When do you have too many dolls?

Dec 16, 2010

    1. My max will be 14. Because that's all the characters I have planned out and more than I have money for. Of course there are waaaaaay more dolls than that that I want. But once I get all my main characters and the dolls I've actually planned, I seriously doubt I'll get anymore.

Ok so my max MAY change, but for now it's gonna be 14. If by some chance I have another winfall and manage to have enough to Riku, Sora, Kairi, Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru as well as Illicorne and Chi-akki then my max will of course go up to 21, but that really would be it after that.

    2. "Too many" is when it becomes oppressive. When you no longer have adequate room to store/display them, when you go into debt over buying new dolls/doll items, when you neglect responsibilities/healthy life pursuits in favor of dolls, when itโ€™s no longer pleasurable and starts to feel like a burden.

I personally feel no guilt over not paying โ€œenoughโ€ attention to my large collection. I fuss over them when I have both the time and inspiration โ€“ luckily, being that they're objects, theyโ€™re completely forgiving. ; ) And as long as I stay active in the BJD community and can comfortably store and afford them, I will continue to add to my collection. (I do admire those that happily limit themselves to a smaller number of dolls, but Iโ€™m at ease in the fact that Iโ€™ve decided that Iโ€™m not that kind of collector.)

    3. l'm not sure on how many l will get or have. I have Patience and l'm wating for a Littlefee Lishe (Rini) and a Littlefee boy body whom l'm not sure is going to be yet so l guess that makes 3 dollfies.

    4. I have a considerable amount of BJDs and to some people it's far too many but for me it is not. Though I do not interact with them every day, I love to look at them and I appreciate them in that way. I have my little stories for them in my heads what they might sometimes be thinking when I have the time to walk into my doll room.

But one ought to always keep in mind that you shouldn't let your real life relationships, responsibilities, where you habitate and such suffer or go to pot for a what is simply a hobby.

    5. i think too many might be when you feel personally you have too many, i think everyones going to have their own personal idea of what too many is.
i myself have 5 dolls, one floating head and another doll i plan on bringing home soon :D to me i dont feel i have too many, but to some of my friends they think its enough xD;;; but each of my dolls are loved and played with equally and all have developed characters and stories :3 <3
as for a limit im not sure :0 whenever i think of a maxium of dolls i think i'd ever own, the number 23 always comes to mind xD (i dunno im strange like that) but i dont think i'll go past 10, at least not yet xD but again i might hit 23 and then a company might release a new model that i just cant go past *w* i guess only time will tell yeah xD?

i think as long as you dont neglect the other aspects of your life, other needs and wants, bills and things, friends and family, and you can manage the dolls you have (like they're not all sitting naked in piles of boxes somewhere, never to be played with again) then i dont see a problem with owning as many dolls as you want xD its your hobby, so you should be able to do whatever you please with it ^-^

    6. It's a personal thing really. I think too many is when certain dolls just can't be paid attention to because too many other dolls need work.

    7. I really should think seriously about this actually- I've only been in the hobby two years, and I've got 8 already... >.<

I think I'd have too many when I felt overwhelmed by dolls, and had even less money then I currently have as a direct result of it. I started to panic a little when I brought two home at the same time because I was fully aware of how much I'd just spent in about a month or two on two dolls. I started thinking that I wouldn't buy any more, and I'd go on a dolly-buying hiatus for this year as one of my resolutions. I know myself though- if I know anything, and I'm not going to stick to that.

As long as I am able to comfortably bond with my dolls (which means they all need eyes, a wig, a face-up, and an outfit to wear temporarily at least) I know that I'm okay, and I can manage. I guess I'll have too many when they no longer please me individually, I can't choose between them, some are left sitting for so long that they begin to gather dust, and I feel completely tragic every time I look at my horde. Then I'll have too many. I'm used to having a lot of dolls though- so we'll see where that goes...

    8. The comically dark part of me says I have too many if I can't take them all with me in case of a fire n_n;

But seriously..I definitely think the limit depends on the person. Twenty used to be too many for me, but now ten is my limit. It's just such a nice number and once I hit five dolls I wasn't sure how to divide my time between them anymore!

    9. Nevah!~

      bwahahahahaha!

    10. I have two dolls and that already feels like too many. XD
But I think it's different for everyone. If you have the money, time, and space for them then go ahead. ^^

    11. When you have nowhere to keep them, no storage space.

    12. as was said.. i think when you have to many dolls is when you think you have to many dolls.. so it just depends on you.. OOooorrr if your house is so full of dolls that you can no longer make way through out your home very well without bumping in to dolls and your friends cant come over because of this and no where to sit because its all taken up buy dolls lol..

    13. NEVER!!! No, seriously, I would say when you're running out of space. My space is getting quite crowded but so far I've managed to make room...

    14. When you dont have space at your house means you have too many dolls.
      Since i've only 1 i'm not worried!

    15. For me, once my collection hit 16 I had a definite feeling of "too many"; when I had a couple of floating heads and had no idea when, if ever, I'd ever get around to getting bodies for them and wasn't bothered by that, and certain dolls were getting neglected for months on end after I'd got them to the point where they were gathering dust. I realised there were a few dolls I was only holding onto out of nostalgia - whenever I wanted to do a photoshoot, there were certain dolls that I just never reached for, and it was getting hard to keep track of just how many I had.

So I decided to consolidate my collection down to those dolls I really enjoyed, stripping out the ones I don't feel a real attachment for. I sold off a couple of floating heads and gave a couple of dolls to my teens, and I'm currently down to 12 complete dolls and one floating head; there's at least one more complete doll I'm likely to get rid of, but the floating head will be getting a body, so the overall tally will stay 12. That seems to be my maximum comfortable limit.

Basically you have too many dolls when you think you have too many dolls. Only you can know how many that is.

    16. If you're falling short on your serious responsibilities -- be they financial, emotional, family, etc. -- in favor of the dolls, there's probably a problem. That can happen with 200, it can happen with one. It's going to vary for everybody. Pretty much what's been said before is my view also: when you feel you have too many is the best marker for it.

    17. i have 15 dolls at the minute..6 of those SD's which tend to be more 'visible' than the 3 msd's and most people dont even notice 6 tinies unless i mention them...its always the SD's that get the most comments...and those that get the most moans from my fiance about.. ''don't you think you have enough??''
personally i dont think i have too many tho i am limiting myself a bit now..
i only plan to get one or two more SD's (as i only have girls i feel i need a boy or two!) but as i havent found a mould i really like i know its going to be a long while before i get another
as for smaller tho...unfortunately the last 2 tinies i got have given me the fairyland and soom bugs ...i need more!!

    18. The moment I would take out a box, open it and see a head / body / full doll and wonder - "when the hell did I buy this one?" will definitely mean that I have too many of them around.

    19. I'm with you there. I just got my first boy first boy for Christmas and I'm really only planning on getting a doll to his significant other and one to be their son XD

    20. I believe you have too many when you run out of places to set them down when your not playing with them. But have no fear! This problem can easily be solved!! Buy more shelving:thumbup

Lol. you have too many when you think you do. Plain and simple
