dolls at meetups, but I doubt I'd use them much more often than that.

That being said, that tripod-stand for photo shoots is a great idea... I'm going to look into that one. ;)

    6. I have 2 doll stands, but never use them, since I prefer my dolls to stand on their own when I'm taking photos. It looks more natural and I don't have to photoshop visible parts of the doll stand out of the picture thereafter.

    7. Most of the time mine stand pretty well on their own. Though, sometimes they have weird shoes that make it impossible. When they aren't in use they're sitting down on a shelf or my desk. Even with a stand I'd be worried about knocking them over if they were standing. So the only time they're generally standing is for photos, in which case I wouldn't want a stand anyway.

I've discovered, though, that my old American Girl doll stand works pretty well. It's far from perfect, obviously, but it does the job if they need to stand on a table at convention or something (I sell clothes, and they model better when standing). Besides, I already had it.

BTW, that tripod stand is a great idea. I never thought of raising them up before. I'll have to make a platform to attach to my tripod and play around with it.

    8. I have never used stands, most of my dolls stand independently (we even left three standing in our lounge, on the floor, for a whole week and event he cats did not knock them over...we were crazy) and sit on shelves and couches when they are not in "use" If I did have a full display I would use stands however, simply because any long standing period I would feel better with a bit of support under my beauties

    9. I found this stand on LUTS but I have no clue how you'd even use it. I mean... do you stick it up their bums or something? From the other example on the site (which showed it in use), it doesn't look like it goes around the waist,

I've been trying to find a doll stand that works for my 60" and 61" dolls. (They have some minor posing issues. When you try to sit them, they snap back sometimes. sometimes they'll be posing fine, then just snap back out of no where for no reason.)

So I thought I'd find a doll stand... come to find, many doll stands sold at craft stores and such, are not meant for such big heavy dolls. So I'm in a pickle. lol

    10. That's a saddle stand, you stand the doll with the metal curve in between the dolls legs. They're some of my favorite type of stands~

    11. that's a saddle stand, the "U" shaped thing is the saddle..... it goes between the doll's legs and holds them up by the crotch area. it won't help with sitting, but it will allow a doll to stand on their own. one thing that's good about it, is you can hide it (for the most part) by a long, full skirt.

    12. It goes up and the doll, for lack of a better term, sits on it. It goes up in between the legs, and the doll straddles it.

Man, everybody beat me to it! XD

    13. ok. So that would probably work. If I can get them to stand on their own without colapsing, I'd be happy.

It's weird, I can pose them for pictures, but when I want them to sit to be displayed... they just won't cooperate. lolol

    14. It'll keep them upright, but it won't necessarily prevent slouching, so make sure your doll doesn't like to bend forward a lot ^^

    15. HA!! X'D Stick it up their bums...?
Cloooooose. You got the bum part right, like everyone else said. Between their legs you put em on :3

    16. Lol! Sorry, there was no polite way of putting it. hee hee

    17. I've been trawling the net for doll stands [yes, because the company ones are quite expensive. /bricked] and I've been stumped by the variety of doll stands that are offered by people online.

      1) Saddle Doll Stand.
One where you have the doll sitting on a U shaped prong with the prong ends on the front and butt of your doll

      2) Waist Grabber
Yes, my own term, also the most commonly seen on around the block. U shaped prong grabs your kid by the waist and holds it [hopefully]

So far, these have been the ones I've seen; So here's my question 3 minutes to my bedtime:

      1) Which one do you use?
      2) Which ones work better?
      3) Where did you get yours from? [If it was some random online shop, SHARE! /kicked into drain]
      4) Would you let you kid stand with a doll stand that has a wooden or metal base at an exhibition?

    18. I bought a great saddle wooden based doll stand from Dollmore and was really impressed with the quality and studiness of it. I woul dhighly recomend Dollmore doll stands.

    19. I have a dollmore waist grabber for large dolls. Personally I am not very fond of it.
When I place my 70cm dolls in it, I am still afraid that they will fall over. It doesn't look stable at all.
And at the ends of the waist thingie, the plastic end protectors (or how you call them), got off really quick. And I was afraid to death that they would leave black marks on my dolls. So far it hasn't done any damage, and I glued it back on now.

I haven't tried the saddle ones yet, nor other waist grabbers.

    20. I think I would prefer to have a saddle stand but I've never used one. I have a "waist grabber" from that I got from the Artmaze/Elfdoll showroom in Glendale,CA for my 60cm and it holds her quite well. I also have "waist grabbers" for my 43cm dolls that I got from Michael's Arts&Crafts store (they're made for teddy bears) and it works well since my dolls are lightweight.
