Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. When does it end, the doll acquisition stage?!

Jun 15, 2007

    1. I'm definitely in the new doll acquisition stage

    2. lol..I would say just be glad you are JUST into bjd's....I have seven, 2 msd's and 5 tinies. I have restrained myself considerably where the bjd's are concerned, as I am also into fashion dolls, Silkstone Barbie, Fashion Royalty, as well as a Tonner or Gene here and there. I am being tempted by others - Sybarites, and have had to do serious planning on how to pay for my addiction- er hobby. (I can stop anytime I want). lol.

I would say it is a just a matter of control, which when you see the dolls, is extremely hard to do...especially if that doll is the current holy grail you want, you need, you jest gotta have!

    3. Seriously. I have a nation. And 3 more incoming. My AE King should be here tomorrow. And I have two pukis being made.

    4. Never. Nevurrrrrrr.
Honestly, even though I had a set amount of dolls in my head, I continued to sell and buy another doll in return, so I don't think I'll ever stop buying... my tastes change so quickly really.
And I am still 2 dolls under my limit xD

    5. "End"?? O_o What is this "end" of which you speak?

    6. I don't think it ever does end, because even when you are content with the current family you have...you never know what may be released in the future that you may want to add to your family. I for one, am always buying it seems, and sometimes I have to sell some to acquire the "new must haves".

    7. I thought it would end after three dolls. I figured I'd shell my three favorite characters and go on with it. Now I have five dolls with five on the way and at least 2 more fully planned out. Sooooooooooooo.....

I'm just going to guess the end is NOT near. :D

    8. I am hoping that I can set a cap on how many I will allow myself and stick with that number. Of course, I already mentally raised my limit number... sigh...

    9. Haha! Well, luckily (in a way) for me, I really don't have much of an income at this moment, and definitely not enough to buy a new doll, especially my next goal. But I am always looking at new dolls! And particularly drooling over Crobi boys, because they are my dream.~ Honestly, if I had a steady income, I think I wouldn't be able to control myself. XD
For me at this moment, I'm going with the "less is more" mindset and enjoying my one-doll home while I can. :P

    10. For me my 1/4th scale (i will not be getting an SD) resin family WILL stop expanding after my wishlist is complete. For me it's a matter of space and money. I like having space for my dolls to have little areas, and from the way i've measured my current available space i can fit my wanted dolls, and after that any new addition will be cramped into a new spot.
I suppose if i ever come into money and get a bigger place i'd consider expanding my collection past that.

For my smaller 1/6th scale dolls i will be squeezing in a few more, and then my doll buying will kinda stop and it'll be more on getting more things for the ones i have.

    11. I hate to tell you but I have been in hobby for 5 years now and I have bought and sold close to 400 dolls. Yeah I know how did that happen? Wish I knew. But I first sold all my other collectible dolls then I started buying the BJD. Then sold a couple bought another, then sold a couple and well you get the idea. I found it helped me really think first on what I wanted, then going to meet ups. Meet ups the bigger the better allows you to see dolls and ask questions. Once you see that doll or even that company is not for you it slows down your pace. I have decided I only love 2 companies. I have bought from one all 3 dolls I like that they make that one was easy. But the other is harder as I found I love lots of them. But as I try each face on each body I see what I really love and bond to that special doll. One doll has been with me for 4 years. He had that something and no matter what I will keep him. So I am slowing down. But if I had gone to more meet ups, asked more questions did more research I think I would have gone through a lot less. Also I am the type who can get stubborn. IP was a perfect example. I kept saying I could love these dolls but no matter who I bought or what color skin I picked it was always the same thing, to big. Went through 8 of these big ones alone before I learned my lesson.

    12. I am SUCH a newbie and SO naïve that I feel that I'll stop at three. I've bought three (well, 2 + 1 head that needs a body) and I feel quite, quite satisfied.

Oldbies, be kind and leave me this illusion for a while ;).

    13. I just got my first one, and I already am trying to get a second. xD

    14. You think it ends? Hee hee.

    15. my doll acquisitions end when i get the final 4 im missing...which wont be long now.

and i will not be getting any more - ever.
(I am proud to announce that im FINALLY content with what and who i have!)

    16. I think it depends on two things: novelty, and your love for dolls. For example, after two, almost three, years, doll novelty has ended with my impulse buy. Now, love for dolls, that one's harder. I find that the owners more into dolls will quite simply, desire more dolls. In comparison, after cycling through countless wishlists and websites, I've finally understood what I want out of the hobby, and will be ending up with one doll. And that's where my doll acquisition stage ends.

But for people who want characters to be born through resin, it's going to take a bit longer. I've seen people quite happy with less than five, while people are getting to 50 and show no signs of stopping. But if you have the resources, and make sure it doesn't get TOO out of hand, I say let yourself cycle through the motions. It'll definitely be quite an experience. ;)

    17. well, I didn't buy a bjd for 2 years and I told to myself "I'm done and content with what I have"

...today I bought a head =__= and now I need to get a body for him but I have many ideas for his character so I think that this will never have an end for me :P I'm still very young and I don't even have money to spend on things except for College....just imagine when I'm done with college, have my career with a good steady job? and by 50 I would probably still be buying dolls...lol

    18. I was hoping it would end. I was content with my lot... I thought... years ago. But then more and more BJDs were being made--ones I didn't have and wanted--totally new and different...

Now, I'm really wondering if it will ever end... *_*

although... I'm still having fun, even being doll-poor. :)

    19. Hmmm.....

Perhaps when I run out of room? I still have not been able to bring myself to sell any of the girls. I would imagine that would make new acquisitions easier, especially on the wallet! But once they are part of the family, they ARE family. This is what make new adoptions so mentally demanding and difficult. So now I find myself really taking my time and structuring the process of adding to my family. Impulse buys are a thing of the past.......

....... or that is what I would like to believe!

    20. neverrrrrrrrr

Well, that's just me though, haha! I have so many characters I want to doll, I may not finish before I die.
