1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

When does it end, the doll acquisition stage?!

Jun 15, 2007

    1. >.< I have seven dolls. I have the impulse to buy another one practically every day. I fear I like recieving dolls almost more than doing anything with the ones I have and that's a bad, bad impulse. I think I'm going to have to make a rule for myself that I don't get any more new dolls until winter unless I get one in Japan or at Resin Con.

    2. If you want it to stop, I think you just have to back away. Don't click on certain threads, don't frequently visit the stores where you know temptation is high (and if you do, be very careful). If you DO fall for something, give yourself awhile to calm down and think things over. I only plan on a few more dolls, and I'm doing very well at sticking to that.

    3. Just about a year ago, I bought my first. I now have three 1/3, a 1/4, three tinies, and more than 10 heads.

The reason I've accumulated so quickly is because almost all of my heads are limited to a time period, and I always feel that whilst I'm spending more now, in the long run I'm saving because I won't have to pay 2nd hand-market prices... I have standard release dolls that have been on my wishlist since my first doll, but the limiteds obviously have more of a time constraint.

I'm seriously hoping it'll slow down soon though, because I never intended to have so many dolls x_x That, and my years of allowance/holiday job savings (due to having nothing much to spend on, that I thought was worth it) are almost gone. Also, I need to find bodies for all my poor heads >.<

    4. hehehehe :D
      :raises hand:

      im keeping myself away from dolls until christmas...then im gonna slurge on one i think XD;;

    5. I've only recently ordered my first doll, but I've already told myself that I can't have more than five at one time. If I have five dolls and I want to buy a new doll, I will have to part with one of my old ones. I've also decided that I can only purchase dolls six months apart so I will have time to save up some money and won't have to dip into my savings....

Of course, I've TOLD myself this, but my boy isn't even home yet, and I'm already thinking about getting him a girlfriend! XD

    6. I also had that problem for a long time. One of the things that helped me keep my urge to buy under control was to plan out what characters I wanted dolls for. (I guess that's only really effective if you tend to give them names and personalities beforehand) But now any time I see a mold I really like, I ask myself if it works for any character I want a doll of, and if not then I content myself with browsing the gallery for pictures.

    7. Well, I'm really good with self-constraint. I've seen countless molds that I just LOVE, but I've taken into consideration a lot of factors and have managed to shorten the list down to four. Unfortunately, there are still many others that I would jump on if given a good price. I just have to... Stay away from the marketplace. And my list keeps changing like every day. I just keep telling myself that three is the max amount of dolls I'll ever end up with, so it really helps me keep my lists to what I REALLY want as my interests and decisions keep changing. *_* Oy, three vs. four... I STILL haven't decided between two molds. :...(

    8. I just spend my money elsewhere (like on other kinds of dolls, oh yes, must have those!). Otherwise, no, a collector's bug never dies.

      Sera~

    9. I'm glad I can just kind of stare happily at other people's dolls. I love running through the marketplace and seeing what people have up, but I don't really feel the need to buy another sculpt at the moment. I just enjoy the hunt. When I first started looking, I wanted three by the end of the first year, but once I actually found one I really liked, I just stopped wanting. It was kind of strange, really.

    10. I got 2 dolls 2 weeks.
      It's been a month.
      I ordered a Baha yesterday.
      eek............

And a Mallory head from Kaye, plus an sd10 bod......
      Oh, dear.......

    11. Death. You're doomed to buy til Death takes you away in his shiny Corvette.

    12. Um... no. :sweat

Basically, no. Nope. Uh-uh. There is no end. it's... terrible.

In all seriousness, if I follow my usual pattern with such things I'll finally slow down in 6-7 years. It's been only about 1 now.

Toooo many! but I just love them. There are a couple that I'm a little less certain of, and I am a terrible pushover for a rescue mission, but... Just love this crew.

    13. It never ends. It may slow down or change focus but, nope, from my experience, you're stuck with it for life. I've been collecting various dolls for 20 years & have been the worst ever with the BJDs. But even with selling off vast amounts of my other dolls, I'm out of room & have been forced to become very selective in what I buy. Yet there's still always one more out there calling my name.

    14. For me, the desire to acquire has lessened only slightly. I am, perhaps, a little more selective in who I buy, but I love these dolls so much that I still want more. It does not help that new, wonderful dolls keep being released.

    15. I never thought it would end, but after I received my last doll, something just...stopped. I don't know what exactly it was, but something turned off, and I just didn't feel like even seriously looking at any other dolls. I don't want to get rid of any of my dolls - I adore them - but I don't really want to acquire any more, either.

I have seen a lot of lovely dolls since then, but I just don't have the desire to get them - I can admire them in other people's homes or through pictures. I'm not kidding myself that I'll never buy another doll, but I think it's going to have to be a very special doll to reach over this and make me buy.

      Marcia.

    16. I'm exactly like Marcia...we must be some sort of odd sub-sect of collectors.:) I love the discovery, the research, the hunt, the acquisition...and then suddenly my collection all seems to suddenly come together with perfect cohesion and I'm just done. From that point on, I'm just thoroughly in love with what I have and enjoy it everyday. And like Marcia, it would take a very special doll indeed to overcome that grand feeling of "completion." I have several collections in my home and every one has stopped like this. It's actually a blessing, because while my pocketbook may be strained to the breaking point at times, I always know it will go back to normal one day. Lucky me!:D

    17. Other than avoiding doll marketplace...maybe think to yourself, 'If you dont buy that fifth or sixth doll, you can buy some shiney outfits and eyes for the doll family you have now.'

    18. Like others have said, the only way for me to do it is to avoid the marketplace, because I am a sucker for a doll that is already 'customised'. To me it feels like it already has a personality in place, and since my imagination is beyond over-active, it takes roughly 30 seconds for a personality to appear. *sighs*

Howwwvveerrrrrrr. I feel I am getting close to satisfaction. Kinda. *shifty look* The only real wants on my list for the future are St Mina (sad version) and a Saint.

    19. I suspect I will stop after five dolls. Mostly because I'm very specific/picky about what they'll look like and it's going to take a lot of internet searching and waiting to find everything I need for them. :sweat But who knows? I just got into BJD, I may only stop once I run out of money.

    20. I'm not sure whether I want it to to end actually because part of the doll hobby, to me, is looking out for new dolls, angsting over them and then acquiring them eventually, lol. On the other hand, it's definitely not a good thing for my wallet at all. :sigh

I think I'm quite the opposite from some of the people who've given their responses, though... I bought my first doll in 2004, and it was nearly a year before I got my second doll and I hit a plateau thingy with six dolls after my Lucas arrived in August last year (I ordered him from the AE end of May). It was all well spread out until May this year. I suddenly had four dolly additions all in a month. :doh (I blame Dolpa!) And am suddenly feeling the rush to get a few others. I don't know what happened -- I thought I had good discipline all this while. :o LOL

I definitely agree with the rush with LE dolls though... that would also be mostly why I had to (oh yes, I was forced :sneaky) buy certain dolls as soon as they were released... (oh, the excuses...)
