whats your ideal number of dolls

May 25, 2019

    1. With the way my brain works, I am literally only limited by space. It's the only reason I have considered selling collectables to make room for more bjds....

    2. I think my ideal is probably 10, or more acheivably 15. A couple years ago I was at around 30 and now I'm at around 20, (excluding any dolls already for sale and therefore mentally gone) so I am starting to believe it's possible. But at any rate, this is better :3nodding:

    3. I've currently got 7 at home, 4 being made and 2 in the post on their way to me. In terms of size, 4 MSDs, 7 SDs and 2 Uncles.
As for numbers, my ideal amount will be as many as I can fit in my limited space, have characters for and can sew for. Of only I had unlimited resin money, haha

    4. I would say it would be based on space limitations. If I had an infinite amount of space (and money) i would keep collecting. I would want to buy the amount I could based on the size of my home until there isn't enough space for me to move, but realistically I think maybe one living room full and one bedroom full seems like a good amount. I don't want the dolls all over the place there is a chance it would fall down. Then my dogs will be able to eat it. I don't want to really invade my sister room with my dolls.

I won't give an exact number because i might move and get a bigger or smaller home throughout my life that will probably determine how much dolls I have.

    5. I couldn't see myself with more than 10! But at the same time, I love too many tinies that I'd made an exception for them... at the very least, tinies don't take up much space.

    6. I think my ideal is 10 or less. I'm still at the point where I think 5 is my limit / I've covered my bases of what I want, but I think 10 as a total cap leaves some wiggle room for if sometime down the line I see a sculpt I can't live without.

Right now I'm primarily someone interested in SDs, though, so that influences my decision a lot. I'm already not sure how much space 4 SDs are going to take up (not even counting the storage of clothes/shoes/wigs/etc). But I think 4 is a good number for duo/group pictures and gives me variety in who I want to photograph on a given day. My 1/6 doll is likely going to continue getting solo pictures by herself due to the size difference, so it's nice to have multiple dolls in the same range for photoshoots.

    7. I would have to say 40. It sounds the proper amount of unachievable for me and also low enough that I could feasibly get close and feel good about not going over, lmao. But no, in all actuality, I'd honestly rather keep it close to maybe 25 or less just because keeping up with them over the years between moves and stuff would be a pain otherwise. Unfortunately stability is not exactly something I can count on forever. So far I haven't gone past 15, so who knows, I might naturally gravitate towards a certain number I comfortably keep.

    8. Mine is around 15, even if I have more at the moment. There are many sculpts I like, but I like to make stuff for them and if I have more then 15, I don't have the time for them.

    9. So when I started collecting, I figured 20 was more than plenty. I now know that I'm over 30. And honestly? The people who have 100 or more? #lifegoals
I want dolls hanging from every corner of the house. I want people to turn around and jumpscare from one of my dolls peering out at them. I want to have dolls on walls and shelves and sitting at the table. I want dolls on display in my bedroom, living room, and partying like rockstars in the Craftorama room.
None in the bathroom tho. I've heard... stories. :ablah:

    10. I think 2 or 3 is actually perfectly enough for me. I want to give them all enough attention and I don't see having enough brainspace for any more than that. If I found a new doll I really wanted, I would probably let go of another one that has grown less precious for me. Looking at my other hobbies and interests, I've always regretted going bananas with a lot of items so I know tons of dolls won't bring me the joy a small core group does (plus then I can also sustain spoiling them all :chibi)

    11. I could easily have 20 just with the dolls I really really love. As far as what my dear little brain can handle, that number has always hovered around 6-8 (and that means my own faceups for most of them, making all my own wigs and clothes, buying eyes and shoes). Right now I only have enough space in my apartment to comfortably display 2 or 3, so the rest have to stay packed away.

    12. I get multiples from one brand. I don't know what's enough yet because I still have room and am too chicken to just buy the head, accessories, outfit, etc and just swap out the parts.

    13. 7-13 would be the ideal. However, I am way past that. I do think the current amount that I have is manageable enough, even if it is waaaay past the original limit.

    14. No more than 15 I guess, but I'm not sure that is possible for me. Not without having to let go of many dolls.

I divide my dolls into doll families. I call them families, but for me it only means dolls that are part of the same background story, and, or belongs to the same kind of BJD style. And currently I got 4 doll families going on. All which would be difficult to part with. Some more than others but still difficult.

My ideal collection would be just one doll family. And if I were to let go of the others I'd keep my realistic style doll family. I'd still have fantasy sculpts but they would have to look realistic enough, or just fit well enough in with my Iplehouse dolls.

    15. I don't have a set number in my head. I have nine full size SDs and one itty bitty 1/6 scale doll and they all hang out on the same set of bookshelves. I guess if I hit a point where I was actively looking for space I'd decide there's too many but we've not reached that point (and probably won't).

    16. Ideally, less than double digits - so 9 dolls. I'm getting close to that with 5 dolls at home and 3 incoming. I shell OCs and go pretty deep with their character development and relationships, and my brain is currently quite full with 8 characters. If I get more dolls I'll have to split them into different casts to avoid getting overwhelmed... and I really don't want to do that.

I feel like crossing into double digits is just going to open a whole new realm of possibility can of worms, so I am determined to be contented with a house of 8.

    17. One million :drool

I recently hit my 80 mark and I'm trying to size down because of space issues, but the moment I own a home I will go nuts again lol.

    18. No more than 50, because it's aready a lot in my head and because my partner asked me to own no more than 50 dolls many years ago.
Currently I am above and am trying to size down.

    19. Generally I think my maximum of dolls is somewhere between 15 and 20 dolls, 20 being the absolute maximum already would feel somewhat overwhelming. Everything also depends on their size though and I can't see myself owning more than four SD sized dolls, and my prefered size is around 35cm, so 20 would be just about manageable, but I hope I can always keep it under 15.
So far in all my years in the hobby I've only had a maximum of 11 or 12 (with the average being around 8), so I think I'm doing pretty well in that regard:lol:

    20. I think my absolute limit is 8-10. Between BJDs and OT dolls I currently own five, but I just don't like having too many things in my room, so I can't see myself going too far beyond that.
