1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

whats your ideal number of dolls

May 25, 2019

    1. Preferably, I'd like no more than 10 dolls. After that, I think that the number of dolls would be overwhelming. I also simply don't have enough space or time for more than 10 dolls.

    2. I thought that even 10 would be too much, but I've already ordered 4 dolls and I've just barely started getting into the hobby...

    3. Now that I've got 10 (8 SD, 2 tinies), I'm putting a hard stop on acquisitions. At this point if one comes in, something else has to exit.

So I guess the answer is 10, for me.

    4. I’ve finally finished shelling all my characters at last, bringing me to a grand total of 45, which was accomplished over the course of 15 years (so roughly 3 dolls per year.) Now my collection is complete!:)

    5. Hahahaha, I have 15 dolls and who knows how many heads, but there's something super romantic to me about the idea of having that 1 doll that just inspires me you so much and you can pour so much creativity into them. I keep wanting to trim down my collection, but I struggle with what to sell.

    6. I have about 13? And then I've got some on the way.. but the 13 I have here really feel like about enough. They're making me a little antsy because I have too many projects lined up now.

The wait times issue really kind of caused me to "forget" I had a few coming :sweat but I don't regret the ones I purchased in the meantime for the most part.

I just don't know if I'll want to sell some or not, because each one I purchase definitely has a character and craft plan, so the idea of selling some makes me feel like I'm giving up on a whole project lol

    7. I would like to only have a small amount, like five buuuut........considering there is just to many beautiful dolls in this world for that to be a possibility, the number is to be determined.

    8. It's 5 dolls now (4 boys, 1 girl, I'm working on getting a girl now).

But I thought about having no more than three dolls half a year ago so I won't be surprised if this number goes up. -__- Buying dolls is an attractive activity.

    9. Congrats on the accomplishment! How are you feeling about it now that you are "done"?
I'm curious because I've had other hobbies/collections that I've quickly lost interest in once I felt it was complete but with bjd, even after 15yrs like yourself, I don't know if I'll ever reach that point. I'm always changing my goal and never felt complete.

    10. Ha! Funny you should ask...I did so well with the “completeness” of my collection for the first 6 months of this year. Oh, I’ve been tempted (especially by Luts’ fantasy resin summer event.) Yet I managed to hold firm...BUT just this morning I was perusing the News section here on DoA, as you do, keeping up on the latest...AND there he was: the perfect best friend for one of my beloved crew! Instant disaster to all my well laid plans! I just fired off an email inquiry to BJDivas.:doh So epic fail on not adding anymore dolls…even though he is a rather special unique case, being a character I’d given up on ever shelling, but still had in mind.:sweat

But as far as enjoying a completed collection goes, I am still truly fine with it. I still consider my collection “complete” as far as my stories go within the world I sought to create with my dolls...and that was my main goal. This new boy will be more of an “enhancement” to a pre-existing character, adding depth rather than change or a new direction. I can still consider my doll goals pretty much met and done, and I’m just fine with that. I haven’t missed the creating new stories or new characters part (even though I certainly worried about that at first.) I guess I truly have told all my stories and now I’m just sitting back to enjoy them and not actively searching for new major characters or ideas anymore. But as this morning has taught me, special enhancements (whether through an addition or creative pursuit) may still occasionally happen, so I need to remain open. That freedom, I think, is integral to my continued enjoyment of this hobby. I’m just happily working within a creative pre-defined box is all, which is fine because I have no desire to go outside it anymore.:) And anything new will simply be “folded into” what already exists, via display space and storyline, rather than taking a new, more expanding direction.

    11. This is tough because I'm attracted to so. Many. Sculpts. My wishlist just keeps growing but realistically maintenance and re-customizing means only 10? 15? would be my max. Eventually I'd like to set the upper limit with an armoire dedicated to storing dolls, and might eventually zero in on a certain sculpting style or level of detail to keep exclusively.

    12. @PoeticSoul thanks for sharing. There really are so many ways to enjoy the hobby. Obtaining all the dolls you want doesn’t necessarily end ones collection or involvement and it’s nice to hear you are still finding new ways to enjoy them.

    13. I wanted my dolls less than 3, but now it‘s already 5 xD But I‘m trying not over 10.

    14. Emmm, I think it's 10 to 20 for me due to limited space.

    15. Well, it's been a week only and the number already went up to 6.

      I need help =/

    16. Long time ago I thought that I need only one doll... Ha-ha
I bought one doll, second doll... Now I have 12 dolls and 2 heads and one in a way to me. And I want more :XD:

    17. I'm at 19 dolls (1 of which incoming) and some heads that might or might not ever get bodies of their own (I really hope to get one of them a body due to having a fairly special bodytype, the others can share) and only really have had 1 doll in my wishlist for a few years now. At most in my 12+ year hobby life now, I've had some 57 dolls at one time but the number kept getting smaller and smaller over the years.

My "busiest" year looking at my profile was 2018 with 8 new individuals added, but one might notice only 4 are full dolls and as a matter of fact 1 of them only got his body last year and two of the heads (a dollfie dream basic head and the obitsu) were gifts. In addition that followed on the heels of a massive purge of over 30 dolls between 2016 and 2018. Then 2019 follows with five, out of which 1 was a prize I won from a photography competition by my favourite sculptor. 2020 saw three dolls, one of which could only be acquired after I sold another significant chunk of my collection and lastly this year has seen one doll go and one ordered with no plan for more.

All in all... I don't think I'll ever buy "more" dolls. I have been hovering around the 20 mark either slightly above or bellow it for a really long time now so that must be my "ideal" number I guess. I'm mostly interested in getting new outfits now and even just working on my dolls as I've gotten very busy in life as of late and really miss spending more time with them.

    18. There are still four sculpts in "would be nice to have-" territory for me, but by and large, I really do feel like my collection is done at this point otherwise. My collection's upper limit has always been based more on what would fit in my display cabinets than a set number, and I'm there now. The cabinets are full and I refuse to let the gang take over more than that set amount of space in my house, so... no more room in the proverbial inn.

Still... I've ended up with quite the resin tribe over the last sixteen years. Maybe someday I'll go through and reassess again, sending some of them off to new homes. Periodically looking over and refining a collection is just a necessary part of having one, I think. Rather that refining results in open space and room for new additions or will just be a downsizing? Who knows. It could go either way.

    19. Originally, I only planned a few but I keep finding more. I typically end up needing others to go with their other halves so I don't think I'll have a limit until I just stop?
Luckily though, I don't buy many to begin with. I have above 15, not Including heads.

My plan is next move, I'll have a whole bedroom or two to myself.

    20. One more!
