1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When does it end, the doll acquisition stage?!

Jun 15, 2007

    1. Can't stop, won't stop???
; _; Only officially been in the hobby for about a year, i've got five kids so far(had six but i sold one) and three more on the way.

    2. I was the same until a few days ago when I complete a purchase for my first girl minifee shushu. Now I'm content. I have no desire for other resin that the moment!

I really don't know how someone can keep up with 4 dolls plus! Two is already too much for me! xD

    3. I don't think it will ever completely end... companies are constantly flooding us with new, beautiful sculpts and it seems that there is always something to want. In the beginning I felt a sense of urgency to obtain all of the sculpts I wanted because I was afraid of them being discontinued. Now, I don't feel as rushed to buy, and I am slowly becoming content with having some dolls completed and others not.

    4. When circumstances prevent me from buying more or I run out of room :P

    5. It's so hard not to keep buying.. ARG. Especially if you find great deals.. I found out about the hobby in March of 2011 and was like, dang those are expensive, I'm not buying one, i'm gonna make one. So I started to make one and got half finished. I felt like I needed to see a doll in person to understand the jointing better. So I bought a hujoo wings because they're rather cheap. Of course I grew attached to it right away. By this time, I put my doll WIP down and was just trying to study rather than create.

Then somehow I ended up with Hujoo Suve (the baby hujoo) after scanning junky spot. (I'm always scanning doll stores. It's terrible..) Then I impulse bought a puki pukisha from someone on another doll forum then after thanksgiving during black friday I bought a resin soul dian from junky spot and a Dollzone momo from denver doll because it was only $50.

AND now I'm buying a Impldoll Cyril from someone.. Geez. It hasn't even been a full YEAR since I've known about the hobby and i almost have 6 dolls already. Though, I technically already have 6 because I made a robot bjd for ceramics class and am almost fully complete with a tiny rabbit bjd I've been making.

    6. Being on these sites and seeing all the wonderful and different BJDs makes it difficult NOT to want all of them..

    7. seriously, I don't know when to stop..companies would just keep on releasing good dolls that would make you crave, and make you regret if you don't acquire one..hahah,,maybe I'll stop if I know that I had too much, or if I already acquire my grail dolls..but, who knows, I might still keep on collecting even acquiring my grail dolls..they are just too gorgeous to resist..:D

    8. Wait, wait, there is a hope for it one day stopping?

For me personally it will be when they begin to overwhelm me. I mean in that I canno longer give them the time and attention and sewing and playing effort due to there are too many.

And we are approaching that over here.
Now, when my time frees up more again.... oooh brother!

    9. For me to stop they should stop selling them <.< I've promised myself no more buying for at least 6 month but then suddendly JS opens Limhwa preorders and FL does an event. Doomed me -.-

    10. I go in buying cycles - they are infrequent, but each is pretty major. I got my first BJD in 2003, and within a year, 14 followed - buying cycle #1, fueled by discovery of the BJD world. Then, I stopped buying for 7 years. I simply wasn't interested in acquiring more dolls due to being busy and enjoying what I already have. Then, last year, I sold 5 dolls and bought 18 - buying cycle #2, fueled by a major sell-off of my fashion dolls that have been in storage ever since I discovered BJDs. I am still selling off my fashion doll collection, so I am sure that I'll be buying more BJDs this year. Next year, I predict, I will stop buying again for a while.

Overall, I don't think that the acquisition stage ever ends for most people. Companies are constantly coming out with new dolls and concepts, and eventually, something will be released that you never knew you wanted, but that you'd absolutely have to have. Example? Anthros and fantasy dolls. When I just entered the hobby, there were no anthros and no fantasy dolls from any of the major companies. Fast forward a few years, companies are starting to release these interesting, unique dolls, and all of a sudden, I want some! I am sure this will happen again as soon as a company steps in with something unique.

    11. I bought my first doll nearly two years ago and I am still acquiring. I'm not sure if I'll ever stop even though the time between purchases has increased.

    12. When I get every single of the dolls on my wish list, including limited dolls long sold out in all the options I like, including skin tone, mobility joint, face up, bust size and hair. And then I'll concentrate on playing with them. Of cos, I don't expect it to come to a complete halt, but rather, slow down. If iplehouse ever release a beautiful doll that I love, I will get him/her. But I don't expect it to happen often. Hopefully.

    13. I don't think it's ever going to end for me! As long as there are beautiful dolls being released I'm bound to want one. However I think I've reached a slowdown...I bought a LOT of dolls in my first year of collecting, and now I want to take the time to get stuff for them. I'd be fooling myself though if I said I weren't going to buy any more dolls. I'm already eyeing IH Isar!

    14. It does! I think as long as you know what you want and aren't making purchases based off the same Type of doll.
I've just bought a doll that seemed to say "Alright. You can stop now. You've got everything you wanted."
I'm even second guessing some dolls on my wishlist that I wanted! Except for one. She is last doll and the bodies I need for floating heads. Everyone else is kinda.... Meh. It's Really weird and strange but kinda awesome. I have my giant crew and now I get to play with them forever and ever and ever! XD

    15. I don't think it'll stop until I get sick of dolls. :( Haha.
I'll just end up selling old dolls and get new ones. I'm never satisfied with my collection.

    16. Four years on, it still hasn't ended XD Dolls come and go in my collection but I never stop acquiring replacements for the ones I sell or lusting after new ones. Right now I have three and that seems like enough... But I can't say that won't change :P

    17. Popping in again to say that, a few months after I wrote here that I was perfectly happy with my three, I have four, plus one incoming, plus two more planned in the course of the year -_-.

So, um, I no longer know when it ends. :sweat

    18. Well, I'm not able to buy anymore at the moment.. I got my hands on a credit card and silly me bought two dolls with it. So now I'm kinda in debt but I love them. After a while I think the buying does come to an end when you can't afford. But I do plan on buying more when I pay my card off.

    19. Does it end? I suppose it could, when you run out of space or funding... But then, I'm a big believer in 'there is always room for more', so perhaps not.

As long as companies continue to produce new resin beauties, there will always be that temptation for just one more. ^^

    20. Short Answer:
As long as they keep making them, I'm continue to covet them.

I have a list 11 dolls long and that only includes dolls I have characters for. The year is only three months in and I already have a head on the way and waiting until my next paycheck so I can afford my first 1/6. Even if I one day stop buying new dolls which I have no doubt will someday come, I'll still be getting new outfits and accessories, at the very least a faceup redo once every few years. I'll probaley eventually start playing a game of musical dolls, where I keep selling old dolls and buying new ones.
Will I ever stop wanting new dolls? Of course not.
Will I ever stop buying new dolls? Probaley, but not anytime soon.
