1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When do you prefer to think of a character?

?
  1. Before actually getting the Doll.

    1. I have a characters in mind first, and after that I find the dolls who will be my characters.

    2. I chose before the doll gets here since I usually make my dolls into long standing RPG characters, so their chars are mostly ready for them once they make their way here.

    3. I tried to think a little about my doll's character as soon as she was ordered, but I really wasn't able to solidfy anything until she arrived. I was worried that I would concoct an elaborate character for her, and then open the box and the doll wouldn't fit that impression at all!

I don't really like to change toys to be existing characters that I've created--I like to see what it is about that doll that makes her unique, and what kind of impressions I get from her to form something beyond just a mass of very pretty and costly resin. ♥

However, during the wait for her to arrive it was just so hard not to think at all about what she would be like. :3

    4. I like to create the character for the doll, Get their story and personality right and how the character would react to things before buying the doll. If I don't I would probably buy clothing and find out that the character wouldn't wear those things.

    5. Usually the character is developed way before the doll for it is even thought of. I have had a few cases where the characters came after the doll(darn impulse buying.lol)

    6. I usually create my characters first, then after they arrive they often will show their own personality. Sometimes it is the same sometimes it is different. I have gotten used to a new doll evolving into her own character over time.

    7. It depends. Most of my dolls developed a personality and name after I got them, but some dolls I bought specifically for characters. I don't know which I prefer because if a doll surprises you by not taking on the character you wanted them to be, you're a bit stuck with clothes and wigs that don't suit them!

    8. I voted for the first one. Personally, thinking about the character first narrows down my choices among all the dolls. But I stick with the basics, like appearance, for example. Then that's where I start looking for the doll whom I believe fits the character I have in mind. After that, I'll let the doll develop its own personality. :) Guess that's just fair for the both of us. :D

    9. I don't have a doll yet but I am already thinking about his character. So now I have to find a nice sculpt for him.:)

    10. I always think on a character before o.o

I just ordered my first dolls, but I have a long list of characters that I want to transform on a BJD ^^

It doesn´t mean that I can create a character just for a BJD model that I saw somewhere, but I always think on the character first, and look for a BJD that fits with his/her personality.

    11. This issue cames to my mind over and over last days. I have ordered a doll but everytime I think of his name or character, I got nothing but a headache >.< I ordered him because I like how he looks, not because I have a character in mind.

I follow the same steps while drawing. It's in the process when I discover what personality actually fits my characters.

    12. i always buy a doll because i like her/his looks...sometimes i try to think of a cast or story for them, choosing a doll that fits my story...even before they arrive...but usually i end up only discovering their characters only over time....when i get to know them better.

    13. I have some characters I've already created the I'd like to make into dolls at some point, but as for my current two boys, their character developed while waiting and after they'd already arrived.
It could really go either way for me. ^^

    14. No....actually, I thought it was weird to create a character AFTER imo

    15. I seem to have a general well or pool of characters at any given time. Every once in awhile I'll either feel the urge to "inresinate" one or I'm browsing the marketplace or see something in News that fits.

Nevertheless it often happens that the doll, once it arrives, chooses another of these floating characters. My Bisou Ai Shushu, who's just arrived was slated to be some sort of haunted antique dolly for my Dollstown girl. But A) She's a bit bigger than I expected, and B) She's told me she's actually a robot child, something like Sumomo (but most definitely less noisy) in Chobits. This is just fine, as I'd been longing to "inresinate" this character for ages, but wasn't sure how to do it.

    16. All of my dolls are based off of preexisting character. For me, it's more about finding a sculpt to fit that character than just picking a pretty sculpt and then creating a personality for it.

    17. Most of the time, I do it after. It would probably help my wallet quite a bit if I planned out before. Then you're only buying for characters. Who knows though? ^^

    18. I say before.
Cuz when I create characters, it'll be a "oh, he needs this to complete the look" and then when I get that I'll see another unrelated thing and say the same.
Like a never ending pattern or something. And then in the end I'll say forget it. :doh

    19. Definitely beforehand for me (considering I don't any dolls yet XD) but the doll I'm saving for is supposed to be one of my pre-existing characters.

    20. It's easier for me to think about the character first, and then make the character 'fit' a mold. I also look at others dolls to make sure that they fit the exact look for him/her, otherwise I maybe disappointed... >< don't think I'd want that... heh.... Although, when I first got my very first doll, I didn't even think about him...I was just so angry that the doll i wanted went out of stock that, um...I just just bought some other doll; that which so happened to be a Crobidoll WS Lance, and I''m really happy that I got him ^^ I just got so attached to him, hehe. Kinda just like...happened ^^; who would of thought ><
