1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What's your ultimate dream costume for your bjd?

Jan 25, 2018

    1. I saw that and it was amazing. I've been lucky enough to see the Vittoria armour in person at a convention and it's absolutely as beautiful as it looked in the pictures, but it isn't actually metal iirc.

It's also unfortunately too big. I'm firmly an MSD size collector and my dolls top out at 51cm, who are more than big enough for me. I've seen SD sized dolls and they're just too big for me. Which is the other massive problem with a suit of armour like that, because I'd actually really like it for my 38cm doll.

    2. Hi @Crissaegrim :-) How cool you got to see those Sartoria J full-set dolls in person.

Was the armor made of material resin or carbon fiber?
      Which convention was that?

It's a shared dream to find an artisan who could craft an authentic medieval suit of armor in steel for MSDs. The savoir-faire for this craft is truly inspiring.

    3. I only got to see Vittoria. It was last year's UK BJDcon and someone had brought along their Vittoria with her armour so I didn't want to handle it that much (not that people weren't lovely and mostly quite happy to let you handle their dolls if you asked first but the combination of not-mine, large public forum, it being an accessory and knowing exactly how much it cost meant I wasn't going to investigate it as closely as I would have loved to do). I think it was resin, but that's based largely on my terrible memory and the deeply unscientific test of tapping it gently with a fingernail.

It wouldn't even have to be steel, I've had decent results with aluminium. It's still slightly bendy but that's the good bit about metal armour, it's got flex to it and you can usually nudge it back into shape.

    4. It's something I'll have to create myself in the future when I master sewing, but... I always loved the Plain Doll's design in Bloodborne. I'd love to have a doll with a similar outfit because I love how demure, detailed and elegant it looks.

Here's an image for the uninitiated.

    5. I hope to some day have a full ouji style costume put together for my AoD Chi. A charming princely style, white and pink and grey with lots of ruffles and lace and embroidery. Pretty and delicate but also a bit boyish and playful. That’s the dream!

As for my Resinsoul Ming, a whole wardrobe of interchangeable fantasy pieces that let me dress him for the season or for an adventure would be awesome. I’m trying to incorporate natural components and the look of visible mending into the things I make for him as much as possible so all has a bit of a “I live in the woods and found/made/repaired this myself” vibe. Hard to find the more natural/worn looking fantasy pieces for 1/4 scale boys. Small shells or bones or scales, wooden beads and buttons, mottled fabrics with a slightly faded-looking color, as though they were hand-woven and hand-dyed and have been lived in, bits of twine and feathers and petals woven into his braids. That sort of thing.

And of course some day I hope to have a shelf big enough that each of them can have their own layer, decorated as a little individualized living space that suits their aesthetic. But that’s a while other project haha.

    6. I’m currently trying to assemble my dream outfit for my dolls. It’s a set of fantasy armour. It starts with black shirts and pants, and a black coat that covers it. Then there’s a scale maille tunic that covers that, pauldrons, bracers, and probably leg armour that goes with all that. Then a silver, expressionless mask. Then also I need 11 identical sets of this that fit between a Resinsoul Bigger Boy Body, and a Twigling body, because the assassins that wear that armour are all supposed to look the same when they’re dressed up.

    7. Are there any clothes makers who deal in a Final Fantasy-ish aesthetic? Like a modernized Baroque. With BJDs being mostly Asian I would have expected a lot of it. I think the closest is Gem of Doll.

It's probably better this way since metal armor would probably weigh too much.

    8. I want beautiful frilly gowns (like Desers) for my iMda girls, ideally in a pattern or color that doesn't just look off-white in photos (pastel is okay, but some things are just too... pastel-y). There's an etsy maker who makes beautiful gowns for that size, but she's really pivoted into Blythe recently :( I'd also love a more rococo take on my future girl's webcomic character outfit (space suit)).

A gold-and-white fantastical-looking space suit for Anka (kind of like a fusion between sci-fi and art, as these suits were built to last generations).

If I ever do get that FID (and lack of clothes is partially why I haven't done it yet), I'd love to have a bunch of scale uniforms. Football uniform (with pads), full military flight suit, leather motorcycle uniform, dress uniform with actual in-scale trim and appliques. I'd have to make all of these and, eh. Not really my interest in the hobby anymore.

    9. Depends what you make it of. I've been using aluminium and I can't say weight has been a massive issue.
